Last Updated at October 11, 2022 09:14 IST Preet Kaur Gill, an Indian-origin British Sikh MP, in a letter to Home Secretary Suella Braverman, has sought protection and urgent action against rising crimes against the community in the UK. Quoting hate crime statistics 2021-22, Gill, an MP from Birmingham, said hate crimes against Sikhs rose by 169 per cent in comparison to a 38 per cent increase in reported religious hate crimes overall. "I am deeply concerned by these new statistics. 301 hate crimes against Sikhs were reported in 2021-22, up from 112 in 2020-21. The 169 per cent increase is compared to a 38 per cent increase in reported religious hate crimes overall", Gill said in the letter, which she released on Twitter on Monday. The 2001 census recorded 336,000 Sikhs living in Britain. Gill said 301 hate crimes against Sikhs were reported in 2021-22, up from 112 in 2020-2021. The letter, which was also addressed to Simon Clarke, secretary of the department for levelling up, housing and communities (DLUHC), comes as 28 year-old Claudio Capos from Manchester was awarded a three year jail term recently for attacking 62-year-old Avtar Singh in broad daylight this June. Singh had suffered a severe traumatic brain injury, a stroke caused by bleeding on the brain and multiple fractures to his cheek, jaw and eye socket as a result of the attack, the BBC reported. Gill, in her letter, urged Braverman to implement the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) report on British Sikhs, which was published in 2020. The report found that the lack of an official term was a contributing factor as to why crimes against Sikhs go largely "unnoticed, unreported and unrecorded". This report, Gill said, was shared with both the home secretary and communities secretary at the time and was an attempt to consult the government on the definition of Anti-Sikh hate. "However, despite multiple promises of substantive response and offers of a meeting, the home office and DLUHC, between them, have failed to respond," she added.
  2. https://www.opindia.com/2022/07/rajasthan-muslim-youths-in-alwar-thrash-a-sikh-man-chop-off-his-hair/ Hate crime in Rajasthan: Tensions prevail in Alwar as a group of Muslim youths thrash a Sikh man, chop off his hair Upon learning that the victim was a Sikh, the miscreants decided against killing him and instead cut off his keshas (unshorn hair), which is prohibited under Sikhism. The miscreants then fled leaving Gurbaksh Singh in an injured state. Tensions simmered in Milkapur village in Alwar, Rajasthan, after 4-5 Muslim youths allegedly harassed and assaulted one Gurbaksh Singh, a former granthi of a Gurudwara located in the area. The miscreants reportedly accosted the victim, beat him up, threw red chilli powder in his eyes, and chopped his hair, something Sikhism prohibits its followers from doing. Several members of the Sikh community came to the streets and staged a dharna outside the Alwar PS in Rajasthan to protest against the harassment meted out at Gurbaksh Singh on the night of Thursday, July 21. In a video that has gone viral on social media, the victim, Gurbaksh Singh narrated what transpired with him on the night of July 21. He alleged that around 9 pm on Thursday, he was on his way from his home in Milakpur to Alavada to buy medicines when he was allegedly waylaid by the miscreants. The youths asked him to stop his bike and park it on one corner of the road. They then dragged Gurbaksh Singh to a deserted corner and threw red chilli powder in his eyes. Gurbaksh Singh further recalled that the miscreants pinned him down, put a knife on his neck and were about to kill him but suddenly stopped and confirmed his name. The petrified Gurbaksh Singh introduced himself and told them that he was the former Granthi of a Gurudwara in Milakpur. Upon learning that the victim was a Sikh, the miscreants decided against killing him and called one of the man named ”Jumma”, who asked them to instead cut off his keshas (unshorn hair), which is prohibited under Sikhism. The miscreants then fled leaving Gurbaksh Singh in an injured state. Around 15 minutes later, when Gurbakh Singh regained consciousness and got a hold of himself, he narrated the ordeal to some locals who took him to the community health centre for treatment. The villagers reported the incident to the local police station. After getting the information, Alwar Superintendent of Police Tejaswini Gautam, Additional SP Sarita Singh, ADM Akhilesh Peepal, Shivaji Park Police Station incharge Ramniwas Meena and Ramgarh Police Station incharge Surendra Kumar reached the community health centre to meet Gurbaksh Singh. The victim gave the police all the details of the incident. The police, in turn, assured to launch an investigation in the matter. The enraged villagers, meanwhile, gheraoed the police station and demanded an expeditious investigation into the incident. They demanded that the miscreants who had fled the scene of the crime after the incident, be apprehended quickly and dealt with strictly. This incident comes on the heels of the recent brutal beheading of a Hindu tailor Kanhaiya Lal in Udaipur, Rajasthan by two Islamists Mohammad Riyaz and Ghouse Mohammad for supporting Nupur Sharma on social media. Following the murder of Hindu tailor Kanhaiya Lal in Udaipur on June 28, his killers Mohammed Riyaz Akhtar and Mohammed Gos escaped the scene on a bike with number 2611. 26-11 is the date of the Mumbai Terror Attack. The killers were nabbed by the Police 130 KM away from Udaipur at Bhim Highway. This case is being investigated by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
  3. Mostly whole world recently saw how BLM founders bankrolled by their misteps representation of being the voice of African Americans. They were laughing all the way back to their banks. A day ago, NY mayor called out on BLM for doing nothing to help the plight of crimes nor they using their platform to bring any change to their community. Racism is in every community; however spike of anti-Asian and anti-Sikh hate attacks are also on rise and sadly it’s the other minority (African American)being the criminal party on attacks against three elder NY based Sikh. Point of this thread is that our organization or representatives are not calling as what it is. No major personality of African American community spoke out so far against these attacks. Chilling footage captured by onlookers in Washington, DC shows the final moments before an UberEats driver was killed in a carjacking by two teenage girls. The man, identified as Mohammad Anwar, died in hospital after his car hurtled into a parked vehicle during the struggle, ejecting him onto the footpath. The 13-year-old and 15-year-old allegedly used a stun gun on the driver, who was in the street making a food delivery on Tuesday, before attempting to steal his car with him still in it, crashing the vehicle and killing him, according to the Metropolitan Police Department and witness accounts. The unidentified girls have since been charged with murder, Kiro7 reports. Then I saw the car, and I thought, ‘This must be a movie scene or something’,” DC resident Pamela Johnson told the NBC publication. The girls were pulled from the wreckage by National Guard service members. Mohammad Anwar, 66, of Springfield, Virginia, was identified by his family on Wednesday. According to his family, Mr Anwar was a Pakistani immigrant, who left behind a wife, three adult children and four grandchildren. “He was a hardworking immigrant who came to the US in 2014 to build a better life for himself and his family,” the family said in a statement. “The loss for his family is immeasurable.” Metropolitan Police Department said the 13-year-old from Southeast DC and a 15-year-old from Fort Washington, Maryland are facing felony murder and carjacking charges. The two girls have not been named because of their age. Meanwhile, Anwar’s family has set up a GoFundMe page to pay for atraditional Islamic funeral and to help Anwar’s widow with finances, as the slain delivery driver was the primary breadwinner. “He was simply at work yesterday evening, providing for his family, when his life was tragically taken in an appalling act of violence,” the page stated. “Anwar was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend who always provided a smile when you needed one. He leaves behind a family, near and far, who cherish, love and miss him dearly.” So far the family has raised more than $USD205,000. https://www.news.com.au/world/north-america/ubereats-drivers-murder-by-carjacking-teenagers-captured-by-shocked-bystanders/news-story/b2f45ee5f714f37d52f78b6fe63e584f I don't know, about this I find it disgusting. 5. The biggest preparators of Sikhphobic hate crime and attacks offline and online have been muslim fascists and far right wing racist white nationalists. Yet Sikhs have been extremely slow recognising this fact and speaking out against it. Even the term "sikhphobia/sikhphobic" is relatively new and should have been used ages ago when muslims started to come out with islamophobia, homosexuals with homophobia and jews with antisemitism.

Two Sikh Americans killed in U.S. Press Trust of India Washington, July 30, 2017 00:00 IST Updated: July 30, 2017 03:37 IST Two Sikh Americans have been killed in separate incidents in California, according to community organisations and media reports. Subag Singh, 68, was found dead in a canal after he went missing in the morning of June 23. His body had injuries. California law enforcement officials from Fresno county have said that they were trying to find out who was responsible for the killing of the elderly Sikh American. “Deputies found his body with visible trauma in a canal on McCall and Jensen. Investigators are trying to piece together what led up to the body being found in a canal,” Fox26 news said in a report. Hate crime probe Deputies are not saying if this was a hate crime or not, but members of the Sikh community say this would not be the first, it said. “Honestly, we are very hurt, it just hurts us. And it just we then, think what else do we need to do,” Gurdeep Shergill, a local community leader, was quoted as saying. In a separate incident, Simranjit Singh, 20, of Elk Grove was shot dead on July 25 outside a gas station where he worked. He was shot dead reportedly by men who had earlier assaulted his co-worker. “At this point in both investigations, it is unclear if either of these crimes were racially motivated but we are working with both local and federal laws enforcement authorities to ensure these murders are thoroughly investigated and that the local jurisdictions are treating the cases with the utmost importance,” said Sikh American Legal Defence and Education Fund. There have been a number of attacks targeting Indian-Americans and Sikhs in the recent months.

Sikh Professor Who Wrote About Hate Crimes Gets Attacked by Teens The victim said the group of teens shouted "Get Osama" before punching and kicking him http://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/local/Sikh-Columbia-Professor-Attacked-Beaten-Possible-Hate-Crime-Harlem-224809352.html A Columbia professor who wrote a New York Times op-ed last year about hate crimes against American Sikhs was attacked by a group of teens over the weekend, law enforcement officials tell NBC 4 New York. Prabhjot Singh, a Sikh and an assistant professor at Columbia's School of International and Public Affairs, said he was walking on 110th Street and Lenox Avenue at around 8 p.m. Saturday when he was confronted by more than a dozen teens on bicycles who shouted slurs before attacking him. "I heard 'Get Osama' and then 'terrorists,' and then the next thing I felt was someone moving past me, ripping at my beard and then hitting me in the chin," Singh told NBC 4 New York. Singh said he started running and was punched in the face and in his sides. His attackers continued to kick and punch him after he fell to the ground, he said. Singh was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital Saturday and had surgery on his jaw, which was fractured. Singh believes he could have died if passersby hadn't helped get the teens off him. "There's no doubt in my mind it was a bias-related event," he said. The attack, he says, makes him worry that his 1-year-old son, "who will certainly resemble a Sikh man," will face similar hatred as he gets older. "My fear is that they'll disappear into the neighborhood," he said of the assailants, adding that he hopes the community mobilizes to prevent similar attacks
  11. http://www.voanews.com/content/sikhs-hate-crime-us/1672693.html http://www.voanews.com/media/video/1673151.html Jerome Socolovsky May 31, 2013 WASHINGTON —One night several years ago, Amandeep Singh Sidhu, a Washington lawyer who wears a turban, went to a blues club with his wife and a few friends, expecting to have an enjoyable and relaxing evening listening to music. "All of the sudden I felt someone grab the front of my turban from behind and start to pull it off of my head," he recalls. He describes the assailant as a white male, a recent college graduate from a privileged background, who had been drinking. Wearing the turban is a key part of Sikh identity, but Sidhu says that when he swatted the man's arm away, suspicions first fell on him. "It was interesting because I think the initial reaction of members of the audience and the crowd was that perhaps I had assaulted this individual." But, he says, a policeman nearby understood what had happened and apprehended the man on suspicion of committing a hate crime. Sikhs may be the world's fifth largest religion, but they are a tiny minority in America, numbering about half a million. Yet they have been disproportionately targeted since the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, largely because of their distinctive turbans and beards. On August 6, 2012, six Sikhs were gunned down while worshipping at a temple in Oak Creek, Wisconsin, a suburb of Milwaukee. More than a hundred congressmen and an array of Sikh and non-Sikh advocacy groups have asked the FBI to include categories for Sikhs as well as Hindus and Arabs on its "Hate Crime Incident Report." The report is filed by more than 14,500 police departments across the country. It already has boxes for attacks that target Jews, Catholics, Protestants and Muslims. The FBI is expected to make a decision when its Advisory Policy Board meets on June 5-6 in Portsmouth, Virginia. Sidhu works at a Washington law firm and was one of the founders of the Sikh Coalition, a legal rights group. While many of the attacks against Sikhs are by people who mistake them for Muslims, Sidhu says "there's certainly an association of the turban with terrorism." He says nearly all men who wear turbans in the U.S. are Sikhs. "And so to ignore that reality, and not have some meaningful metrics, tracked by the FBI, tracked by local law enforcement, accounted for in the Department of Justice in terms of their reporting, and their diversion of resources, is just - it's unacceptable," Sidhu says. Michael Lieberman of the Anti-Defamation League, one of the groups urging the FBI to add the new categories, says bias against Sikhs is rooted in perceived mystery. "I think there is confusion over who are these people that are wearing turbans and beards, and they look different," he says, "and that unfortunately has been enough for some individuals to say: 'You look like Osama bin Laden.'" Lieberman says the gunman in the Oak Creek massacre had actually gone to the Sikh temple, or gurdwara, previously and even accepted a free meal there. "The individual who went that day in August went to kill Sikhs in their gurdwara. I don't think there's any doubt about that," he says. The ADL lawyer says while his organization was founded to fight prejudice against Jews, other groups should be counted, too. "It's not just about the numbers," he adds. "To even raise the possibility of having Sikhs, Hindus and Arabs will mean that a law enforcement official that is filling out this form will have to be trained" in awareness of what it means to belong to one of these groups, and what makes them stand out. Attorney General Eric Holder recently endorsed the new categories, increasing the likelihood the FBI will adopt them. As for Sidhu, he dropped charges after the assailant agreed to perform 100 hours of community service for the Sikh Coalition. He says he didn't want to him to end up with a conviction on his record just because he "did something stupid."

Ashley Cicatello, 25, had spent the afternoon drinking beer and Jagerbomb shots when he spotted the victim in a Sainsbury's supermarket on December 27, last year. Cicatello, from Dunkirk, Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire, told his friends: 'Get this on record. This is going on YouTube' before running up behind the victim and yanking the turban off his head. The prank caused the victim to be ostracised from his own community, it was claimed. Cicatello sprinted off with the turban and was chased through the store before being wrestled to the ground by security guards. He later admitted to police that he had 'been an absolute prat' and had done it because he wanted to be the 'class clown.' Magistrates were told the Sikh father-of-two has since transferred stores after being being too ashamed to return to work. North Staffordshire Justice Centre heard the victim - who cannot be named for legal reasons after a judge ruled that the shame of the incident had led to him being ostracised from his community - had faced the most 'gratuitous degradation.' Cicatello was convicted of religiously aggravated assault following a trial on Monday. More... Ex-boyfriend 'framed love rival by making hoax phone calls claiming he was planning to blow up IKEA' Drunk thief stole primary school children's pet chicken then posed for pictures with it before posting them on Facebook He had admitted assault but denied it was religiously motivated. Carol Brown, chairman of the bench, said: 'Mr Cicatello caused gratuitous degradation of the victim which has resulted in an ongoing effect on the injured party. 'This was a person working in the public sector in a public place. North Staffordshire Justice Centre heard the victim - who cannot be named for legal reasons after a judge ruled that the shame of the incident had led to him being ostracised from his community - had faced the most 'gratuitous degradation' 'It's our belief that the defendant demonstrated hostility to the person who wore the turban, and therefore we find him guilty.' Sikh men are not permitted to cut their hair and must keep their heads covered. Normally turbans are only removed in the most intimate of circumstances, when bathing the head, or washing the hair. The victim told the court the incident had devastating consequences for him. Cicatello (believed to be pictured here on a night out) then sprinted off with it and was chased through the store before being wrestled to the ground by security guards Giving evidence he said: 'Taking a turban off a Sikh guy in public is just like hanging him in public. 'After this I was not able to face my colleagues. 'If this happened in India a man would never go to this place again, it is that disgraceful. 'My self-esteem and confidence - everything has been shattered because of this incident.' The court heard Cicatello had gone to the store at 5pm to buy beer with three friends. He had drunk 'four or five pints' and four Jagerbombs - a mixture of spirit Jagermeister and Red Bull. He told the court: 'I got dared to take the turban off his head. It was nothing to do with his religion or the colour of his skin. 'It was just being stupid. I just did it because I wanted to be the class clown.' He told magistrates he ran off with the turban because he 'panicked' when he saw the anger on the victim's face. Nicola Bell, defending, said he was in full-time work and had not been before the courts for five years. She said: 'He is mortified by his actions. He has given a formal apology to the injured party.' Magistrates heard Cicatello's pals had filmed the attack on a mobile phone but the footage was deleted and never uploaded to the internet. Sentence was adjourned to allow for reports to be prepared. He was bailed to appear before the same court on March 18. 14. Washington, Feb 26, 2013, PTI: In an apparent hate crime incident in the US, a Sikh man was shot at several times by truck-borne unidentified gunmen in Florida. Kanwaljit Singh, 46, was attacked by the truck-borne assailants near Daytona Beach on Saturday night. He was later admitted to a hospital where he is undergoing treatment. Kanwaljit, who was accompanied by his son, received multiple bullet injuries in his thigh and torso, officials said. His son managed to escape unhurt. Although no clear motive (behind the attack) has been established, initial indications are this shooting was not a random act. There was no previous confrontation between occupants of either vehicle, Wayne Miller, Port Oranges Assistant Chief of Police, was quoted as saying by local daily Daytona Beach News Journal. Meanwhile, the authorities yesterday said that the incident will be probed by the agencies as a hate crime. Condemning the act, the Sikh American Legal Defence and Education Fund and Sikh Coalition called on the law enforcement officials and requested them to conduct a thorough probe into the incident. The shooting incident comes days after US lawmakers asked the Department of Justice and the FBI to track the hate crimes committed against Sikhs, Hindus and Arab Americans. So far more than 40 Congressmen have signed onto the letter addressed to the Department of Justice and the FBI, with lawmakers Judy Chu, Eliot Engel, Bill Pascrell, Adam Schiff, Gary Peters, Tulsi Gabbard, Ami Bera, Michael Honda, and Eric Swalwell being the original signatories. http://www.deccanherald.com/content/315150/sikh-shot-dead-us-suspected.html

He kept on going on about Sikhs believeing in caste when he was given a refutation now hes started on why the panj piares castes are recorded in Sikhi and so on. Hes also made rude pictures of Sant Bhindranwale and the whole page is a hub to abuse Sikhi. Why are we tolerating this? When a page was made to answer the admin facebook deleted that page after a few months but this page just continues no matter how much it is reported. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Sikh-Facts/430360146974630
