    Urgent Question

I am Amritdhari for a week or so. I am learning Gurmukhi and I can read Gurmukhi at a slow and okay pace. Is it bad if I do my nitnem in gurmukhi english. Is there a less benefit doing it in gurmukhi english. I am very anxious to know. As sometimes when I do my nitnem I do it right with the pronunciation but I thought to myself as long as I am saying the word right it is the same benefit. Any answers or advice. I will be taking santhiya later on but I was wondering is there a difference?

    Meaning Of Ehran/ Eran

Does the word Ehran/ Eran come in gurbani? If so, what is the meaning please? Thank you
  7. Fateh Question and Clarification sought: At various points, I have heard that certain bani should be read multiple times; e.g some ppl state that they do 5 japji sahib path, or x number of chupai sahib paths and so on.... It is good if you can read this much bani; however my question is 2 fold: For e.g it says at the end of chaupai sahib - "Ho Jo Ja Ki EIK bar Chaupai Ko Kahe" Just one if you read this...... so why do we read it so many times; or are advised to do so. Where does this comes from Second Part: With the same theme; how come no one says read Rehras sahib x number of times; or read Kirtan Sohila x number of times. At least I have never heard this. Just want to get your views, and thoughts; appreciate if we could avoid criticism of any sort in this thread. Thanks Fateh....
  8. WJKK WJKF How should papers that have baani written on them be disposed if no longer needed (for example flyers, advertisements, etc). Is it fine just to recycle them? Or should something else be done? And what should be done with papers that have hand written baani that kids used for practicing gurmukhi? Thanks in advance. WJKK WJKF

  13. I came across a link for Read Along Gurbani Tutor. Supposedly, it goes through word by word of the SGGS text, highlighting the word, reads the word aloud, and moves to the next word. It's meant to help people who are unable to read SGGS to understand how to pronounce the text. Unfortunately, I am unable to get the link to post in this textbox, but it's at www.ektuhi.com, and then click the third option from the left in the top links bar. It should show an embedded YouTube video of the Gurbani Tutor and a button to download it. I haven't downloaded it yet, does anyone know if it's safe to download on PC? If anyone has used it, did you find it helpful? Thanks
  14. WJKK WJKF I recently learned that when reading gurbani every letter/symbol must be pronounced exactly the way it's written (no exceptions). But why do people say that the onkar/sihari on the last letter of each word shouldn't be pronounced? http://www.gursevak.com/readsggs .. In this audio file everything is pronounced, so is this correct? WJKK WJKF
  15. To me there is no difference , yes I don't do chavar or prakash/sukhasan of my laptop but I try to read as much as I can along with translations - but in the end its the same Shabad guru - physical saroop or pdf , IMHO key is to incorporate the lessons in our day to day life - taki " halat palat mukh ujjal hoye " - we are saved in this life and hereafter. 18. Why are discussions that look at Gurbani deeper being closed? Two discussions on looking at Gurbani shabads have been closed in a matter of days. http://www.sikhsangat.com/index.php?/topic/73210-tesiya-dancing-before-sri-guru-granth-sahib-ji/ http://www.sikhsangat.com/index.php?/topic/73167-nanaksar-worshipping-photos/
  19. I have seen/heard/read many people say that religion was created by man, that all holy scriptures are manmade. These people, whether desi or angrej, their level and parameter of spirituality is, I am extremely sorry to say, neutron sized. Lets not forget that all scriptures of the major world religions were penned down much after their original orators had left this world. Only Sahib Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee was given Gurta Gaddee by Dasmesh Pita Ji Himself. Secondly, other scriptures may have stories, laws, philosophies, or whatever, but Gurbani is written in turia avastha, the 4th and highest spiritual stage which mere mortals cannot comprehend. Its like asking a 3rd grade student to study college level atomic physics of master's degree. Thirdly, Gurbani is priceless because the truth contained in Gurbani was maintained at the cost of life. Sahib Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji Maharaj refused to change "musalmaan" to "beimaan". Guru Sahib refused to add any praises for any avtar/prophet/messenger in there. His Shaheedi is witness to the fact that Gurbani was/is/will always be priceless, was/is/will always be unchanged/unchangeable. Gurbani is not a set of stories or laws or philosophies. Its the divine words uttered by spiritually uplifted souls whose soul-consciousness was at the highest peak of spirituality. These divine words were so true that none of them hesitated to sacrifice their life for it. This makes Gurbani the undisputed word of Akal Purakh Vaheguru! Mehtab Singh Nov. 7th 2013

  23. Wrong Gurbani translations and ignorance are being used by several Dawah and Christian Missionary organisations. Even if not, it is our duty to understand GurShabad correctly, so lets use this thread to correct (wrong) prevalent Shabads. 141, Guru Granth Sahib Ji Wrong translation: Where is anything like 'religion of the Prophet' 'faith of Mohammad' mentioned in the original Gurbani? Actual translation (taken from SearchSikhism): It is difficult to be called a Muslim; if one can become a true Muslim (by surrendering completely to the Will of Waheguru), only then he may be called one. First requirement to become a true Muslim is to love the Dharam (religion) i.e. truth. Then cleanse the mind by sharing the wealth with poor and needy. This way false pride of possessions of worldly wealth goes away. Secondly, if the Gurbani tells one to become a true Muslim then why doesn't it say to recite Kalimah, the Quran, Namaz, go on Hajj, etc ? Muslim word is being redefined just like Jati ceases being celibacy when used in Gurbani context. Please post more Shabads and try to correct them.
