  10. Core teachings of Sri Guru Nanak which we must live by , this is the right way to commemorate 550th birthday of guru sahib. All of the lines below are from the bani of Sri guru granth sahib First and foremost is this human life is extremely precious and we might never get it again. ਇਹੁ ਮਾਣਕੁ ਜੀਉ ਨਿਰਮੋਲੁ ਹੈ ਇਉ ਕਉਡੀ ਬਦਲੈ ਜਾਇ ॥੩॥ Eihu Maanak Jeeo Niramol Hai Eio Kouddee Badhalai Jaae ||3|| This jewel of the soul is priceless, and yet it is being squandered like this, in exchange for a mere shell. ||3|| We must start our day
  11. Good video on Guru jis meeting with kalyug. Kalyug personified itself and appeared before Guru ji naked symbolizing how people will be shameless and half naked in this age, he was also holding his tongue showing how people will be materialistic and holding his private parts symbolizing how people will be blinded by kaam, all of which is very true. Very important sakhi which isnt talked about that much. I'd imagine that some people will question this sakhi but disbelief is also a trait of kalyug

  14. What is gurmat - if we want to find the essence of this great philosophy , we should understand the message that guru nanak set out to preach in his udasis. He did not call for a certain look (hair ) or any rituals (like akhand path , chavar) , instead his message was simple - to merge with God we must develop the qualities of god i.e one must become nirbhao, nirvair, niralam (detached) Vin gun keete bhagat na hoi. Also he did not start a 'religion' and never advised anyone to convert from one organized religion to another. His message was universal and simple -to jogis, hind

  16. Its well known that alot of muslims believe Guru Nanak was a Muslim. The arguement they give is that Guru Ji travelled to mecca and so must have been a muslim. ie no non muslims are allowed in Mecca. So how and why did Guru Nanak go there if no non Muslims is allowed there. There is only one way . if Guru pretended that he was a muslim to enter. Also the story is was accompanied on this journey by Bhai Mardana who was a muslim who wanted to do the hajj pilgrimage and so Guru nanak accompanied him there.
  17. In the year 1510 AD, Taajudin Naqshbandi, a Persian/Arabic writer met Guru Nanak Dev ji during his journey through the Middle East. For the next two years, Taajudin lived with the Guru and kept a detailed eyewitness account in a manuscript titled Siyahto Baba Nanak Fakir. After taking a leave from Guru ji, Taajudin deposited the manuscript in a library in Medina. In the year 1927, Mushtaq Hussein a young man from Kashmir, while studying as a moulvi in Medina came across Taajudin's manuscript. The manuscript changed Mushtaq's life, and he converted to Sikhism and and went on to bec

  19. Guru nanak was stuanchly against pictures / idols but irony is today we have pictures of guru nanak created purely through imagination and people standing before them with folded hands - babaji solve my this problem or that , His core message was never ask for anything matereliastic and live through good and bad times with equanimity , if anything hard times are what get us closer to waheguru (dukh daroo sukh rog bhaya , ja sukh taam na hoye) Nanak bolan jhakn
  20. WJKK WJKF I was reading some gurbani quotes on feminism etc and one quote stuck out: jit jameh raajaan Guru Nanak empowered women by saying "from her kings are born" and previously within this Bhangti Maharaj empowers women through the experience of men, noting that when a man's wife dies he seeks another woman so he is bound to woman. During the times of Guru Nanak these words were revolutionary... but now is it not fair to say that empowering woman through powerful men is somewhat outdated? And therefore should we read GGSJ in the context of when it was written. Bhu
