  1. In the year 1510 AD, Taajudin Naqshbandi, a Persian/Arabic writer met Guru Nanak Dev ji during his journey through the Middle East. For the next two years, Taajudin lived with the Guru and kept a detailed eyewitness account in a manuscript titled Siyahto Baba Nanak Fakir. After taking a leave from Guru ji, Taajudin deposited the manuscript in a library in Medina. In the year 1927, Mushtaq Hussein a young man from Kashmir, while studying as a moulvi in Medina came across Taajudin's manuscript. The manuscript changed Mushtaq's life, and he converted to Sikhism and and went on to become famous as Sant Syed Prithipal Singh. While in the Middle East, Mushtaq visited several places built in the memory of the Guru and spoke to Arabs who were still Guru ji's Sikhs. The book ‘Taajudin’s Diary’ is based on the unpublished autobiography of Sant Ji. The book retraces the transformational journeys of Taajudin and Mushtaq Hussein following in the footsteps of the great Guru. This remarkable must-read book references historical documents and monuments little-known in Sikhism. The appendices in this book also contain information on lesser-known travels of Guru Ji in Nepal and Himalayas. You can get a PDF version of the book Taajudin’s Diary by emailing to ijSingh6002@gmail.com or by downloading from the link below: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1RZarO1zbeiH7OmgxJ1pjTJ-Z4LN38PuJ
  2. For some sikhi is not dependant on kesh , however the truth is Guru Nanak has done parchaar on this subject , a few reminders
  3. Guru nanak was stuanchly against pictures / idols but irony is today we have pictures of guru nanak created purely through imagination and people standing before them with folded hands - babaji solve my this problem or that , His core message was never ask for anything matereliastic and live through good and bad times with equanimity , if anything hard times are what get us closer to waheguru (dukh daroo sukh rog bhaya , ja sukh taam na hoye) Nanak bolan jhakna dukh chad m...angiye sukh || dukh sukh doye dar kapre pehre jaye manukh || Jithe bolan hariye tithe changi chup || Instead of focusing on guru ji's message we have reduced him to a mere Devta - devi deva poojiye kya mango kya dey . He did the very hard udasis risking his life, sacrificing time that he could have spent in comfort with his family to teach us how to live, but we are only interested in some miraculous favor out of his pictures - the message is too boring for us - we are too busy with facebook, tv, gossip, internet , movies etc - Mat vich ratan jawahar manik je ek gur ki sikh sunee
  4. WJKK WJKF I was reading some gurbani quotes on feminism etc and one quote stuck out: jit jameh raajaan Guru Nanak empowered women by saying "from her kings are born" and previously within this Bhangti Maharaj empowers women through the experience of men, noting that when a man's wife dies he seeks another woman so he is bound to woman. During the times of Guru Nanak these words were revolutionary... but now is it not fair to say that empowering woman through powerful men is somewhat outdated? And therefore should we read GGSJ in the context of when it was written. Bhul Chuk Maaf karo

Quote from Guru Nanak Dev Ji

Is it true that Guru Nanak Dev Ji said this- 'before becoming a muslim a sikh a hindu or a christian let's become a human first" It's like I want this to be true causes it shows the equality and love we have
  6. Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh! (NOT INSULTING ANY INDIVIDUAL KHATRIS OF MODERN DAY!) Something Daas wanted to know was from the time of before Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, why didn't the Punjabi Khatris defend Punjab from all the invaders that conquered Punjab, like the other Kshatriya Clans from outside Punjab, for example the Rajputs kept their idea of protecting their land as Kshatriya clans, so what prevented the Punjabi Khatris from doing the same all the years before Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji? On the one hand Bhai Gurdas mentions the clans of Bedis and Sodhis in extremely high respect, (for having the form of Vaheguru being born in them, not for merely being Khatri), but on the other side, "ਦਾਨ ਖੜਗ ਮੰਤੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਸਲਾਹੀ ॥੧੦॥ Daanu Kharhagu Mantu Bhagati Salaahee ॥10॥ दानु खड़गु मंतु भगति सलाही ॥१०॥ The real khatris is he who gives charitably, wears arms and remembers God with loving devotion." (Bhai Gurdas Vaaran 8 Pauri 10), so what exactly was there job if they didn't give their Shastars and doing Bhagti? Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh!
  7. Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh! Something Daas wanted to know was how exactly did people start believing in Ram Singh as a Guru, when he himself said these statements: http://www.namdharitruth.info/history/baba-ram-singh-sikh-of-sri-guru-granth-sahib/ Also from what Daas has learned about him he was somewhat more interested in helping the path of Gurmat than to divide from it, (in fact from some Gurmukhs Daas has heard that he was some Mahapurukh who just happened to get his teachings corrupted). Many of the first Naamdharis of Ram Singh also considered Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji as Satguru, and Ram Singh even said that he was a servant to the Guru. Even giving Amrit to at least 1000000 people according to the Khalsa Panth. So why did people start believing he was the light of the Guru? Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh!
  8. I'm sure most of you know the story of Bhai Lalo and living by honest means. I am trying to figure out which historical country it all occurred in, because I want to study the economy there (since Guru Nanak ji identified that Malik Bhago exploited Bhai Lalo's labour). This event occurred in Guruji's first udhasi, so it occurred between 1500-1506 in Saidpur (modern-day Eminabad, Pakistan). It couldn't have been part of the Mughal Empire since that didn't exist until ~20 years later. Can any of you figure out which historical country this took place in, because I'm lost?
  9. *BENTI TO ADMIN TO PIN TOPIC* ਜੋਤਿ ਰੂਪਿ ਹਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਕਹਾਯਉ ॥ जोति रूपि हरि आपि गुरू नानकु कहायउ ॥ Joṯ rūp har āp gurū Nānak kahā▫ya▫o. The Embodiment of Light, the Lord Himself is called Guru Nanak. (Ang 1408 Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji) Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh! Before the true king Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji had come it was a time when much of the world and humanity was lost; people were heavily divided on the basics of tyranny and causing separations based on caste and the various religions with much manmat. It was because of Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, even before he revealed himself to all of humanity in an open-way, that those who were known as the 15 Bhagats and many others before that who had bhagti could have finally been saved, (in Nirankar form). The time for Vaheguru to come was becoming very much needed especially since he couldn't have sent another "messenger" to bring humanity to him, rather he himself needed to come from Sach Khand, (he is everywhere and will always be everywhere; however, this time he needed a special form). Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji before revealing himself in 1469 had also been the one to lead all the Sants to Vaheguru and had given the Gurprassad through his Nirankar form. Once he had finally revealed himself to all of humanity on 1469, it was a joyous day; he was not born; but rather he had come: he had come with laughter, (because he had not a single bit of negative karma), instead of tears and many things which lead to hope and grace for all. The first one to have discovered the coming of the Lord Vaheguru, was Bebe Nanaki, who had prayed in constant times just to get Vaheguru to come and become her brother in human-form. Next Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji had to teach the "worldly teachers", who couldn't have taught him anything in the Spiritual Realm nor the physical realm; he freed the sinners who previously had been corrupted to the point of shattered death and had finally brought the sinners into the Saints of the society of Vaheguru. He was loved by all and hated by none, (eventually), this was all due to the fact that he could not be wrong. He brought the people from various religions, to instead of fighting among themselves; unite them to Vaheguru, traveled as far as other worlds, and various other special places no human could expect to go to. Unlike many other "messengers", he not only saved humans, but also broke the burden of life and death to animals and plants; (even the single-celled organisms that he wanted to free at his time, were saved)." ਜਿਸੁ ਪਾਪੀ ਕਉ ਮਿਲੈ ਨ ਢੋਈ ॥ जिसु पापी कउ मिलै न ढोई ॥ Jis pāpī ka▫o milai na dẖo▫ī. That sinner, who finds no protection anywhere- ਸਰਣਿ ਆਵੈ ਤਾਂ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਈ ॥੧॥ सरणि आवै तां निरमलु होई ॥१॥ Saraṇ āvai ṯāʼn nirmal ho▫ī. ||1|| if he comes seeking Your Sanctuary, then he becomes immaculate and pure. ||1||" (Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Ang 1141). Eventually, Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji had found the Ang to him, in the form of Bhai Lehna, (Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Angad Dev Ji), in various historical texts it mentions Bhai Lehna being tested for the Guruship; however, he was particularly born to be the succeeding light to Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Various instances were made where Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji had shown to all of humanity why Bhai Lehna was the true successor to his kingdom, rather than Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji's own sons. The evidence to this was while each and every single human had failed; only Bhai Lehna had stayed loyal and the most difficult of times. Finally, Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji turned Bhai Lehna into the second Guru, calling him his Ang, (part) and renaming him into Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Angad Dev Ji: Bhai Gurdas writes of this glorious moment in time as: "ਥਾਪਿਆ ਲਹਿਣਾ ਜੀਵਦੇ ਗੁਰਿਆਈ ਸਿਰਿ ਛਤ੍ਰ ਫਿਰਾਇਆ। Daapiaa Lahinaa Jeenvaday Guriaaee Siri Chhatr Dhiraaiaa. थापिआ लहिणा जींवदे गुरिआई सिरि छत्र फिराइआ । During his life time he waved the canopy of Guru seat on the head of Lahina(Guru Angad) and merged his own light into him. 5 ਵਾਰਾਂ ਭਾਈ ਗੁਰਦਾਸ : ਵਾਰ ੧ ਪਉੜੀ ੪੫ ਪੰ. ੫" (Bhai Gurdas Vaaran Vaar 1 Pauri 45). The disciple was now the one to sit on the throne of Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, and everyone now saw Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Angad Dev Ji as the light of Vaheguru himself. This eventually continued till the giving of the Gurgaddi to Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji as the last form of the Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, during that time many changes happened in society. Examples include, the creation of Khalsa; the sacrifices of the Gurus in their lifetimes with Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Arjun Dev Ji and Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur giving their lives for Sikhi and doing so without any fear. During this time humanity had finally understood basic values that were not possible before the coming of Vaheguru, such as the idea of equality and the need for Langar to help all of humanity, not just who became the future disciples of Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. In his 8th form, he had given his life to prevent the mass smallpox on the lesser people's. (Guru Sahib is greater than all of humanity). The Guru in future forms had also protected the down-ridden from being persecuted and decided to bring shastars as a way to protect the saints, and made the Dharam Yudh that humanity had longed needed. In present day many people have benefited a lot regardless whether they are Sikhs or not from the coming of Vaheguru on Earth. Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh!

    3ho?

Why hasn't anyone stopped 3HO from doing all of their manmat? If someone is new to Sikhi wouldn't that soul get permanently lost or extremely delayed in their journey to Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji's message going to these people?
  11. I been viewing a few clips of jagraj singh from basics of sikhi and he mentions in a few videos that Guru Nanak was God? When he debates muslims, which I believe to be a fundamental mistake. Also in my view it is a totally wrong approach to take with a muslim cos they automatically get disinterested when someone is associating God with "partners" as it is the biggest sin in islam according to them its called "shirk". From my understanding of gurbani and sikh scriptures Guru Nanak Dev Ji was not God and he even states he is a servant / slave of God and it is God whom he worships and sings his glory of. So why is Jagraj mentioning that Guru Ji was God? It totally contradicts Guru Ji himself and the very notion of core Sikh beliefs that there is only 1 God. We are not Christians that believe Jesus is 3 in 1 where a physical God can suffer pain, die and get resurrected yet worship another God. Or Muslims who believe in a God sitting on a throne above the 7 skies outside his creation. We believe that God (consciousness) resides in every soul, every living being and outside it out in the realms of existence. So I'm wondering why is jagraj / basics of sikhi coming to this illogical conclusion?

PM underlines message of harmony on Guru Nanak Jayanti Guru Nanak Jayanti also known as Gurpurab & Prakash Utsav marks the birthday of the first Sikh Guru Guru Nanak Press Trust of India | New Delhi November 25, 2015 Last Updated at 16:00 IST Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at the Gurbani Recital on the occasion of the 547th Birth Anniversary of Guru Nanak Devji at Rashtrapati Bhavan Cultural Centre in New Delhi. "On Guru Nanak Jayanti, my greetings to everyone. Guru Nanak Dev's message of service, compassion and harmony inspire eternally," Modi tweeted. The Prime Minister's message assumes significance in view of the "intolerance" debate, which has been further fueled by film star Aamir Khan's remarks that he was "alarmed" by a number of incidences and his wife Kiran Rao had wondered if they should move out of India. Guru Nanak Jayanti also known as Gurpurab and Prakash Utsav marks the birthday of the first Sikh Guru Guru Nanak. 14. AMRITSAR: Eight months after reports of the disappearance of Guru Nanak Dev's chakki (hand-moved wheat grinder) from Gurdwara Chakki Sahib, Eminabad, in Pakistan, Pakistan police registered a case in this regard on Saturday. The first Sikh police officer of Pakistan, Gulab Singh, had lodged a complaint at Eminabad police station on September 6, demanding an investigation into the disappearance of the Sikh relic from the gurdwara. On March 30, TOI had reported that the historical "chakki" had vanished from the shrine. READ ALSO: Pakistan Sikhs make move to get Guru Nanak's 'chakki' back from UK Gulab told TOI on Saturday that in his complaint he has mentioned that he had come to know through the Sikh community in Britain that the "chakki" was in the possession of a UK-based Sikh and "many Sikhs in UK have paid obeisance to the relic". He alleged that it was taken out from the gurdwara in connivance with some employees. The first Sikh master, Guru Nanak Dev, used to grind corn with the "chakki" when he was taken prisoner. Later, Gurdwara Chakki Sahib came up at that place. Gulab said that he had sought the registration of a theft case against the person who had taken away the Guru's "chakki". The relic's disappearance had led to outrage among Sikhs the world over. Chater Singh, member of Bibi Nanki Trust, Pakistan, had announced the launch of a movement for tracing the "chakki" and re-installing it at the gurdwara after performing sacred rituals. Former president of Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) Paramjit Singh Sarna had also confirmed that the millstone was not in Gurdwara Chakki Sahib and had been taken away by a UK-based Sikh. Akal Takht jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh had also directed Sikhs to trace it and re-install it at Gurdwara in Eminabad in accordance with rehat maryada (Sikh code of religious conduct)
  15. "Sabẖ ṯe vadā saṯgur Nānak jin kal rākẖī merī. ||4||10||57||" Ang 750. Does anyone know what the meaning of this line is? I've heard it be translated as 2 different things from various people. 1. "Guru Nanak is the greatest of all; He saved my honor in this Dark Age of Kali Yuga" 2. "The greatest is Satguru-(Vaheguru's formless way), Nanak, he has saved my honor". I do assume they both mean about the same, because "Joth Roop Har Aap Guroo Naanak Kehaayo ||" Ang 1408 "The Embodiment of Light, the Lord Himself is called Guru Nanak."
  16. On 8th March, world celebrates women's day. Sikh faith was among the first major world religions to imply that women were equals to men. Guru Nanak proclaimed the equality of men and women and all Guru Sahiban allowed women to take full part in all the activities of Sikh worship and practice. 19. Hello everyone, I've been reading through sikhs.org and came across a page with information on Guru Nanak Dev Ji. The website states, "Guru Nanak then blessed Lehna with his ang (hand) and gave him a new name, Angad, saying 'you are a part of my body.' Guru Nanak placed 5 coins and a coconut in front of Guru Angad and bowed before him." Question: 1. What is the significance/meaning of the 5 coins and coconut?

  21. Vaheguru ji ka Khalsa, Vaheguru ji ki Fateh, Sangat ji, this video is a response to www.sikhoutreach.org which is a Christian Missionary website aiming to convert Sikhs. This is not in itself what concerned us, but what did sicken us was the way that they twisted and misrepresented Gurbani in order to convince simple minded folk about Christianity. A Path of Truth should always seek to speak its own truth and not denigrate others using false statements. The claims they make are that Guru Nanak is a sinner whilst Jesus is free of sin. Anyone who has even read the Sikh scriptures at all will see the praise of Guru repeated throughout. This video is an excerpt from the Japji Sahib Katha sessions on our channel, specifically Pauri 26 where we addressed this claim. We have emailed www.sikhoutreach.org but not heard back from them. As is made clear from the video, the aim of this video is not to incite hate or violence towards the founders of that website but to educate Sikhs about an appropriate response to someone making such an argument to malign any of our Gurus. Please use your energy to help us spread the message of Sikhi rather than attack that website. Someone with strong roots and knowledge of Gurbani will never fall for such a flawed argument. Vaheguru ji ka Khalsa, Vaheguru ji ki Fateh
