O Lord of the Universe, O Lord of the World, O Dear Merciful Beloved. ||1||Pause|| You are the Master of the breath of life, the Companion of the lost and forsaken, the Destroyer of the pains of the poor. ||1|| O All-powerful, Inaccessible, Perfect Lord, please shower me with Your Mercy. ||2|| Please, carry Nanak across the terrible, deep dark pit of the world to the other side. ||3||8||30|| — Guru Arjan Dev Ji Auction: Art4Action – World Malaria Day 2012 Faiths Act is a multi-faith global movement to achieve the Millennium Development Goals, focusing on eliminating deaths from malaria. We have supporters and volunteers in more than 130 countries organising easy, fun activities to raise awareness and funds to tackle deaths from malaria. It is spearheaded by a group of young ambassadors, the Faiths Act Fellows, from the US, India, UK and Canada. On the ground in countries like Sierra Leone, Faiths Act is establishing and supporting projects that mobilise faith communities around malaria public health messaging. In Birmingham, fellows Immy Kaur and Steve Hirst are working to spearhead multi faith action against Malaria. Art 4 Action is a competition to raise awareness and funds for malaria eradication in Sierra Leone. It has been launched across the city of Birmingham and is open to artists of all ages contact i.kaur@springfieldproject.org.uk for more information. About this piece ‘Saving Souls’ In line with the ethos of Faiths Act, I believe that every human in this world has a right to life and health, and every human who is able, has the duty to help those in need. One of the very basic principles for spiritual growth is to look at everyone as equal despite colour, caste, creed, religion or social status. Helping and providing love to those in need before helping ourselves (Sarbath da Bhallaa) is something a Sikh must aspire to put into thought and practice where possible. As part of the Art4Action campaign I have attempted to illustrate these very teachings in this piece – our much-needed effort to Saving Souls from the clutches of Malaria. All funds raised from this artwork and the Art 4 Action campaign will go straight to multi faith initiatives in Sierra Leone, to help save lives from the preventable and treatable deadly killer Malaria.
