  1. Story from last month @proudkaur21 @dharamyudh @Jai Tegang! www.google.com/amp/s/beta.cp24.com/news/2022/8/10/1_6021858.html Well-known Brampton, Ont. real estate agent, media personality attacked outside home Published Aug. 10, 2022 2:48 p.m. ET Updated Aug. 10, 2022 5:49 p.m. ET By Phil Tsekouras CTV News Toronto Multi-Platform Writer A well-known real estate agent and media personality in Brampton, Ont. was viciously attacked in broad daylight in his own driveway by three men, two of whom appeared to be wielding an axe and a machete Peel police said it happened at around 8:15 a.m. on Aug. 4 in the area of Hurontario Street and Mayfield Road. In video obtained by CTV News Toronto, the victim, who has been identified by family as Joti Singh Mann, is seen approaching his white Jeep Wrangler Rubicon. As he is getting settled in the driver’s seat, he is approached by an axe-wielding suspect and slams the door shut. Video shows the suspect swinging his weapon in full force at the driver-side window—breaking the glass on impact and removing the window completely on the second swing. As Singh Mann opens the door, two other suspects enter the frame, one of whom is armed with what appears to be a machete. The three men, dressed in black and wearing masks, are seen savagely attacking the man while they pull him out of his vehicle. Mann attempts to escape his attackers by running behind the vehicle, where he is caught and attacked for another 30 seconds before a woman, who has since been identified by CP24 as Mann’s mother, exits the home to intervene. Once the suspects flee, Mann’s mother can be seen running to her son, who is not seen for the remainder of the video. Emergency crews were called to the scene shortly after the incident. Peel police could not speak to the extent of Mann’s injuries, but said he is currently in stable condition. Mann is a well-known real estate agent in Brampton and frequently appears on his own podcast in which he discusses ongoing issues in India. Speaking to CP24, Brampton Councillor Gurpreet Singh Dhillon said he has visited Mann in hospital and that his injuries include an amputated big toe, the loss of mobility in one of his hands, and that he has received upwards of 25 stitches. “A lot of people are questioning the safety in this city,” Singh Dhillon told CP24, adding that this is the third attack on a Punjabi media personality in Brampton in the last year. In fact, Mann’s mother told CP24 that her son had received a threat while he was recording a recent episode of his podcast. “A lot of people are also questioning the freedom of the media to report and do their commentary. So we’re looking forward to getting more information from police as they do their investigation.” Investigators tell CTV News Toronto that the incident was targeted and not related to a carjacking, but that the motive behind the attack is not known at this time. No arrests have been made. THIS WAS CLEARLY ATTEMPTED MURDER’: BRAMPTON MAYOR In an interview with CP24 Wednesday afternoon, Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown praised Mann’s mother’s bravery while condemning the attack in the strongest terms. “The courage of the mother to face these criminals—this was clearly attempted murder,” Brown said. “She showed incredible courage and her heroic actions probably saved her son’s life." Brown said he is in communication with Peel police and that they have “very strong leads” on the suspects involved. In the meantime, Brown underscored freedom of the press and reiterated that no one should feel intimidated for sharing their ideas. “Whatever topics this podcaster was speaking about, the notion that someone could try through violence to silence them is criminal behavior that can never be tolerated,” Brown said.

Superior Court Justice Kofi Barnes said Dalwinder Singh got angry after discovering that both women were organizing a family gathering to celebrate his and his wife’s son without his knowledge, triggering an argument that spiralled into a “series of horrifying and tragic events.” Within an 11 minute span, Singh stabbed and killed Baljit Thandi, 32, and her 60-year-old mother, Avtar Kaur, Barnes said on Friday, while delivering his verdict and sentencing inside a Brampton courthouse, as Singh looked on from the prisoners box. Both life sentences will run concurrent. “The evidence is overwhelming,” Barnes said. “Mr. Singh’s actions were senseless, shocking and tragic.” When police arrived at the home in the Starhill Crescent and Arabia Gate area at around 10:45 p.m. on the day of the murders, they found Singh holding the baby inside the home, with the lifeless bodies of the infant’s grandmother and mother lying on the bloodied kitchen floor. Thandi sustained more than 70 injuries including several stab wounds to the chest, neck, head and face, according to evidence presented at trial, while Kaur sustained more than 40 such injuries. The court heard that the couple were arguing that night because Singh was angry about the financial burden and pressure from hosting dozens of people for the Lohri festivities his wife was planning without his approval for the following day. Singh told police in a video statement that he “felt betrayed” and insulted by his wife and her mother, and was fed up with his mother-in-law’s interference, over what was supposed to be joyous Lohri festivities to celebrate the birth of the couple’s son. In making its case, the Crown said Singh then attacked the women in an upstairs bedroom of the residence. He forcibly dragged them to the kitchen where the attack continued. Minutes after killing both women and just before his arrest at the family home that night, Singh, then 29, told family friends, via phone, “I killed them both. I couldn’t tolerate anymore. I was tired of their lying.” Singh’s defence counsel sought a verdict of manslaughter suggesting that Singh did not intend to commit murder. The Crown said Singh attempted to cover his tracks by claiming that he was attacked by both women and had to defend himself. He then attempted to clean up and place a knife in his dead wife’s hand and another next to his mother-in-law to support the ruse that they had killed each other, but the wounds sustained by both women show that they were the ones trying to defend themselves. The court heard the couple married in 2016 and hit a rocky patch in their relationship in the summer of 2017, when Singh was charged with assaulting his wife, who had just given birth to their son. At the time of the killings, Singh was in breach of court orders that stipulated that he not be around his wife or live at the residence. 4. Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh! Sangat ji, I have been considering moving away from the UK. Mainly just had enough of the place. I am alone. No family at all nor am I married. I am not educated either. Has anyone got any experience on the emmigration process for someone in the UK wanting to move to Canada who may be or has been in a similar situation as myself? I was there this time last year and saw that there is a lot of Sangat there. It's clean, peaceful and generally seems like a great move especially for someone that just wants to get up and leave everything in the UK behind. I had the chance to speak to someone there who has moved from London and is working in banking/finance but he actually married a Canadian Singhni and was under 30 years of age when he applied for his PR (permanent residence) so it was a little easier for him. Any ideas, feedback, information or suggestions would be much appreciated. Akaal!

    Halal food

Guru Granth Sahib forbids eating of halal or any meat killed according to ritual beliefs. Muslims have successfully lobbied to get most of the restuarants even in Sikh populated areas to serve only Halal food. However, it hurts me to see keshdhari Sikhs sitting in Shwarma place and other Pakistani joints happily eating Halal food. When you talk to them, they plead ignorance. These are the same Sikhs who tend to lecture other mona Sikhs about keeping kesh. Why are they not following the tenants and protesting about the creeping Halal everywhere? Our school where 50% of the students are Sikh now serve Halal hot dogs because of only 5% Muslims. None of the Sikhs care about this. Muslims are using Halal certification to build mosques in every street and actively convert people, but use Sikhs are happy eating Biryani! When I bring this up in Gurdwara they say we should only be vegetarian, when all the committee members eat meat and close to 90% Sikhs are non-veg (also Gurbani does not prohibit meat). I am so confused at this hypocrisy. Anyone agree with me?
