  1. I was asking this question because of the assumption that morality is subjective, (except Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji message). Also, Gurbani also says "ਏਕ ਨੂਰ ਤੇ ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਉਪਜਿਆ ਕਉਨ ਭਲੇ ਕੋ ਮੰਦੇ ॥੧॥ एक नूर ते सभु जगु उपजिआ कउन भले को मंदे ॥१॥ Ėk nūr ṯe sabẖ jag upji▫ā ka▫un bẖale ko manḏe. ||1|| From the One Light, the entire universe welled up. So who is good, and who is bad? ||1|" (Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Ang 1349), also I've heard from many Kathas that good Karams don't cancel bad Karams, (only Naam and Bani can do that, with Gurprassad). So is there any difference from good or bad Karma?
  2. wjkk wjkf, I want to know does anyone had experience with getting pregnancy / baby when doctors daid its not possible and couple did naam /simran / gurbani and they got baby. I want to know its really possible with naam /simran now a days. This happend in Guru sahib time but i want to know anyone did themselves. I now feel that if something is not in your Paralabadh / Karms then its not possible does not matter how much naam /simran person does

    Sikhs And Dating?

Can anyone tell me exactly why Sikhs can't date other Sikhs? (If you are from the same religion it shouldn't be a problem). Also if we keep our Rehats during the relationship, wouldn't it help find a suitable partner in the future. Keeping the basic rules of no Adultery and kissing and all that junk. Also I'd like either Rehat Maryada or Gurbani views on this, if it even mentions it.
  4. I was asking this because I wanted to know why Vaheguru sometimes doesn't listen to Ardas? (And other times does) even though he can hear the Ardas and knows what's going on.
  5. PM underlines message of harmony on Guru Nanak Jayanti Guru Nanak Jayanti also known as Gurpurab & Prakash Utsav marks the birthday of the first Sikh Guru Guru Nanak Press Trust of India | New Delhi November 25, 2015 Last Updated at 16:00 IST Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at the Gurbani Recital on the occasion of the 547th Birth Anniversary of Guru Nanak Devji at Rashtrapati Bhavan Cultural Centre in New Delhi. Photo: PTI On the occasion of Guru Nanak's birthday, Prime MinisterNarendra Modi today underlined the message of harmony and compassion propagated by the founder of Sikhism, a message that assumes significance in the midst of "intolerance" debate. "On Guru Nanak Jayanti, my greetings to everyone. Guru Nanak Dev's message of service, compassion and harmony inspire eternally," Modi tweeted. The Prime Minister's message assumes significance in view of the "intolerance" debate, which has been further fueled by film star Aamir Khan's remarks that he was "alarmed" by a number of incidences and his wife Kiran Rao had wondered if they should move out of India. Guru Nanak Jayanti also known as Gurpurab and Prakash Utsav marks the birthday of the first Sikh Guru Guru Nanak. It is one of the most sacred festivals in Sikhism and is celebrated by Hindus also with equal fervour. On Guru Nanak Jayanti, my greetings to everyone. Bir Ras?

What exactly is Bir Ras suppose to do? Does it make people stronger than they are physically suppose to be? (If the GurSikhs hadn't had Gurbani or something, it would be very hard to face an army a lot bigger). What I'm trying to say is what's the difference between Nam Ras?
  8. Can anyone explain what Chand Di Vaar is about? I tried looking at the meanings but it was still hard. (I appreciate anyone's assistance). I also posted this on Dasam Granth.
  9. I was wondering what the length of Rehras Sahib was especially since different people end it at different times.

Does anyone know how we can wake-up early at Amrit Vela?
  11. How would you describe Bapu Surat Singh Ji's Situation with gurbani? ਜਉ ਤਉ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਖੇਲਣ ਕਾ ਚਾਉ ॥ If you desire to play this game of love with Me, ਸਿਰੁ ਧਰਿ ਤਲੀ ਗਲੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਆਉ ॥ Then step onto My Path with your head in hand. ਇਤੁ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਪੈਰੁ ਧਰੀਜੈ ॥ When you place your feet on this Path, ਸਿਰੁ ਦੀਜੈ ਕਾਣਿ ਨ ਕੀਜੈ ॥੨੦॥ Give Me your head, and do not pay any attention to public opinion. ||20||

  14. Fateh . . . The Banis which are in the nitnem are in the Guru Granth Sahib ji Japji Sahib, Anand Sahib, Rehras Sahib, and Kirtan Sohila. When we recite Japji Sahib, and Anand Sahib we also read the Salok at the end “Pavan Guru Pani Pita….” We also read this Salok at various other times such as Bhog, and reading of many banis. 1. Why do we read this salok at the end, as it does not follow the way it is in Sri Guru Granth Sahib? 2. For Kirtan Sohila some places such as Nanaksar read the salok, but then why do we not read this at the end of Rehras Sahib? Just curious to find out… Appreciate guidance. Fateh..
  15. Dear Sadh Sangat Ji, I just realised that I was using apps - Gurbani Nirvaan and Gurbani Ujagar which use English translation from Dr Sant singh Khalsa. There is a particular line which was with the wrong meaning. However there are other lines which have not been translated correctly. Please kindly inform all your relatives and friends. Refer to this thread. http://www.sikhsangat.com/index.php?/topic/77736-is-this-translation-correct-please-explain-whywhy-not/ and also ਸੁਣਿ ਗਲਾ ਆਕਾਸ ਕੀ ਕੀਟਾ ਆਈ ਰੀਸ ॥ सुणि गला आकास की कीटा आई रीस ॥ Suṇ galā ākās kī kītā ā▫ī rīs. 1. Hearing of the etheric realms, even worms long to come back home. ਸੁਣਿ ਗਲਾ ਆਕਾਸ ਕੀ ਕੀਟਾ ਆਈ ਰੀਸ ॥ सुणि गला आकास की कीटा आई रीस ॥ Suṇ galā ākās kī kītā ā▫ī rīs. 2. By hearing celestial things even worms (the vile) wish to emulate. The No 1 states that worms wish to come home whereas Gurbani clearly states the word riis.... which means to copy. This means that the first meaning is wrong. We need to sort this out as this is a major problem of us and our youth getting the wrong meanings of Gurbani. The wrong translations have been used and distributed far and wide with the use of apps. These need to be corrected. Only God knows how many other wrong translations of the bani have been done. Please be alert and inform as many people as possible especially the people who make those apps.

  19. VJKK VJKF There are two quotes that I once heard; I can't seem to remember them or find them. If anyone can point me in the right direction that would be great: 1) A quote about Guru Nanak Dev Ji being a lion and roaring, I recall that the word Singh is used to describe Guru Nanak Dev Ji. 2) A quite about how is doesn't matter if a Sikh is in a Mosque or Mandir or any other place of worship as long as he has Waheguru inside of him he cannot be affected by anything, or words to that affect. I'm aware that this is a rather obscure post but, they have been on my mind so if Sangat could shed any light that would be great! Bhul Chuk Maaf VJKK VJKF
  20. On 8th March, world celebrates women's day. Sikh faith was among the first major world religions to imply that women were equals to men. Guru Nanak proclaimed the equality of men and women and all Guru Sahiban allowed women to take full part in all the activities of Sikh worship and practice. 21. Today i was reading topics like sri sukhmani sahib ji for 40 days, millionaire mantra etc in gupt section. SHOCKED!!!! People want to get things..yes they are right but by only reciting while having love for akaal purakh...& not like its secret formula for this..for that... Do like this like that with that..again i read 1 q. Saying can i do paath without covering my head in office...& some like can i be rich thru this.. Some people who believe in im manglik & want my lost love..what!!??!! People do vehem param sometimes little...but what finding love .....?!?! Doing paath to remember almighty before doing anything is ok..in very difficult situation is ok ...in thanking is ok..doing ardaas is ok..to get success is ok...but only with god's love..one more i read was " guru ji always gave me.whenever i did ardaas(ok..good) but this time i wanted to have baby boy..so i did ardaas..but in ultra scan baby is a girl...guru ji didnt answer my ardaas but i know guru ji has never refused me ..so he now meant what to do next.. i mean what!!?!.. This is wrong ... I myself is maha paapi person to be honest...i dont have any right to point finger at something... But every1 must know that this is not right... i remember --- " tuk dam krari jo karo hazar hazoor khudaye" when with just one breath of reciting waheguru ji strongly & deep in love ..waheguru ji will be present in front us...( plz i beg correct me if im wrong) Then why this.. how to tell people about this in a right way? Ur views this is right or wrong? What about sharda puran granth? I remember n30singh saying its like luring kid at first with candy then to make it a habit & them making it right( i think he is right ..but its diff. To understand and its human nature for getting things they want but more & more,so they will never stop for this & never be on right track(to recite gurbani to be one with akaal purakh waheguru ji)) Also... Jotan jgaya karo shaheedan sahib te chupahere dya karo har aetwar.,sukh lo ehne paath ..fir jo mango milega ...ok thats right but where is the love, there is only greed, then shukrana after getting success, then ok lets get to back to normal life..( even i do such things ..its human nature....but i try to control whenever i remember what i am doing is wrong..as said i am maha papi) Waheguru ji is kirre nu muaf karna ji ... I accept what i did was wrong & and i.will try my best to finish my greed ..( no haume ji..muafi ji..) But in topics i mentioned its way too different... what u say? Note -- i wrote so that ever1 including me must not do wrong..( i will try my best .. to solve it) Imp-- what i want to convey is that there's a line b/w getting things with greed and getting things with love..& asking for things which r right & not blindly) ..also understand gurbani ji ( koi galti ta muafi ji) GURU KIRPA KARN JI! UPPAR JO LIKHYA HAI OH BAHUT OKHA HAI LIKHNA,SAMAJNA,TE BAHUT VIVADIT VI HO SAKDA HAI...I TRIED MY BEST IT TO BE.NEUTRAL.. BHULAN DI KHIMA JI! WAHEGURU MUAF KARN JI SAB TE MEHR PARYA HATH RAKHN JI SARYAN NU SMAT BHAKSHNA JI WAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA! WAHEGURU JI KI FATEH! SRI AKAAL SAHAI! ( plz read all)

  23. Recently I received a New Years greeting card through the post from my local Gurdwara. Inside and outside of the card contained Gurbani. For those of you that may not be aware, any Gurbani that is written down whether it be a piece of paper or a greeting card needs to be treated with the same respect you would have for a Gutka Sahib. Would you ever put your Gutka Sahib on the floor? The organisation that printed the card is called Sikh Missionary Society. I contacted them on the phone and to be frank the gentleman I spoke to didn’t seem to understand the beadbi that’s happening or seem too bothered about it. Their reply was we’ve been doing it for twenty years and then went on to say they print Gurbani everywhere. In the end he told me to write to them. Below I have included the email I sent them and I urge every single one of you to get in touch with them to ensure no further disrespect continues towards our Guru. Feel free to copy this letter or write your own but please contact them if you can. The more of us that do will increase the chances of putting a stop to this. Sikh Missionary Society 8-10 Featherstone Road Southall, Middlesex UB2 5AA Email: info@sikhmissionarysociety.org Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh, I'm writing to you in regards to the New Years greeting cards that are printed by your organisation. I received a card recently which had Guru Gobind Singh's Gurbani printed inside and Guru Nanak's Bani on the front. Once these cards have been printed and are sent to the postal service they are going to be handled without any respect for the Gurbani inside and ultimately end up on the floor of each recipient when they are posted. To have any material which contains Gurbani on the floor or mishandled is gravely disrespecting our Guru. I would also like to point out that these cards will most likely be placed in a drawer after the holiday season and again there is no guarantee that the recipient will treat them appropriately. I appreciate you would like to spread the message of Gurbani and share it's beautiful message and this can still be done. I propose that you use a Romanised version to write the transliteration of Gurbani with the english meanings. That way the message of Gurbani will still be received and there will no beadbi of our Gurbani. I look forward to hearing from you.
  24. When Ram Rai, the eldest son of Mata Krishen Kaur and Guru Har Rai Ji, changed a word of a Gurbani tukh to appease (the usurper of the Mughal Raj) Arungzeb, Guru Har Rai Ji excommunicated him from Sikhi. Baba Ram Rai was Guru Sahib’s own son yet he had disrespected Gurbani which is considered the highest form of direspect in the Sikh Faith. Baani Guru, Guru Hai Baani. BUT we forget one important thing, Baba Ram Rai was punished so severely because he KNOWINGLY did the wrong thing. Being Guru Sahib’s son he was well aware of the crime he was committing and therefore it was a choice. Sadly majority of our community today is ignorant of our faith and it’s history. So how then can we hold individuals responsible when they disrespect Gurbani and thereby the True Guru unknowingly? Our response must be different because the Guru is just and never angry toward those who commit a mistake unknowingly. It is counterproductive to curse the bride and say “she deserves to rot in hell” or that “she is a stupid <banned word filter activated> who should die”. This only perpetuates ignorance and division within our community. We must as a community take responsibility and educate ourselves and others to make sure incidents like this never occur again. As for incidents regarding to Anand Karaj, Anand Karaj is a very big commitment that we have dumbed down to “the Punjabi Marriage Ceremony” and by doing so we have turned it into a ritual, something often the bride and groom do without true knowledge. The Anand Karaj is a commitment ceremony that binds the souls of the couple, you are not only committing to each other but making the HUGE commitment of accepting Guru Sahib as your Guru, to follow “his” teachings and keep “him” in the center of your new married life. Each part of the Lavaan gives you a different teaching which you hear out while you revolve around the Guru like the earth revolves around the sun and you commit to that teaching, saying you fully agree with it and will embody it the moment you bow your head before the Guru and Matha Tek. The “pheray” or parkarma around Guru Granth Sahib was not always part of the ceremony, it was added and is merely mirroring your commitment. The palla shows the connecting of two souls, you walk around Guru Sahib to show “he” is the center of your life. The reason walking side by side doesn’t work is because you both will not be equidistance from Guru Sahib, one person will be further. The woman walking behind the man is not inequality because it simply mirrors a Gurbani tukh. Also in the greater context of Anand Karaj one can see inequality is not an issue. As I stated before, we are viewing our religion through a western perspective without the knowledge and historical context of our religion. Furthermore, another way to look at in a western perspective is “Behind every man is a strong woman…and boom now it’s liberating. I would like to state once again that ignorance is the root of all the confusion and division in our community. If it pains you to see Guru Granth Sahib disrespected then take it upon yourself to educate others of Gurbani and Sikh History. Do your research so you can know about the faith and institution you claim to be a part of. I would like to end this by saying once again, disrespect to Gurbani and thereby the true Guru is the highest crime. I will leave you with one other example of how much respect our Gurus had for Gurbani. They were always stating that they are nothing, Gurbani, the word of Waheguru is everything, worship and follow Gurbani not their physical forms. Baani Guru, Guru Hai Baani. When Guru Arjun Dev Ji, the 5th Guru was bringing Aad Granth (half of Guru Granth Sahib organized into a saroop) to Amritsar, Baba Buddha ji carried Aad Granth on his head while Guru Arjun Dev Ji did chaur seva (waving of peacock feathers). This shocked the sangat that was walking alongside Guru Sahib because chaur seva was something that was only done to the Guru or to Kings and yet here was the Guru doing chaur seva to what appeared to be a book! Then when they ended the daily events at Amritsar, the Sikhs asked Guru Arjun Dev Ji where they should put Aad Granth for the night. Guru Sahib responded, Aad Granth will rest on my bed, I will sleep on the floor beside it. OUR GURUS SHOWED TIME AND TIME AGAIN THAT GURBANI IS THE HIGHEST. Today we have largely forgotten this and disregard Guru Granth Sahib, we neglect our Guru by remaining ignorant of “his” teachings.
