  1. Now that villains with long beards and turbans are once again dominating the American news cycle, I think singhs who are living in America need to be on guard. The backlash is coming. Stay safe brothers.
  2. This is interesting. Especially the whole 'hold your own nuts' thing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aE651vsfmmo

    Sikhism in America Video

What are the sangats thoughts about this video. Its pretty interesting, as it highlights second and third generation Sikhs, and their experiences in the Sikh community. https://youtu.be/VDtWWHbRVlA
  4. Wjkk, wjkf! What is happening? Is this true? Is the Indian government really trying to spread it's anti-Sikh/Sikhs-are-Hindus propagandas on an international level through the top universities in U.S? If it's true, what can be done to stop them? American Sikhs and Sikh organisations need to tackle this asap! Wjkk wjkf!
  5. Something which I recently acquired from the Sikh Talk page on facebook, worth a read: Akal Security is, according to their website, 'one the largest U.S. owned security services provider to the U.S. Government'...'and is responsible for protecting critical government and industrial facilities'....'Akal Security specialises in providing security for critical federal government facilities, state and local government agencies and military installations.' . . . This includes the infamous I.C.E, the Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the government detention centres that have been in the news lately following the recent U.S policy of separating families at the borders and taking away kids from their parents, locking them away in cages. . . . The beneficiaries of this policy are Sikh. . . . In fact, a quick visit to their website, specifically the careers page, and the first vacancy that appears is an 'Armed Detention Officer' where duties include 'Maintain constant guard, physical control and observation of detainees at all times and 'Comply with all applicable post orders, ICE directives'. . . . Is this another fine example of Sikh values are American Values? . . . The company is based in Espanola, New Mexico, and has landed more than $1 billion in federal contracts after the Sept. 11 attacks. The Sikh company continues to profit from the ongoing suffering of those that encounter border control and the recent policy involving family separation. . . . . We witnessed this week the Trump administration attempt to justify this abhorrent and inhumane policy of family separation according to the Bible. Would it be likely that we could see the CEO of Akal Security, Nirmal Kaur Khalsa, similarly justify the policy and their contractual obligations on Sikh grounds? . . . The method by which the children are being taken away is that the staff at these centres are telling the parents that their children are being taken away for baths, only to never return. . . . Akal Security is responsible for recruiting and training the individuals that commit such acts under the rubric of 'essential duties'. They are in large part the ones locking away the kids and separating families and do so as a Sikh organisation.
  6. Enjoy if you didn't get to see the whole episode on CNN
  7. Hi everyone, I am a singh who was born and raised in America. I am considering moving to Edinburgh, Scotland. I wanted to ask the UK Sikhs on this board about what the Sikh community in Scotland is like. 1. Are there a decent amount of Sikhs in Scotland? 2. What is the Sikh community in Scotland like? (In other words: is it made up mostly of new immigrants, or Sikhs who immigrated long ago? Are the Sikhs there more from a rural background or an urban background? Are the Sikhs there generally religious or secular? Are there a decent number of Gurdwaras?) 3. Are there significant Sikh communities outside of Scotland (in Northern England) that are a reasonable commute from Scotland? 4. How difficult/expensive is it to travel from Scotland to the parts of the UK with large Sikh populations (London, West Midlands)? I am worried about moving to a place where I will feel isolated. It would be good to know what I can expect in Scotland in terms of the local Sikh community.
  8. I think its pretty close by the looks of things. The way donald is being unpredictability on form by aggressively attacking Syria's military base and kim jung un being his erratic self it makes a dangerous mix of volatile personalities and potentials of huge conflict. The american military views a Nuclear capable N.Korea a threat to their globalist and strategic interests, they think starting a war now is better than starting a war much later on when N.Korea has developed long range nuclear missile capability to strike the US mainland if it was start war later on. Problem they have got is that N.Korea would launch a devastating nuke and short-medium range missile attacks on US bases in Japan, S.Korea and elsewhere or even give technical nuclear tech to other nations to attack the US and its allies. So from that basic analysis I can see things going downhill pretty fast starting this year.
  9. Just watched and was wondering what you all thought of the President's speech.
  10. Anyone watching this show in Netflix? I just saw ep.3 and am in shock at how they used a 16 year old boy, who clearly has serious learning difficulties, to incriminate himself (and his uncle) in murder!
  11. I wonder who is stockpiling weapons like this? My bet would be that it was redneck type goray, trying to be ready for some 'final reckoning'? According to latest FBI data, more guns were sold in December than almost any other month in the past 20 years http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/gun-sales-soar-as-americans-mass-buy-firearms-after-obama-calls-for-buying-restrictions-a6797466.html
  12. The Sikh American Legal Defense and Education Fund has been invited by the worlds largest media company, Comcast-NBCUniversal, to help produce and distribute a public service announcement highlighting Sikh Americans. When Comcast-NBCUniversal approached [us], we grew increasingly excited about the possibilities. As President Obama said during his first campaign for the White House, Our destiny is not written for us, but by us, said a SALDEF spokesperson. Telling our story to a mainstream American audience, on national television, is a historic opportunity. SALDEF urges Sikhs around the U.S. to submit videos for consideration for the PSA spots. Home movies or cell phone video is fine showing you doing what you love. What youre good at. What you value. Show yourself driving a motorcycle. Bowling with friends. Volunteering at gurdwara. Working at a bank, running a marathon, feeding a baby, coaching a team, raising a family, riding a horse, jumping out of a plane, driving a cab, driving a Ferrari, or meeting friends for lunch, said a spokesperson. Please submit videos by Mar. 7 here: http://tinyurl.com/k2gmcco. For more information, visit Saldef.org.
  13. Hi, I have an opportunity to go to America for 2 weeks and visit an American University (Harvard, Massachusetts and Yale). However, I don't know if I should go. The stories I hear of Sikhs in America do put me off. I know it probably doesn't happen a lot, but it is a bit off putting. Has anyone been to these universities, or live near them? How is the area and are there Sikhs in the area?

    Disability In India

Hi everyone, I'm writing about disability in India/America for a class of mine. Does anyone have first-hand experience on manners relating to them, a loved one, or anyone, involved with a disability that is neglected? Do any of you feel people with disabilities in India (or outside India) are neglected and not taken seriously? Thank you!
