  1. Hello I am new on here. I am not sure if people here mind if a Christian joins? I am interested in the Sikh religion. I have heard there are many similarities and i have certain questions. Is it ok to ask? I hasten to say i believe in respecting everyone and that dialogue is healthy. People should communicate with each other.
  2. like how many of the key concepts are almost same in both of them , viz , Karma , Dharma, belief in rebirth , belief that last thought of a dying person manifests in afterlife, etc etc and the sameness or concurrence of festivals : Bandi chhor/diwali, Holi/Hola , etc How do you answer if a hindu brother asked you "but you copied from hindu religion"
  3. I think I just committed apostasy in sikhi. I’m kesadhari/Nitnemi and not amritdhari. long story short, a man approached me at work started to ask stuff about me which was very unusual. So he was rather nice and then he reaches out to shake my hand before leaving and I shook him and then asked me to say “Jesus, come into my heart.” Me being a dumba$$ that I am I actually said it. Now I feel really terrible. It’s 10pm at night. I feel like I betrayed guru sahib. how do I fix this mess? How do i apologize to guru sahib that I messed up and accept me back. ”jab lag Khalsa rahe niara, tab tak tej diyo Mai Sara. Jab eh Gaye bipran ki reet, Mai na Karu Inki parteet.” help me!
  4. Sometimes when I look at the current state of affairs of sikh dharam , it seems we're sitting on the edge of a cliff or rather spiralling down since the fall of Sikh empire. On my recent trip to punjab, I felt like the state is in abject poverty , and ofcourse hindus do mock sikhs now as "drug peddlers" , "udta punjab" , "you ppl lack industries and employment" and what not. Some signs of deadly decadence of Sikhi : 1) so many of our men are not committed to turban / kes. Honestly being a haircut sikh was never so easier. 2) utter jaahilta among sikh masses. Most don't even know name of 10 gurus , 5 nitnem baanis name , and perhaps know nothing more than mool mantar. Imagine if most sikhs had nitnem baani kanth and did regular paath . Even a lengthy baani as Sukhmani sahib renders itself to memorization if recited daily . 3) Punjab is decreasing in sikh demography . If you just recently been to punjab , you will find it hard pressed to see turbaned men , or rather 1 turban man for every 10 others . Most of people I see are bhaiyye from up/bihar .Punjab was 61% sikh 20 yrs back and now its just little above 50%. Christian missionaries conversion is highest rate ever. 4) Hindi sign boards more common than Punjabi sign boards. Try doing this in some other state , but its ok in punjab because sikhs are spineless af . 5) Sikhs political back is broken and we have badals and captains destroying punjab further. The whole qaum rests on mercy of akal purakh and if you see from an atheist point of view sikhs are doomed . All signs point to that way. what do you think ?

  8. I would love to know your thoughts, on why homosexuality is deemed not normal in Sikhi (are they allowed to take amrit?) **Is it just a mental illness? And can people be turn heterosexual via paat and naam simran, or is it allowed via God or I dont know how to phrase this question properly?

    desire to trim my beard

    Satsriakal everyone I am a sikh boy,20 years old and I am a proud gursikh who has lately had an urge to trim my beard. I have been doing a lot of research on this but have not come across a reasonable argument. Why is it that me making a personal life decision of trimming my beard might move me away from my sikhi in the eyes of others. The reason why I would want to trim my beard is because I would feel more comfortable and neat. I proudly wear a turban and will always carry on wearing it with pride and honour. Some of the reasons which I came across were that our Gurus kept their honour and many sikh men have given their lives to protect this honour. I completely agree with this and I understand we should never move away form the religion but slightly trimming the beard just to be more comfortable and make it look neat? is that not acceptable? other reason was that we should respect how god has created us and should live in the natural form but then should we not factor in the advancements and change accordingly? if we live naturally only then is it not also wrong to get medical treatment? and so many other things we do in our daily life for instance even cutting out nails? I am sorry if I have said something wrong but I would like to make it clear that sikhi is in my heart,trimming my beard will not change the sentiment one bit and I encourage you to counter what I have said as it will only help me take this decision. thanks a lot
  11. So if you was to meet say a muslim and you wanted to convince him her to leave the abrahamic cult of islam and opt for Sikhi how would you go about it? To me muslims are often per-occupied by the afterlife they are often taught to foresake this world and its people and look for rewards in jannah (islamic paradise). They also often cite creation mythological story of allah creating the world in 6 days like the jewish/christian bible and how the devil is real. As the alleged story goes he was a fallen angel (shaytan) who was once the most beloved of allah's creation until one day allah decided out of no where to create adam on earth and told Lucifer to bow down to him. And rightly so in a just world in a fair system you would not bow down to someone inferiour to you or who hasnt risen amoung the ranks and thus the fallen angel did not do so either. Imagine you worked and served your master for eons and today this unknown simpleton adam is created out of no where and you are told to be subservient to him. Mad decisions mad choices unfair system The whole abrahamic mythological creationist story can be easily dismantled and destroyed. The afterlife also can be explained away because in jannah there will be rivers of alcholic wine and 72 houris to have sex with. All kinds of fake and false pleasures...the believer is allegedly going to get as rewards... you will almost come across various murderers and rapists who killed many innocent non-muslims and now allegedly living it up with allah and his messanger enjoying the fruits of their terrible labor.

I am totally confused in life, In my home country few years ago I was financially weak, then Waheguru ji helped me "Neeche Uch Kare Mera Gobind" I was in a rent shop then I got some money and Started my Business at my own place, bought Bike & Car, renovated my home. Everything was great than my previous life, but now I was not happy as money was not my own earned but of my Fathers kamai, So I started feeling bad that I had a lot but its not my own (my Father died few year before all these changes) so I thought to try to go foreign for studies and there I will earn my own money and will feel good I prayed and even with very thin chances of getting visa I was blessed and got Visa, but the moment I landed at first few days I was happy and motivated to start doing some work before my classes as my college had some time to start. So on the very first day at work I was happy but next day I felt that its a wrong decision and I was so unhappy that i wanted to Go back. So I took a decision and ask for refund from college and told my mother, brothers that im coming back and they said No You should not come back, not only my parents but each and every person I meet told me no to go back and that If I go back then I will fail and at some point in life I will regret this decision. When I listen to Gurbani then Guru ji says that if a person wants to be happy then he should do simran, path, sewa, kirt kamai (hard work) and then guru will bless him and no matter where you are your life will be full of happiness. When I listen to gurbani guru ji says that person is never happy with what he got he is always trying to earn more and more but person never feel full, desires never stops. The more I Listen more my thoughts becomes strong that maybe I really took a bad decision and I should go Back to my country and focus on my business which I started and then left for moving to other country. While I was having time before the refund of my college fee my friends told me to try to go to college for a day see the outer world but I was shaking and was not having any power to go to college. I dont know why..Im still in the other country but now only got few days either i have to go back or I have to get admission in some course. In my entire life I have never worked at any other place than my own business with my father and even after his death I continued the business now I have single chance to study in foreign but When I thought that I have to do Work and study I again start feeling shaky and sad and stressed and feel like I cant do this and any other thing Im just so sad so so sad I feel like im lost, feel Hopeless. My friends came to this country Canada and they had a lot of dreams and I dont have any dream, I dont want to achieve anything or make my name in this world as I know deep down in my heart that One day my death is coming and this life is given to me for only simran of God Waheguru " Avar kaaj tere kise na kaam mil sadh sangat bhaj keval namm " so Now im totally lost I dont know anymore what to do in life and what not to do in life. if anyone of you can understand my problem please guide me. thank you you can mail me your suggestions (navjotsingh2k18@gmail.com)

Often times when I or many other Sikhs are debating people of other faiths, I allways hear some Sikhs bring up the line: ਬੇਦ ਕਤੇਬ ਕਹਹੁ ਮਤ ਝੂਠੇ ਝੂਠਾ ਜੋ ਨ ਬਿਚਾਰੈ ॥ - Siri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, Ang 1350 Which is translated to mean: "Do not say that the Vedas, the Bible and the Koran are false. Those who do not contemplate them are false." Link to full shabad: https://www.searchgurbani.com/guru-granth-sahib/ang-by-ang I have asked many people about the true meaning behind this tuk, and most people would agree that its correctly translated, however there are some who would disagree, and translate it in a way that is directly the opposite of what the English translation means. Let me give you an example: Literal meaning breakdown ਬੇਦ = Literally meaning "Ved" referring to the Vedas from Sanatana Dharma (often called "Hinduism") ਕਤੇਬ = Literally meaning "books", however in the context of Bhagat Kabeer it means the three major abrehamic books: bible, quran, torah. ਕਹਹੁ = Literally meaning "Say" ਮਤ = Now this is the part that is often disputed. How one interprets this one word can change the entire shabads meaning, and even affect Sikhi as a whole. Often times people will say "mat" means "do not", however the same word is also used with different meanings. An example is the word "Gurmat", this word doesn't mean "Guru Dont". ਝੂਠੇ = Literally meaning "false" or "untrue" Differences in Opinion The AKJ founder Randhir Singh translated this tuk to mean that Bhagat Kabeer (who is technically not a Muslim but a Sikh as per Gurbani) is saying that this tuk is saying that the ved and abrehamic books are false, however most of the English translations that Sikhs read, seem to suggest the exact opposite. I am personalty not AKJ or any other jatha, and I disagree with some stuff Bhai Randir Singh says, however on this specific issue, I lean towards "ਮਤ" not meaning "do not" in this context. The reason for this is becuase if you take the entire shabad, as well as the life of Bhagat Kabeer, its obvious that hes criticizing Islamic practices, and fundamental ideas of the abrehamic regions, and the eastern dharmas under the blanket of Sanatana Dharma. People often bring up the counter argument that "all relgions/dharmas have some truth in them", and this is generally true, and varies on specific relgion or dharma, however in general, the reason Sikhi needed to be revitalized in the 4th age (Kal Yug "the dark age") was becuase all other religions and dharms had failed (as stated in Dasam Granth which is generally believed to be written by the Guru in his 10th temporal form). Bani also criticizes the vedas on other shabads, correct me if im wrong, but at one point it literally says that its make belief, so then why would the Guru contradict itself? Here is an example of a counterargument against the English translation of "Do not say that the Vedas, the Bible and the Koran are false. Those who do not contemplate them are false."   14. Why do you feel a need to say this, bro? The people who don't have a 3 hour Nitnem are not "Punjabi Hindus". I don't know what circles you inhabit, but there are vast numbers of people who aren't in complete Rehit, but are not Hindus by any stretch of the imagination. They do not worship idols, they don't go to mandirs, and when they encounter difficulties or happiness in life (like the birth of a child), they go the the Gurdwara. They may not recite Sukhmani Sahib every day, but they definitely don't recite Gayatri Mantar, either. As far as the definition of a Sikh as per Gurbani, there may only be a handful of people in the entire world that meet that definition. I.e., people who recite the Naam with every single breath: ਗੁਰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਜੋ ਸਿਖੁ ਅਖਾਏ ਸੁ ਭਲਕੇ ਉਠਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵੈ ॥ Gur Sathigur Kaa Jo Sikh Akhaaeae S Bhalakae Outh Har Naam Dhhiaavai || One who calls himself a Sikh of the Guru the True Guru shall rise in the early morning hours and meditate on the Lord's Name. ਗਉੜੀ ਵਾਰ¹ (ਮਃ ੪) (੧੧) ਸ. (੪) ੨:੧ - ਗੁਰੂ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ : ਅੰਗ ੩੦੫ ਪੰ. ੧੬ Raag Gauri Guru Ram Das ਜੋ ਸਾਸਿ ਗਿਰਾਸਿ ਧਿਆਏ ਮੇਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਸੋ ਗੁਰਸਿਖੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਵੈ ॥ Jo Saas Giraas Dhhiaaeae Maeraa Har Har So Gurasikh Guroo Man Bhaavai || One who meditates on my Lord, Har, Har, with every breath and every morsel of food - that GurSikh becomes pleasing to the Guru's Mind. ਗਉੜੀ ਵਾਰ¹ (ਮਃ ੪) (੧੧) ਸ. (੪) ੨:੫ - ਗੁਰੂ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ : ਅੰਗ ੩੦੫ ਪੰ. ੧੯ Raag Gauri Guru Ram Das So if you missed a breath, you're not a Sikh.
  15. One line from Sukhmani sahib answers this question. ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੈ ਸਿਮਰਨਿ ਗਰਭਿ ਨ ਬਸੈ ॥ Remembering God, one does not reside in the womb. Ang 262 There are some Sikhs who don't believe the soul travels through any other life. However the above line from Sukhmani sahib is telling us if a person does simran of Akal Purakh they won't come in the womb again. The word "again" is being added in the interpretation because we came into this world through the mother's womb as a human already. Now Sukhmani sahib is saying to prevent from coming again we need to do his simran (remember Akal Purakh). Some Sikhs will play with the word ਗਰਭਿ (which means womb) and say we won't reside in the world if we do his simran. Such an analogy does not work because we reside in the world whether we do his simran or not. A jivan mukht person reside on earth till its time to leave the world. Similarly replacing the word womb with mind. The person resides in the mind by thought whether we do his simran or not. A jivan mukht person resides in the mind to fulfill the worldly duties as was shown by Bhagat Dhanna Jatt ji who asked for a good wife and cow after being jivan mukht. The analogies don't work and this bothers some Sikhs very much. They are stuck with their belief system. Sukhmani sahib says remember him and the mind will be soothed to accept what Gurbani says. Gurbani tells us what to do and also gives us facts on how Vaheguru runs his creation.

    Punjabi Cinema

    Why do a good majority of Punjabi movies promote caste when we as Sikhs ideologically are not supposed to be following the caste system? If the word "Jatt" isn't mentioned in a typical movie (which most likely it will) then at least the last names of all major characters are mentioned to indirectly denote their caste. I don't get why this agenda is pushed out by Punjabi Cinema and no one really speaks against it? Because it appeases the majority population and thus usage of this single word can make the film a cash cow? I don't mean to take jabs at anyone, as the only example I can use in context of Punjabi Cinema is Jatt promotion. But I guess the point of my question is; why is any type of caste promotion of any caste not looked down upon by mainstream Sikh Punjabis? Is there a solution to it?

He is Creator of world, without any fear and without any hate. He is neither born and neither die. He has no body, He is the greatest spirit of all and our soul is a part of Him.   19. State govt of maharashtr allocates 3600 crore rupees to build a memorial of shivaji , their god (who ironically doesn't have a temple, unlike other actual dieties of hindus) . His old forts are being repaired by allocation of hundreds of crores of rupees. RSS and hindutva does love this warrior king WAY TOO MUCH for too reasons 1) He was hindu king who fought mughals and other muslims , and most importantly, 2) He didn't challenge existing brahmin supremacy and rather appointed 8 brahmin heads in his council of ministers and called it "asht pradhan" (eight cardinals). No wonder everyone loves him so much here and more than god . But brahmins still won't allow a temple be built in his name. They just used him and his ignorance of religion to usurp power. Meanwhile, same maharashtr govt made changes to hazur sahib act so that the president of Hazur sahib would be directly appointed by the govt and not the board . They appointed a "sikh" MLA as new president of hazur sahib who wears tilak on his forehead and worships hindu gods. How could we have allowed this to happen right under our noses is BAFFLING ! Rather we welcomed his appointment with open arms and felicitated him . What has happened to our sikhs ? There's definitely a maratha revivalism happening right under our noses right since BJP came to power in 2014 in center and also current maharashtr govt is BJP ruled headed by brahmin chief minister. Marathas agitate for reservation but looks like CM (brahmin) isn't giving them any , but just pretense that he will . It is obvious even at superficial observation of things that brahmans just want to use maratha warrior clan to their own benefit . I am now wondering the ways these evil people have been manipulating "apney" in punjab (badals) . As our own state punjab is in disarray like never and our kaum is confused and lost like never, while the ones we thought as our brothers have now come to back stab us , I feel very uneasy Does anyone else here getting my thought process ?
  20. Thakur Dalip Namdhari did Amrit Sanchar (Baptise) by Amritdhari women to flourish amritdhari community. is it wrong or right ? Yesterday Akal Takht Sahib has announced that they will conduct meeting of 5 jathedhars on 5th May against women empowerment step taken by namdhari head Thakur Dalip Singh, Thakur Dalip Singh has given rights of Amrit Chhakauna ( Baptise ) to Sikh Women. Thakur Dalip has taken step by authorizing amritdhari women to give amrit (Baptise) others for the seek of practical equality of women in Sikhs religion. He said according to gurbani and Sikh philosophy women are equal. If women can take Amrit then after being amridhari women why they cannot give amrit to others. His aim is to baptise more and more women. To achieve this goal he says women are influenced more by women than men. Therefore we should authorized women also to baptise (distribute Amrit). Now some people objected openly and started propaganda against this step of women authorization of distributing Amrit (baptising). They have approached Akal Takht sahib against this women empowerment. Now I request all you learnt people to give your views to clarify this point. Has Dalip Singh committed sin by authorizing women to give Amrit to others? or he has done a good deed by authorizing women. For information of all readers Sikh rehat maryada published by Sharomani committee approved by Akal Takhat sahib on page 20. It is clearly written that women can give Amrit (Baptise).
  21. Once again 3HO are at it trying to justify their practices of yoga. Through an article written by Harjinder Singh Khalsa, the claim is yoga (posture, breathing, mudras and mental techniques), specifically kundalini yoga aids the mind to where the person is able to focus on Shabad Guru. This sounds very innocent and some are probably fooled by it too. Let me rephrase, a lot of Punjabi Sikhs are fooled by this teaching of 3HO. Harjinder Singh Khalsa tries his best to make a case for 3HO. 3HO have been sought after because they make many wild claims. They use numerology to name one manmat practice. Yet some Sikhs like Harjinder Singh Khalsa feel 3HO are being targeted for no reason. I'm start off with what Harjinder Singh Khalsa says, yoga does not lead to mukti. This is very true and yet he goes off on a tanget and says kundalini is approved in Gurbani to help aid the mind for meditating on Gurbani. From Harjinder Singh Khalsa article it is evident he does not have the knowledge to interpret Gurbani or he intentionally went with an English translation that will sway his reader to approve of kundalini yoga as an aid. Or he's lazy and did not check with credible sources on interpreting Gurbani. On ang 909 Satguru is speaking about what is the true way to achieve mukti. Satguru directly speaks to yogis and their false show of being holy, they have lost the plot and don't know how to achieve mukti. Harjinder Singh Khalsa at the beginning of the article accuses others of not presenting shabads in the correct manner, who speak against yoga. But Harjinder Singh Khalsa leaves this line out when quoting ang 909. jogI jugiq gvweI hMFY pwKMif jogu n pweI ]10] ਜੋਗੀ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਗਵਾਈ ਹੰਢੈ ਪਾਖੰਡਿ ਜੋਗੁ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥੧੦॥ jogee jugat gavaae'ee handdai paakhandd jog na paae'ee ||10|| (ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਭੇਖ ਦੇ) ਪਖੰਡ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹਾਸਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ; (ਜਿਹੜਾ ਜੋਗੀ ਨਿਰਾ ਇਸ ਪਖੰਡ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਉਸ) ਜੋਗੀ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦੀ ਜੁਗਤੀ (ਹੱਥੋਂ) ਗਵਾ ਲਈ ਹੈ, ਉਹ (ਵਿਅਰਥ) ਭਟਕਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧੦। Yogi, you have lost the Way; you wander around confused. Through hypocrisy, Yoga is not attained. ||10|| Harjinder Singh Khalsa went out of his way to accuse others, but get's caught in his own arrogances. He quotes ang 909 to say the following: siv nagaree mehi aasan baisai gur sabadhee jog paaee ||11|| Sitting in Yogic postures in the City of God, through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, you shall find Yoga. ||11|| dhhaathur baajee sabadh nivaarae naam vasai man aaee ||12|| Restrain your restless wanderings through the Shabad, and the Naam will come to dwell in your mind. ||12|| (Guru Amar Das J; GGSJ: 909) When I went on Sikhitothemax.com, I found the same translation into English on their site. Whoever did these translations did a horrible job of representing the Guru. The line in bold tells a lot about the person who did the translations. "Siv nagaree" is being translated as "city of God". Here the word "Siv" is referring to the devta Shiva as the Hindu God. Yet the translator refuses to say shiva and writes God. For whatever reason the translator refuses to do a literal translation for this first part. But then for the second part of the tuk, the translator has no problem doing a literal translation of "mehi aasan baisai"....."sitting in yogic postures". You can't have it both ways, when it comes to translating. It's one or the other; be literal or describe the allegory. Anyone reading this translation will be completely misdirected as Harjinder Singh Khalsa. So how should this be translated. We know from other Shabads, Shiva is not seen as Vaheguru and is not to be taken as the Guru either. Therefore a literal translation of the line is not correct. To translate "mehi aasan baisai" literally to suit a person's agenda will not be happening here. Neither will "Siv nagaree" be translated to promote someone else's agenda. "Siv nagaree" in Gurmat is speaking about dasam dwar. A Sikh in the dasam dwar is to "mehi aasan baisai" which means to gain focus. On what do we gain focus on in the dasam dwar? Guru's Shabad and the end result is Jog (not yoga). Jog means union with Vaheguru. So here is the whole line together: siv nagaree mehi aasan baisai gur sabadhee jog paaee ||11|| In the dasam dwar focus on the Guru's Shabad and gain union with Vaheguru. Here is another translation in Punjabi below. Those who can read Punjabi can see, "siv nagaree" is being translated as sadh sangat and "mehi aasan baisai" is translated as focused on Guru Shabad. isv ngrI mih Awsix bYsY gur sbdI jogu pweI ]11] ਸਿਵ ਨਗਰੀ ਮਹਿ ਆਸਣਿ ਬੈਸੈ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਜੋਗੁ ਪਾਈ ॥੧੧॥ siv nagaree mahi aasaN baisai gur sabadhee jog paae'ee ||11|| (ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਜਿਹੜਾ ਜੋਗੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਗੁਰ-ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਜੋਗੀ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਆਸਣ ਉਤੇ ਬੈਠਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ।੧੧। When you look up Bhai Sahib Singh translation in Punjabi, he translates exactly the same as the Punjabi translation above So at this point we have achieved the goal to say yoga, kundalini yoga postures are not promoted in Gurbani.
