  1. What is the Sikh perspective on treatment of criminals? How would Sikhs deal with convicted criminals for example during reign of Maharaja Ranjit Singh? Would it best compare with British, American, sharia or current Indian system? Would there be capital punishment?
  2. PANCHKULA, Haryana—In a major blow to the Sirsa cult, the CBI Court of Panchkula, headed by Justice Jagdeep Singh, has held that Gurmeet Ram Rahim is guilty of raping two of his female disciples. He has been taken into custody by police and is being transferred to the central Jail of Ambala. Sentencing will be delivered by the CBI Court on August 28, after adjudication. http://www.sikh24.com/2017/08/25/guilty-gurmeet-ram-rahim-verdict-confirmed-sentencing-in-three-days/ An eye-witnesses present in the Court told Sikh24 that Gurmeet Ram Rahim was appearing quite clearly depressed and he looked shaken when the Court delivered it’s verdict. (How the mighty fall) His followers started riots after the guilty verdict: Curfew in 10 cities of Punjab Over 30 dead and more than 200 injured. Military prescience in Punjab extended by 60 days An increase military presence of a 150 Companies requested by Punjab Two railways stations set alight CHANDIGARH, Punjab—Riotous behavior and violence by Sirsa cult disciples in Punjab and Haryana has stepped up which has caused the Punjab & Haryana High Court to issue a seizure order of the Sirsa cult’s entire property. The High Court has said that the expenditure of all the demolition caused by Sirsa cult disciples will be compensated by the selling of Ram Rahim’s property. Over 25 people have been killed so far by the violent mobs, and over a hundred people have been injured. Public property and vehicles are being targeted by the mobs. Curfew has been imposed in Bathinda, Mansa, Barnala and Ferozepur. Mobile internet has been suspended for the next few days. Meanwhile, numerous incidents of violence at petrol pumps, telephone exchanges, and public vehicles have been targeted by the violent mobs. http://www.sikh24.com/2017/08/25/breaking-punjab-update/ My comments: I have posted elsewhere that we Sikhs do not have the right to shut down the Sirsa followers' non-violent meetings. These, however, are not non-violent meetings. They are violent riots. We (and everyone) have the right to use violence to protect life and property. (Note: I'm not talking about the legal right in countries like the UK where if you injure a burglar, the police will come to arrest you, not the burglar. I'm talking about moral right.) Youtube, Facebook, and other media show Panchkula (bordering to Chandigarh) on fire. BTW: A question- Are live-fire bullets only reserved for Sikhs? The Sikhs were just sitting in an intersection in relation to Bargari beadbi incidents of Guru Granth Sahib. It's illegal to block an intersection, I get it. But it's not in and of itself a violent act. Rioting is a violent act. And you can see that the police were fleeing from the Sirsa followers, not advancing, not caning them, and certainly not firing with live bullets. (If I am mistaken, please correct me.) In any case, even if the police did live-fire, what's the equality between live-firing on a non-violent sit-in, and live-firing on a riot? Secondly, it's good that Sikhs remained generally aloof from this process. That's what I've been saying for a long time: Just let the government machinery work, why do we have to insert ourselves into everything? Because we remained aloof, the Sirsa followers are burning telephone exchanges, railway stations, buses, but, so far, not Gurdwaras. Thirdly, someone posted on Facebook a plea to our more naive brothers not to and set up a langar for the 100,000 dera premis camping in Panchkula. People laughed, but it came true when word (rumor?) came that dera premis ate in the langar at Nadha Sahib Gurdwara in Panchkula (a large historical gurdwara of Guru Gobind Singh ji's). A handful of people were upset at this idea, but the vast majority of Sikhs on Facebook said langars are open for everybody, even our enemies. In light of the violent response of the dera premis, is it a good idea to fuel the rage of the dera premis? Since, it's hard to go on a violent rampage if you're hungry for the past 3 days. Comments?

Former Manchester City star Courtney Meppen-Walter has been freed from prison after serving an eight month sentence for causing the deaths of siblings Kulwant Singh, 31, and Ravel Kaur, 37, from Cheetham Hill, Manchester, in a high-speed car crash. But a letter which appears to have been written by the footballer during his time in prison has emerged in which he describes his sentence as 'just like having a four month injury'. The letter, which features incorrect spelling and grammar, reads: 'Bro You Wanna See How Skinny I have Gone look Sexy as **** (As Usual). Gone bone skinny and been hitting the gym, think I'm going to be going into modleing with this body when I'm out **** football HAHAHA.'(sic) The letter goes on to say: 'Yo its a minor being in here you know just like having a 4 month injury for me. Only 3 months left for me now, nice that!' The letter is understood to have been written in April, just over a month into his sentence and three months before his initial release. Sources close to the defender say he is now looking to find a new club in a bid to ‘get his life back on track’. But the family of the victims have criticised his release, claiming they don’t feel justice has been served. The former £1,000-a-week footballer was originally freed in July but was put back behind bars within 24 hours after prison service bosses realised he had been released by mistake. At the time, he had served just four months of a 16-month sentence for two counts of causing death by careless driving. The Ministry of Justice recently completed an investigation into how the blunder occurred but have not made their findings public. Blackley and Broughton MP Graham Stringer has now pledged to raise the case in Parliament, saying keeping details of the error secret would hit public confidence in the justice system. Following his release last week, Meppen-Walter, from Blackley, tweeted about watching his former team-mates thrash Norwich 7-0 at the Etihad Stadium and about his desire to put his prison sentence behind him. He said: 'Getting my life back on track. Been a hard year but I can finally try and move forward with my life now.' The death crash happened last September when Meppen-Walter was driving a £25,000 Mercedes Elegance CDI at nearly twice the speed limit. He had been to a shisha bar in Manchester with friends and was on his way home to get ready for a night out. His friends were travelling in convoy in a VW Golf and the two cars were ‘jockeying’ around for position – accelerating and swapping lanes. Witnesses said the cars were also slowing down, possibly for speed cameras, and their driving was erratic. Meppen-Walter’s vehicle ploughed into a red Nissan Micra, killing Mr Singh and Mrs Kaur. Mr Singh had been driving his sister and her children home from a Sikh temple and was due to return to collect his wife and their two children, aged one and three. He pulled out of a side road and into the path of the Mercedes, which was travelling at 56mph in a 30mph zone. Two teenage children in the back seat suffered serious injuries and had to be cut free from the mangled wreckage, but have since made a good recovery. It emerged the double tragedy occurred five months after Meppen-Walter was caught speeding at 54mph in another 30mph zone in Bury. The teenager, from Blackley, Manchester, pleaded guilty to causing death by careless driving and was sentenced to 16 months behind bars and also banned from the roads for three years. The family is suing Meppen-Walter through Manchester solicitors Pannone LLP. In a statement issued by solicitor Deirdre Healy, from Pannone, Gawa Singh, the brother of Mr Singh and Ms Kaur, said: 'The sentence that Courtney Meppen-Walter has served is nothing compared to the loss that our family have suffered. It is not justice as we understand it. Two members of our family have died. It has torn our family apart and destroyed it.' An investigation into the blunder which saw Meppen-Walter originally released was completed last month. A Prison Service spokesman said: 'Releases in error are very rare and we take any incident extremely seriously. 'An incident took place on July 1, but the prisoner was returned to custody on the same day. Following an investigation, we have reviewed our systems to reduce the risk of this happening in future.' Mr Stringer has said he will write to the Ministry of Justice and speak in Parliament demanding the findings of the investigation are made public. Sad story - The fact that two innocent lives have been taken. This guy should have got at least a life sentence, yet he boasts about being in Jail like having a "Four Month football Injury". Its a Disgrace.
  5. I recently heard about a horrible law case and this's how it went down... A man married a woman 14 years ago while the woman's daughter was 3. In 2013 the daughter is now 17 and has a boyfriend, the step dad found out about this and slapped the daughter (just like what would happen with most indian parents). The daughter got mad and went to her boyfriend where they came up with a plan to charge the step dad for rape even though he didn't do anything like that. The step dad gets arrested for this and spends 3 months in prison while the step daughter and her mom take all the money from their joint bank account. The Gurdwara raises money for the man and he's released on bail. But the step daughter doesn't want this so she comes up with all these false allegations like being touched and being raped, while getting all of her friends to be "witnesses" to a fake crime. The man has no money because it all got taken while he was in jail so he can't afford a lawyer. What I find disgusting is that the step dad treated the daughter like his own and made sure she didn't go through any problems, he even bought her a brand new car and was willing to pay for her college even though she wasn't his real daughter. What would he have to do? He could face up to 5-10 years in jail over a crime he didn't commit.
