  1. Why are so many people against it nowadays? I dont see much controversial about this, other than if some people claim that this is the only way to recite complete swaroop Guru Sahib, or those who say it "enhances" the effect of shabad which would imply that akhand paath is inferior. Unless someone is paying a paathi to do one for something in particular (same thing happens with akhand paaths) and they dont even listen to it and thus treat sri guru granth sahib as a wish genie of mantras; otherwise I dont anything offensive if a person does it themselves or at least with shardaa. Why do some people regard this method of gurbani recitation as beadbi? WaHeguru jio.

  3. I have full faith in Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji as a Guru because Guru Gobind Singh Ji gave “Gaddi” to Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. But, this belief is based upon the “Saakhi’s” stories, I heard from preachers and modern historians. They say Guru ji gave gaddi at Nanded (Hazur Sahib) in 1708. The point is where is ir written? In which authentic contemporary or old histoey books? Today by chance I came across the Punjabi and English Translation of “Gur Sobha” book by Senapati, a contemporary poet & historian in the court of Guru Gobind Singh Ji which suggests otherwise. I suggest everybody to read this book in Punjabi and English with translation which ever is convenient to you. Please read these pages particularly because they are eye opener. Especially Page no. 320, 21,22, 23. Here is the link for you to read and download book https://www.sikhinstitute.org/sri_gursobha.pdf On these pages it is very clear that Guru Ji did not give “Gaddi” to anyone; either to Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji or Khalsa panth. I think we all should strive hard to know the truth about succession story from old history books like Gur Partap Suraj, Gur Bilas etc. and not believe in concocted stories by our preachers and so called modern historians.

    Your Holy Book

Hi I am interested in how your Holy Book was written. Also that it is all meant to be chanted and sung i think? In contrast the Bible was written by many writers all inspired by the Holy Spirit whom we believe helps us to understand it once our minds and hearts belong to Christ. Jesus himself never wrote a word. Though the Bible is not sung, the Psalms especially have been used to make hymns. For me a huge part of worship is hymns, which i use also as prayers. When i read my Bible, i feel the power and holiness of God moving my soul and feeding me. Just as i am sure you do. We all know God's Word is power and light. But i spend time looking at the origins of how the Bible was written. It interests me very much how your Holy Scriptures were put together. I love the way you revere your Guru Granth Sahib. That it is your 11th Guru. We treat our Bible quite casually! I've got several copies in the house, small one in my handbag and two on Kindle. To us it is the Words that matter not the medium in which they are contained. I bet you think that is awful? So please tell me about your scriptures and how you study them. Can you each have your own copy at home?
  5. Has anyone read the full Sri Guru Granth Sahib? If they did where is the best english translation available to read? Also how long does it take to read? ie how many pages are there?
  6. I have a question about the Shabad referring to God as, " Your eyes are so beautiful, and Your teeth are delightful. Your nose is so graceful, and Your hair is so long." If God is formless, then why are these characteristics being referenced? Pardon me for my ignorance.
  7. There are discussions going on in some threads at the moment about whether Sheikh Farid ji was a Muslim. I would like to hold these discussions in one place, partially because they are extraneous to the thread titles in those other threads, and we should let those threads discuss the specific items that the thread creators wanted to originally discuss: http://sikhsangat.com/index.php?/topic/80863-human-rights-in-islam/ http://sikhsangat.com/index.php?/topic/80838-why-muslims-should-never-be-trusted/ I propose that Sheikh Farid ji was not a Muslim at then end, whatever he may have been at some time. I started off with: S4NGH then responded with And I followed up with:

  9. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh Ji. I have a question and I hope someone can guide me to the right way: If I need to read bani from Guru Granth Sahib ji, gutka sahib ji or if I need to touch any holy photos or holy material(example periodically cleaning the worship space), do I need to take complete shower and wear clean clothes and then do the needful? Isn't it sufficient If I just wash my hands properly after using the toilet and then touch gutka sahib, guru granth sahib ji or any holy photo or any holy material.

  17. What is the meaning of word ਰਾਜ ਜੋਗੁ (raj yog/yoga) for Gursikh as defination from vedanta school of thoughts or Guru Granth Sahib. 18. DHAN DHAN GURU GOBIND SINGH SAHIB JEE. DHAN DHAN GURU GRANTH SAHIB JEE. DHAN DHAN DASAM GRANTH SAHIB JEE. DHAN DHAN SARBLOH GRANTH SAHIB JEE. DHAN DHAN BHAI MANI SINGH JEE. DHAN DHAN BHAI SUKHA SINGH JEE. DHAN DHAN BHAI MEHTAB SINGH JEE. DHAN DHAN PUNJAB DIGITAL LIBRARY JEE. Further proof that Dasam Granth Sahib (as a large Granth) was in existance during Guru Gobind Singh Jee's life (or right after) and that Dasam Granth Sahib was around way before Bhai Sukha Singh Jee and Bhai Mehtab Singh Jee took care of Massa Rangarh. Also this is further proof that Dasam Granth is not created by British or RSS or Nirmalas or Mahants or whatever conspiracy theory people try and make up. There are MANY proofs of Dasam Granth before 1800 and even before 1750, so all of those conspiracy theories go out of the window. I find it very interesting that these saroops are found in Maharastar and Aandhra Pradesh......the same areas where the missionaries are going out of their way to do katha and seminars and speak against Hemkunt Sahib and Dasam Granth Sahib, etc. These historical granths were found in Pinds (villages). I have always been very against the missionaries' "Pind Sambhaalo (take care of your village)" initiative, (where they go into your village and do 'parchaar' for a certain period of time in order to 'save' Sikhi). These findings makes things look even more suspicious. Hmmm.... Let us support organizations like Punjab Digital Library, who are trying to preserve our history and traditions...rather than destroy it like the missionaries are attempting to do. This is also further proof that we need to respect and embrace other religions and communities, as these people have a lot of hidden treasures of the Sikhs. Not just in India, but in Pakistan, Middle East, possibly china, possibly russia, possibly eurpoean countries, etc as well. I urge anyone who has a piece of Sikh history (or anything related to it), to contact Punjab Digital Library so that it can be digitalized and shared with everyone. Let's stop keeping these types of treasures to ourselves, and let everyone enjoy the Amrit Ras and Darshan. One fine example is of this is a family in the UK: http://www.sikhsangat.com/index.php?/topic/69908-bhai-mani-singh-wrote-arth-pothis-16vol-uk/?hl=%2Bbhai+%2Bmani+%2Bsingh It is a historical FACT that Bhai Mani Singh Jee did Katha of Gurbani to Sangat and taught them correct meanings. So it is very exciting to hear that there is written copies of the katha/explanations as well. It is very sad however that they are not being revealed for digitalization. However, in the meantime, let us enjoy and celebrate these new discoveries! I know I went off on a tangent and only talked about Dasam Granth Sahib Jee. These findings are great for research on Guru Granth Sahib Jee as well. As many manuscripts and Granths were destroyed in the Sikh Reference Library fire, these are crucial findings for Sikh history. These findings will further give scholars resources to examine and compare to other historical Granths. Sikhi is not old, let's stop pretending like it is. 250, 300 and 350 year old Granths go back to Guru Gobind Singh Jee's lifetime or right after his lifetime (which is still during Baba Deep Singh Jee's lifetime, Bhai Mani Singh Jee's lifetime, Baba Banda Singh Bahadar's lifetime, etc). Amazing!
  19. http://www.1guk.com/projects/1984-awareness/ In recent weeks the Sikh Nation have received shocking news that the Shromani Gurdwara Prabandak Committee (SGPC) wish to do Saskaar of (to cremate) the Saroop of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj which was shot in June 1984. These steps have caused uproar within the Sikh community who are strongly against such action. The Saroop is invaluable due to the significant history it represents. In recent years cremation of Old handwritten Gutkeh Sahibs, Pothian (Panj Granthi, Das Granthis), Saroops and historical texts have been cremated in high volume. Before our eyes the history of the Sikh Nation is being attacked and destroyed, leaving us with very little proof of our real history. It is well known fact that Sri Akaal Takht Sahib was looted in 1984, with great losses of rare texts and relics from Guru Ji’s period. Sevadaars from 1G UK were able to obtain three rare images of the aforementioned Saroop which SGPC wish to cremate. These unreleased images show the Saroop was directly shot at and the bullet hole still remains. A harsh memory of 1984… www.1guk.com info@1guk.com www.facebook.com/oneGseva The 1G Page!
  20. Gurfateh Jio, Sangat ji I have a question. I have a pothi at home that used to be a part of a set of 2 pothi's. The one I have is the second half of the guru granth sahib. I would like to start reading from the guru granth sahib more frequently than I have been and was wondering If I purchased the first half in pothi form how would I keep the two pothis? Of course gurbani deserves the ultimate respect but if both pothi's are under one roof would I have to do parkash of guru granth sahib ji? I don't have the discipline for that yet, don't know the maryada completely either and in not wanting to make a mistake I thought I would ask for advice first. Das
  21. Sabsai upar gur shabad beechar || Paramount is contemplation on Guru's word From my experience 99.9% of sikhs show zero interest in study of the maharaj (not talking about recitation as in sehaj path) , I think this ignorance and neglect of the core gurmat knowledge is root cause of all problems in sikh samaaj today.
