  1. I have read that when you write something down you are more committed. Here is my commitment for May month. Please join me to keep it strong if anyones interested. I will not use facebook, instagram, watch non-gurmat/non-productive utube, watch movies, watch provocative material, or read anything provocative, or watch par triya roop or hasth maithuna. I will atleast wakeup by 5 am and meditate. I will keep up with stronglifts 5x5 which I just started last week. My starting stats are quite poor , bench press 70x10, ohp 45x5, squats 45 x10, deadlift 135x1, back row 45x5 (lbs) If I break any rule, I will report here and ask maafi from sangat. I will update end of month and re-committ starting june. Lets do it!
  2. God grace I use to go to amritvela simran with sangat daily and I was overjoyed happy just loved it. Last year I began working full time job n it was at night so I would miss amritvela simran. I feel miserable without that sangat n simran and really dont have interest in earning so much money I just need a little to survive n I don't have interest in marriage or kids. When I'm at work I'm 99 percent of the time watching sangat on YouTube during simran and participating. Kind of feel depressed without being there and life seems pointless without simran n sangat. I use to be a bouncer at a club n I would get to simran amritvela in the morning that was my favorite job because of the fighting not females I just spoke to them normally as if they were my family. My current job is easy but 4 days out of the week n 3 days all get to do simran with sangat is like what I look forward too. Just to go to gurudwara is something I cant live with at all. I go straight after work to the gurudwara but amritvela is different. Any suggestions
  3. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh Ji, I was thinking about starting to wake up during amritvela(3AM in specific). I thought I would go to sleep at around 7PM so I could get a full 8 hours of sleep since that is what experts recommend and I personally don't feel very good when I sleep less than 8 hours. However I recently came across this pangti: Does it mean that I am committing a sin by sleeping 8-9 hours? Now of course guru sahib cannot be wrong and they would never misguide us. Does that mean we should sleep 6 hours or less despite science recommending 7-9 hours worth of sleep? Please don't get me wrong I am not saying guru sahib is wrong and mean no disrespect at all, I ask this because I am a bit confused and require guidance. Thank you.

  5. I want to know what is a good time to get up at amritvela. I'm still in highschool, which makes it difficult selecting the correct time. Any thoughts on this?

    Amrit Vela Coventry

Fateh Does anyone know of any Gurdwara that have Amrit Vela Simran/Kirtan in Coventry? I would like to attend but dont know of any throughout the week. thanks
  7. My nitnem is about 3 hours long. I do panj bania and then some extra paath. However i fall asleep after about 2 hours because of how much effort I put into the paath and now I always fall short of finishing my full nitnem that's I've set for myself. Can someone tell me how to stay awake? Thanks.
  8. WJKK WJKF I have been having amritvela issues ever since I broke my sleep routine. The reason we don't wake up is because oh it's too comfortable in the bed and we just drift off asleep. Some of us wait like 5 minutes in the bed and randomly drift off asleep. Some of us wake up and say 5 minutes and we realize 4 hours have passed. This all comes down to what time we sleep, what we eat before we sleep and the amount of effort we put in to initially waking up, right? It's sort of like that. We have 6 sleep cycles. One in which there is a light sleep and if we wake up during that cycle we will be fully refreshed. So yesterday I came across this app named "Sleep Cycle". I didn't read anything I just set my alarm to 2:30 AM to 3:00 AM. I put the alarm volume high and then slept. 2:30, the alarm starts. I am angry and immediately rush to turn it off (it turns off with one tap). I fall asleep again angry. The snooze time will then determine the movement of when you disable the alarm clock and add on snooze time. When the snooze time is over the alarm comes on again, but this time for some weird reason you will quickly disable the alarm but you will notice you are fully awake. 9. WJKK WJKF Is amritvela actually necessary. I see some people say there is no time to remember maharaj, etc. And some people say that it is not required but recommended. And some people say that it is required.
  10. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh PROBLEM CONTEXT I am living/ working in a country for a few months where there are no Sikhs, let alone a Gurudwara. I've tried contacting via FB etc, there is no sangat near me. My team is nice, we get along fine. I do not at all feel even the slightest temptation to drink alcohol, touch meat (vegertarian options without egg are so scarce here), have relationships with other travellers or remove my body hair (even though it is 50 degrees heat and everyone is wearing singlets and shorts going to the beach). I know this is all Guru Ji's help. 2 years ago I was drinking and vomiting in toilets, having sex with strangers, removing as much body hair as I could and thinking i was a 'spiritual person' I know I've been addicted to alcohol, cannabis, MDMA and the fact I have no desire now isn't something I am capable of- this is Guru Ji's working. THE PROBLEM I'm really starting to miss my Amritvela. I used to so freely wake up, shower, do simran and nitnem and not worry. now I have to worry about so many things with my roommate, especially as she sleeps so late. Even though I don't complain of her sleeping late (perhaps I should, tactfully?) she will say things like "I couldn't sleep because I heard your alarm so I've been up since very early." This makes me feel super guilty. Extra guilty because I'm so TIRED that I don't even remember hearing the alarm myself or turning it off... I DONT WAKE UP AT AMRITVELA. i end up waking up around 5.30-6am so amritvela is long-gone. Since my time being here, I've only once had the chance to do amritvela freely, and that is when everyone had gone out drinking/ clubbing for the night and came home late. When I do my nitnem I don't say it aloud because she is always in the room (and a different faith so i don't want to ever feel like I'm forcing or invading personal space). But man. I miss doing simran aloud- feeling my throat muscles saying Waheguru and closing my eyes so my ears could hear my body speak Waheguru. Be grateful to Waheguru for allowing my body, my lips to be blessed with the beauty of their Naam. The sweetness in my mouth, the warmth of the love but the cool breeze of peace settling in my head, sinking into my heart...anyway Imma get senti real quick lol. So please. I understand my current situation is resultant of karams from this life and previous. But I want help in improving my new karams that I'm (not) earning every moment. How do I wake up at Amritvela? Need help with how to 1. Ask to turn lights off earlier because I can't sleep until ALL lights are off (which doesn't happen till around 11pm) 2. Shower without feeling guilty about making noise and waking her up too early 3. Sing Gurbani aloud. I'm scared I'll get into a bad habit if I keep doing this and become lazy in the future. And any other advice you could offer would be highly appreciated
  11. Is there a specific set bani to read, as I know other maryada require you to do Waheguru nitnem.

Hi there, I'm having problems waking up, for the past few months i am struggling to wake up for amritvela and then waking up late for work, causing me to only listen to my nitem on the pc instead of reading it. I have tried loads of alarm reminders but to no avail i cannot just get out of my bed. I have been doing ardas everyday for me to wake up early but it just isnt happening.. Any help?

  15. WJKK WJKF, I am 14 years old, trying to become a real Sikh. I just wanted to know how other Gursikhs spend their day on Sikhi, such as the time they wake up and the banis they do and when they sleep and everything that happens in your day. I just wanted to see if I can model it. Please also provide the times, so that I know how much time it takes for each part of the schedule. Bul Chuk Maaf Kareo. Thank you very much.

  18. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru ji ki Fateh Need sangat's advise on getting up at Amritvela and then cdoing sansari dhandhe for the rest of the day. I am a kind of person that needs 8 hours sleep(minimum 7:30) otherwise my immunity start getting impacted due to continuous less sleep after 2-3 days. Now I have 9 hours job plus 1.5 hour of travel time which makes it 10.5 hrs(usually from 8:30 am to 7 pm). Sometimes work hours get extended also but that will be an exception. After I reach home, I start Rehraas sahib and by 8 I am free. Dinner is usually by 8:30 and 9. I take at least 1-1.5 hours after amrit vela for sleep. If I want to get up at 3 am for amritvela, I am not able to do that. I tried for couple of days by getting up early, but I get so tired in the afternoon that I am not able to concentrate on job. The problem is not getting up but how to adjust amritvela and nitnem with my schedule so that I am able to get enough sleep and well as don't get tired during job hours. Its almost impossible to get up at 3,4 and even 5 am and continue the day with job activities till 7 pm without break. I know many people can do with 6 hours sleep but unfortunately I haven't got such kirpa from satguru. On weekends, I try to keep amritvela, as I am able to sleep in the afternoon. Please advise as I don't want to lose amritvela day after day on weekday because of sansari acitivities. Dhanwaad Waheguru ji ka khalsa, waheguru ji ki fateh
