  1. Hey folks, I am starting to lose my faith in Sikhi, I feel that I have come to the right place, and perhaps someone on this forum can enlighten me. Over the past few months, I have read various atheist literature from the likes of Richard Dawkins to Christopher Hitchens. I have also watched several videos on YouTube which are critical of faith in general, which have lead me to question my faith in Sikhi. Take this video for example- 'Why do you believe your religion is the true religion' - (it is made by an atheist - who was previously a Muslim): Here is another video on why religion is immoral. Although it primarily focuses on Christianity- it applies to all monothiestic faiths to be honest: Please take time to watch these two videos so you can see where I am coming from. Don't get me wrong, I still think Sikhi is a great belief system when compared to the Abrahamic faiths. I think the Guru's were revolutionaries - they dedicated their lives to spreading equality through womens rights, as well as breaking the cast system at the time. They also stood up for what they beleived in and were extremely brave to sacrifice their lives, and fight for the oppressed in Mughal India at the time. I also feel that the Guru Granth Sahib is a great moral code, contrary to the Old/New testament and the Koran. It is very eloquently written and poetic, and I can understand why it brings a great deal of happiness to people. But I am struggling to believe that it is a divine text from god. I am starting too feel that the Guru's were poets and philosophers, who wrote about a supreme creator, as opposed to being sent from god himself. Please do leave your comments. Apologies if I am challenging your faith - I just want to broaden my understanding of Sikhi - and what it means to you. I have also come to this forum to revive my faith, and it would be great to hear your suggestions..

    A Matter Of Interpretation

Quote from a poster on here replying about somebody keeping their Kesh : Quote "Once a Singh with possibly the longest beard ever at Guru Gobind Singh Ji's darbar Sahib was called over by Guru Ji. The Singh walked towards Guru Ji and Guru Ji hugged the Singh Sahib and put him to his chest and sat him on his lap. So much satkaar for the Kes! The next day, the same Singh came to Darbar Sahib and Guru Ji told all his Singhs to beat up that Singh. They beat up the Singh badly until Guru Ji commanded stop. Then that Singh came to Guru Gobind Singh Ji and said I do not understand, one day you hug me and make me sit in your lap and the other day ou get everyone to beat me up. What happened was, the night before, the Singh went home and looked at his beautiful beard Sahib, he saw one grey hair and pulled it out. For that reason he was given such a thrashing the next day. Daas believes there is no need to explain further as anybody can understand the meaning of this occurance." Unquote This troubles me. I see the harsh moral of the story.........but the poster's description of Guru Ji's actions seem very Un-Guru like to me. Having recently watched 'Chaar Sahibzade' with my family I cannot understand why Guru Ji would do this. The Sikh in the story with the long beard may have been ignorant or vain, but to put his point across the Guru actions a beating? No. If I had done something wrong and stood before the Guru, his admonishing words alone would make me fall to my knees and beg forgiveness and I would never forget the lesson that - a) I had done something wrong b) I had displeased my Guru - which above all would be heavy on my heart. I perceive our Guru Ji's to be loving, wise, powerful and selfless. This story began long ago, it may be over time that its changed or has been interpreted differently.
  6. VJKK VJKF Sat Sangat Ji, I had a question regarding using Shastar for training. I train with Shastar regurlarly, and on one occasion one of my friends came over while I was training. I happened to be training with my Sri Sahib/Kirpan that day and when my friend saw me he said that I shouldn't be taking my Kirpaan out of it's case like that because apparently it wants khoon(blood) when you take it out and taking it out for any other reason than bhog is beadbi. I tried telling him that I was only using it to train and that I never start without an Ardas and asking Guru ji for permission but he said I should use a different one other than my kakaar. The probelm is, I need to use my specific Kirpaan because it is the one that is always with me, so if I had to ever take it out for any combat situation (Which I hope never happens) I want to be fully functional and efficeient with my specific Kirpaan. So my question is: Is it beadbi to take out your kirpan for training, and also, does it really want blood when you take it out. VJKK VJKF

  8. Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Vaheguru Ji Ke Fateh! My question for sangat ji, is regarding the concept Sant Sipahi. Now i know that a sikh is to live their lives according to being a Sant (i.e incopperating the teachings Of Satguru Granths Sahib Ji, Piri) for the Atma, and to also live as Sipahi (i.e. incopperating the teachings of Sri Dasam Granth, and Sri Sarbloh Granth, Miri) to lives a warriors. Also seeing that being a Sant is also like being a Sipahi as you fight spiritually with one self against Maya as well as outside. But what other further depth is there regarding Sant Sipahi? And Also..... I have seen a few pictures of sant who do not adorn themselves with Kirpan, or any weaponary which may also hint that they are not shastardhari which is one of Satguru Gobind Singh Ji Hukam. So why donot wear a Kirpan? And Also When looking at the Mahapurakhs/Sants and the Nihangs i can see that there is a division as some have taken to become a Sipahi and some to become a Sant. Are we sikh not meant to be both rather than one? IMPORTANT NOTICE TO USERS. PLEASE DO NOT....WHAT SO EVER INSULT AND MAHAPURAKH, SANT, OR OTHER SIKH PERSONELS. I AM NOT CREATING THIS TOPIC TO INSULT ANY SANT, MAHAPURAKHS OR OTHER SIKH PERSONELS, I AM JUST AN UNEDUCATED HUMAN BEING WHO IS JUST ASKING A QUESTION. ALSO REMEMBER FOR EACH PERSON YOU INSULT, BACKBITE OR CURSE EACH ONE OF THIER SIN WILL BE PLACED ON YOUR HEAD SO NO ANTI- GURMAT BEHAVIOUR. THANK YOU BLAZINSIKH (INDERPAL SINGH)
  9. My father-in-law passed in a tragic accident involving an 18-wheeler. He was dropping passenger(s) off at Newark airport when he slid on black ice from a previous sleet/snow storm. After the car came to a stop, my father in law checked on the passengers to make sure everyone was okay. After that he proceeded to exit the vehicle to put proper flags, caution lights, etc. out to warn any oncoming traffic. Keep in mind he lost control on an exit ramp leading to the airport. Within minutes, an 18-wheeler came barreling up and around the ramp. Losing control because of speed and other unknown reasons, the truck spun out of control. After the sheriffs arrived to the scene and began to check on everyone involved in the accident, they realized the driver (my father in law) was missing. An officer then went to investigate the surroundings in search of my Parminder. A bit later, he was discovered under the truck. He was covered in snow. After removing the snow, it was obvious he passed of blunt force trauma to the head, neck and body. He was pronounced dead at the scene. My father in law loved to give. He would give you the turban off of his head, the shirt off of his back or the very last dollar in his pocket. He was very involved in the Sikh community here in NYC and loved to make a difference. He loved everyone he met and never stopped laughing. He helped anyone and everyone he possibly could. 10. I was asking this question because I heard of a great sant named Bhai Manj who after becoming a Sikh suffered through a lot of problems, but still kept his Sikhi as part of him, Guru Arjun Dev Ji warned Bhai Manj of following this path but he still followed the Guru. Next Bhai Manj falls into a pit, and his(Guru Arjun Dev Ji) Hukam was that the wood not fall, Bhai Manj kept the wood high, and when he was rescued Guru Arjun Dev Ji asked what has being Sikh given you and Bhai Manj replied that he had received the gift of NAAM through the GURU. So this Sakhi goes to prove something very important that modern Sikhs are diluted to hear"All religions aren't equal" if you have something to add, please do.
  11. Hi everyone, Just came across this website as I was trying to find out some information about a local gurdwara and thought I'd put some of my queries on here as I'm actually really nervous to go to the gurdwara and wouldn't know the etiquette or who would be able to answer my questions there. I'm really interested in Sikhi but I don't know how I should go about things. I believe in the ten gurus and the Sikh philosophy and I don't owe allegiance to any other religion. I'm really inspired by the message of Sikhi but I don't know what to do about it, should I become Sikh? Can I become Sikh? I'm white and although I'm aware of Guru's teaching to treat the human race as one, I personally am not aware of any Sikh who isn't Punjabi so I'm not even sure about whether I can become Sikh. If I'm able, I'm also worried how the Sikh community will feel about me, do you think I would be welcomed or would they think I'm a joke? I believe in all the Sikh beliefs and values and would love to connect to Waheguru - truly I believe I was brought up without a religion so that I can come to find the truth myself and I truly believe in the teachings of Guru ji. I want to do seva and feel so happy I have found true meaning through the teachings of Guru - I'm just not sure what I should do? Can I become Sikh? How do I do this? How do you think I will be received by the community? I really love Waheguru and want to start following this path as it is a path of love I just don't know much information about how to do this. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you in advance guys

  13. Dear All, Not many of you might be aware that there exists a gurdwara in Dubai. This gurdwara was inaugurated in January 2012 and the person who has been driving this project is called Surinder Kandhari, a prominent local businessman belonging to the Sikh diaspora. Initially, we were happy to finally have our place of worship in this country but lately a lot of heretical and anti-gurmat practices have openly started happening in the Gurdwara. The gurdwara is being run like a family owned business and in an ideal world, Mr Kandhari and his cohorts would have been summoned before Akal Takht on grounds of sacrilege but since Akal Takht is under the control of criminals and impostors, there is no point in harboring any hopes from them. I would like to draw the attention of the global sangat towards some practices which are tantamount to making a mockery of our religion: 1) Separate chairs and tables have been placed in thee langar hall and darbar hall. Whilst the idea is to provide comfortable seating for the elderly, these seats are usually occupied by the members of Hindu community who visit the gurdwara. Furthermore, these Hindus act as if they are in a restaurant while having langar. The matter has been repeatedly brought to the attention of the management who refuse to act since they do not want to upset the affluent members of Hindu community. 2) Members of Hindu community regularly show lack of respect to our religious sentiments by showing up to gurdwara in inappropriate clothing (mostly their girls) or letting their children run amok during kirtan. 3) Untrained and non Amrtidharis people are being allowed to do kirtan. It is not uncommon to see kids from influential families being allowed to perform the seva of doing kirtan on Fridays. While it is a good idea, it is definitely not good to see non-Amritdhari children without any knowledge of gurbani unable to pronounce bani correctly. Would you allow somebody to distort shabad of bani? No. But it happens here because these kids belong to affluent "donors" and management would not want to "upset" them. 4) Members of Hindu community routinely throw half-eaten food from langar in garbage bins. When the matter was brought to the attention of sevadars, they expressed their helplessness. 5)Langar hall is used as banquet hall to host wedding and engagement parties. aIt is common to see wedding and engagement ceremonies, including some ceremonies involving mixed Hindu-Sikh couples in gurdwara. During such ceremonies, the langar hall is cleared of sangat and is used as a banquet hall. Non-Sikh waiters and caterers are allowed to serve non-langar food to people. This part of guurdwara is used as a party venue and it is not uncommon to see people including non-Sikhs indulging in gluttony and gossip in gurdwara. It may be noted, that on such days the management asks the snagat to leave early since the langar hall has been "booked". 6) Known heretic, Darshan Singh Ragi was invited to perform kirtan in the gurdwara in January. I am sure everybody in the West is familiar with Darshan Ragi and his heretical rants. Furthermore, one Pakistani who claims to have the "gangasagar" of Sahib Sri Guru Gobind Singh Maharaj was also invited and he had a field day collecting "donations" from gullible Sikhs who were openly bowing to and rubbing their foreheads against the utensil. 7) Now comes the biggest blasphemy of them all. About two weeks ago, the gurdwara played host to a delegation from local Islamic centre who were invited by Mr. Kandhari to "break Ramadan fast" in gurdwara. The visiting delegation were seated on chairs and tables in the langar hall and the gurdwara management actually played adhan the mohammedan call foor prayer in the Gurdwara! Would you believe this?? All this is happening in Gurdwara in the presence of Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj. It is a sacrilege of the highest order to chant words of any other religion in Guru's presence and to play the Mohameddan prayer in a gurdwara extolling their god allah is the crime worth harshest punishment. Would you expect mohammedans to invite Sikhs to do nitnem in a mosque??? Furthermore, a few days before this event, Mr. Kandhari and a few of his cronies were invited to Al Manar Islamic centre where they listened to a lecture on greatness of Mohammedan religion and virtues of fasting during Ramadan. In return, Mr. Kandhari made a speech extolling the virtues of Mohammedan religion and made grovellling attempts to the audience of mohammedans that Sikhi was similar to Islamic religion and "our book" Guru Granth Sahib is similar to Koran in teachings. He also made a groveling speech thanking the local authorities for letting the langar run during Ramadhan. Lastly he committed the ultimate sacrilege by presenting a plaque to Muslims which showed the Islamic shahada and mool mantar inscribed together. How could anybody in their right minds even think of juxtaposing the bani of Akalpurkh with the writings of Moahmmedan book? Mr Kandhari committed the cardinal sin of distorting bani by trying to explain to the audience of muslims that mool mantar and sura al fateh were essentially of same essence. Of course, nothing could be further from truth than this. For all the gross sacrilege, Mr Kandhari got his five seconds of fame when one of the local newspapers published an article with his picture on its backpage. The management of the gurdwara have even boasted about this openly on their facebook page. I have posted few links to this story, so please check it out. Mr. Kandhari wants to gain cheap publicity and wants to be seen in the good books of the authorities so as to preserve his families business interests but to use a gurdwara for nefarious personal objectives is an utterly reprehensible act worthy of strictest condemnation. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W2pItZYsSLE ( Kandhari's speech in Al Manar Centre, please copy and paste the link) https://www.facebook.com/khalsapanth011?fref=ts http://www.khaleejtimes.com/ramadan2014/article-display.asp?xfile=/data/ramadannews/2014/July/ramadannews_July67.xml&section=ramadannews Whilst most of you are busy quibbling amongst each other discussing mundane things on this forum, there are much more sinister things happening in the background.
  14. Waheguru ji ka khalsa waheguru ji ki fathe I am a basic Sikh girl who has a strong typical Indian family, began speaking to a guy on fb, he was a amritdhari Sikh from india it slowly went on whatsapp and falling in love. The problem was that my family firstly would disagree to me talking to boys online and secondly they would never agree on me getting married to a boy from India who is from a different caste. Okay so my family found out and took my phone away and told me to stop and i have agreed to stop. I have begun to realise that i know i do love him but not as much as i thought i think its more that i enjoyed the feeling of having that loving relationship, so now i have learnt to divert my attention to maharaj as i have also had very unexpected close family deaths recently, so i understand that everything here is materialistic and will not stay. Also now that my phone has gone the main barrier between me and sikhi has gone because i did not have time for anything else as most my time use to be on my phone I now do my - 5 baaniya at amritvela -wear a kashera -do other paat in the day if i can -read saakhiya of Guru Nanak Dev ji (which help me incredibly) but sometimes i end up thinking about him and from my fiends account (who he knew also) i message him as if i am my friend telling him that i'm really upset and miss him (which i do badly at times),,, please can anyone suggest anything to help me stop please? Because im planning to be a amritdhari soon so i want to live a honest life with no secrets or lies ! Also i have another query, basically when i do paat i always feel that my mind somehow no matter how much i try to stop it starts to wonder. This even happens at Amritvela and as i want to be amritdahri i really want to be proper because i do have family who is amritdhari but do not live strictly to the rehat such as sometimes lack out on getting gurbani done (i know im not perfect either but saad-sangat ji please i really want to be as good as possible. I do not want people to look at me and think that im in chardikala and feel guilty, i want to be as i appear - a true gursikh ) One last question i just wanted to know that sometimes i do paat and feel happy that i am doing paat and it does have a positive effect on me so i try to be calm all day and kind and giving towards everyone. This mostly means i do all the household chores because i know i have time in which i can do them and whereas the rest of my family is busy working or doing something or another. I do feel happy that i do this and sometimes i think and feel as if im really good and that i think not a lot of other people would do what i am. I am worried in case i get haumai and egoistic ? Like maharaj ji says haumai will defeat all the purpose of doing sewa! So please Guru pyareo any tips ? Lastly i am a young Sikh girl and soon want to start tying a dummalla any really good videos of medium sized dummale pleaaaassssssssssseeeee??? THANK YOU SO MUCH. I hope Guru ji blesses each and every person as we say in the ardas "Nanak naam chardi kala tere bane sarbat da bhala " Waheguru ji :biggrin2:
  15. I believe if you truly believe in Sikhi and truly believe it is the best spiritual religious path in the world then you should be actively promoting it and actively giving parchar to young sikhs and non-sikhs alike through social networks, talks/lectures, online youtube videos, leaflets, websites, blogs. Now lets look at the state of the kaum right now. Hardly any Sikh gives parchar because they dont look into gurbani, sikh history and traditions, which leads to confusion of the kaum and diversion on to other paths and lifestyles to entertain their minds. Sikh2inspire BasicsofSikhi SikhUnit These 3 groups above are trying to revive Sikhi within the western born Sikh youths. There should be at least a 12 of these type of groups operating online and offline to help people learn and progress. Then we will see our numbers grow to where they should be and a able to make a real difference in politics and in society against social ills that bring misery to peoples lives.

  21. Alright, I think I have already posted this in another thread but I think this is could be a discussion in its own, hence I am starting this thread. Time for Sikhs to le go of this garbage called Panjabi culture. All this filth of Heer Ranjjha, Sassi-Punnu, Sohni-Mahiwal, Bulle Shah, Waris Shah etc was spouted by Muslims. It certainly has nothing to do with Sikhi and contradicts everything that Sikh religion stands for. As for the moderns "Panjabi culture" thee less said the better- it is all about casteism, getting drunk/high or false pride disguised as "anakh". Panjabi culture is a defective, stupid and pagan culture. One of the key objectives o Sikh religion was to emancipate the masses from the falsehood of this silly pagan culture and lead them to the path of truth. Anybody could be a Panjabi. Those Muslims from West Panjab and Malerkotla, those Panjabi Hindus, those cults like Ravidasis,Radha Swamis, Dera Lucha Sauda and all such zillion followers of such false evil cults are all Panjabis. Should we embrace them as our brothers? Well I can tell you that they would more than glad to see Sikhs become extinct. It is time to wake up from this illusion of "Panjabiyat " and "Panjabi brotherhood". I say, let Panjabi culture and "Panjabiyat" go to hell. Let both sides of Panjab burn and turn into wastelands. All this would could be tolerated as long as Sikhi prospers and proliferates. Time to make up your minds folks- who are you? Sikh or Panjabi?
  22. Alright. I am going to start a potentially controversial thread here so all those who feel offended by it please accept my apologies in advance. Obviously, the intent is not to offend anybody here. Over the years,I have been reading about all the reports and articles about the muzzies targeting Sikh girls for conversion and sexual assault. This is not something new and has been happening for nearly twenty years now. You can find these dirty camel jockeys bragging openly about how many Sikh girls they have "scored with". You would be surprised to know that this has started in Punjab too while our people sit ideally with their heads buried in sand. I was recently on a flight from Amritsar to Dubai when a dirty musla swine from Malerkotla from sitting in the seat behind me started having a conversation with his Hindi speaking co-religionist, He bragged how beautiful the women in Punjab are and how easy it is to get a Sikh girl. He kept on before I turned around said to him " B****C**** tun vapas mur ke Punja hi aona, kehra tera katte hoye bharawan ne tainu pakka rakh laina Dubai vich? Mera naam yaad rakh la te main Patiale ton te tera Malerkotla mere shahron 70 km hi door a. A ke tainu te tere tabbar nu hala kar deyange, vekhda tera allah kiddan bachaonda tainu" Dirty malecch could not utter a word. His name is Tausif Iqbal and he is working as a labourer in Sharjah UAE and I am keeping tabs on him. Sacche patshah di kirpa nal ehda vi soda la dena ikk na ikk din. Now back to the point- what is stopping Sikh guys from responding to these camel jockeys in the UK? Why cant you lost just hit them back? They are bunch of wimps and retreat easily when dealt with force. Hit them back. Attack them. Chop a few of them down and they will see the light. Of course,, blood will be shed but then sometimes it is necessary to shed blood when your survival is at stake. Now here is the can of worms- just like mulleh target our girls, we should target theirs too. Yes, I am advocating this and yes I am a Sikh. Now before the liberals, apologists for secularism, pseudo-Sikhs, supporters of universal brotherhood etc get on their high horses and start condemning me from a moral high ground, I would like to say that I am sorry that I offended your sensibilities but I stand by what I say. Unlike you lost, I am not going to hide behind the curtain of morality, equality etc and start quoting bani to hide my unwillingness to take action. We are in the middle of a war. Yes these onslaughts are a part of a war against declared by these camel jockeys. In war everything is ethical- nothing is immoral or wrong. Surely they see it this way and so should we. It is time to pay these b******* back in the same coin. This is where our monay brother can help the community. They should start targeting their girls and start dating them and slowly introducing them to the pleasures of material world. Once you sow seeds of doubts in the minds of their women, it is easy to break them away. Use them just like they use our girls. Let our boys give them a new generation of kids. Don't worry about morality friends because you committed the biggest sin the day you shed your hair but you can still do the community a great service by using your current appearance to target the women of the enemy. Now I don care if the moralist/apologists for secularism delete my thread or ban me. It wont change anything in my life but it would definitely convince me that members of community have now become self serving hypocrites who like to conceal their cowardice behind a veil of morality.

    What Will Happen?

what does Sikhism say about what will happen when you die? other religions talk about judgement but what will happen to Sikhs? does anyone know ? are there any references in Guru Granth Sahib Ji ?
  24. VJKK VJKF Sat sangat ji, I am a really bad position and that's why I have made this post so one of you guys could help me with my problem. I am a martial arti student, I go to this one akhara {cannot reveal the name right now} which teaches me various different martial arts like shastar vidhiya/sikh swordsmanship and takes the best ideas from various different martial arts like kung fu, mma , muay thai for street defense. I go 2-3 times a week (a class is usually an hour and a half long) and I am in high school but homework is not a problem because I can finish at lunch. I am an amritdhari sikh. This is where my problem comes in. I am not the best at amrit vela, in fact I am really bad because my body requires a lot of sleep (9-10 hrs) so I dont crash midday or when I am training. Since I am really bad at amrit vela I usually do my nitnem when I come back from school because I can barely wake up to get ready on time for school but my parents are telling me I should do my nitnem before school and it's gotten to the point where they are blackmailing me. They know I love shastar vidhiya so much that if i don't start doing my nitnem before school there going to take me out of my akhara. I really love training and I do it for many good reasons that tie in with sikhi as well. Like one of the 52 hukams of Guru Gobond Singh ji maharaj was to train in this and it really has helped me unserstand more about the sipahi side from sant sipahi which I believe not many sikhs today in Cananda(this where i'm from) are fulfilling. I tried explaining to my parents about all sorts of thigs that happen like knife attacks, assaults, etc. and that every sikh should have self defense but they don't believe that it will ever happen. So this is my problem Sat Sangat Ji, I am stuck and don't know what I do. If I don't listen to my parents they will cancel my membership and everything I love in life will be gone but if I wake up early it has really bad effects on my body,(can't focus in class because I'm falling asleep, can't train /workout because I have no energy, etc.) Please leave any suggestions because I am really having problems with this and it is tearing my family apart.

    Sikh Escatology

Does anybody know anything about Sikh eschatology ? because Christian and Islam eschatology has a high profile but there is not much on the Sikh perspective. Even when you search on the internet there are not much at all ? is it being ignored ? undermined ? quite worrying ?
