Was listening to Sant Ji's katha on youtube. Sant ji stated apart from the traditional raags, there is nothing wrong if Kirtan is sung in other NON - Raags set up by our Guru Ji's. His example: Think of poison in a bowl. Drinking the poison then blaming the bowl is silly. The poison is bad not the bowl. Likewise, we will never call a bowl Amrit once it contains Amrit init. Sameway it's not the raags being good / bad... it's WHAT we put into those raags. How many times Kirtan was sung but on a track of sum Bollywood tune? It is happening in Gurudwara by Raagis! Youtube also has Kaweshri jatha singing history of 1984, on Dr Dre's - Still Dre track. Rap instrumental/ Bolly tunes stand neutral. We can either put bad things and sing with our own remixes and lyrics... or we can recreate to sing Shabads of Gurbabi, kirtan and Sikh Prachaar over them.

I have moved out to my own place and like to invite friends around and do kirtan (akj style so lots of loud tabla). Semi detached property and neighbours are white british who seem quite relaxed, I mentioned about kirtan practice and that will try and be respectful of times etc they seemed okay. But I am conscious of the vibration sounds and disturbing the neighbours as the tabla vibrations are very heavy more than I thought. I dont want to compromise on something that is very close to my heart and lifestyle but equally dont want to cause nuisance. Am I by law allowed to make noise in the day? And if neighbours do complain by knocking how should I handle it?

ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਕਾ ਖਾਲਸਾ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਕੀ ਫ਼ਤਹਿ This isn’t a promotion but I’ve been following the Sikhi Forums online and loved them. I’ve always looked for a platform which allows sangat to connect. I came across Discord and I didn’t think my effort of creating a space for the Sikh community would go far but within 5 days it gained 300 members so I wanted to invite some of those interested . Platform is to further extend the reach of Sikhi so we can spread and raise awareness of the ancient knowledge passed down by our Gurus, warriors, saints, and scholars. This server is part of my everlasting endeavour to create a large online community for Sikhs; not just one where educated Sikhs can have intellectual discussions, but also a place which those who are interested in learning more about Sikhi can rely on. Furthermore, this server acts as the ideal online hub to learn about Puratan Granths [pre-colonial literature] and Sikh literacy as a whole. This server also offers a ‘Kirtan’ channel where one can engross themselves in heart-warming Puratan Keertan, a ‘Katha’ channel where one can attain the extensive knowledge of the most learned Gianis and Vidvaans, a channel dedicated to sharing and discussing Puratan art/symbology, and many other accommodations. All in all, the discord server is your ideal place to share, learn, and indulge in all things related to Sikhi. Thanks to SikhSangat Forum for getting me into Sikhi! I just wanted to make my first post here because this has been playing on my mind for a while now. I feel like Sikhi Kirtan does not have the same passion I hear from other religious musical pieces, and as a result its not inspiring young people. I feel like the popular Kirtans are easy, dull, follows Bollywood/punjabi tunes and therefore lacks originality/identity/spiritualism. I have been listening to Islamic sufi music, Christian hymns and Hindu Kirtans - which I find all sound different and beautiful in their own way. With Sufi music drawing me in the most - even Bollywood adaptations like 'Kun Faya Kun' sound beautiful. With young people, I don't expect Kirtan to modernise, it doesn't need to. Indian Classical Music is and will always remain timeless, if played with passion, dedication and training, then you can draw in anyone no matter where you live. This is why Ravi Shankar and Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan broke internal barriers. Unfortunately most of the kirtan tunes these days sound like outdated Indian/punjabi pop music It doesn't help that only Sikhs can play kirtans in many Gurdwaras around the world. Collaboration inspires creativity - isn't that was sikhism was about? Openness to all? Here is a kirtan I think is nicely composed - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UHJtedXR5v4

I dont listen to Kirtan much, ill be honest, im not amritdhari. I'm into High End audio, owning many pairs of headphones including Hifiman Arya and HD800S, and due to this enjoy high quality mastered songs. I would like to start listening to more Kirtan, and im wondering if there is any well mastered groups of people producing High Fidelity copies of Kirtan, available in Flac ideally (but mastering is more important than the bitrate). Thank You
