  1. Wjkk Wjkf I popped a spot on my face and some kes come off from face. I don't if that's a bujjar kurehat which means I have to take amrit again. Can someone help and tell if I have to. I didn't try to pull any kes and I don't remember fully if I did or if it fell off.

    Trichotillomania

fateh to everyone. I am an amritdhari guy married to somebody who suffers from Trichotillomania. when we first got married I wasn't aware of this issue and wasn't told. I only found out after a few months. Sikhi and rehat is very dear to me and my wife, and this has had an incredible impact on not only on our jeevan but on our relationship too. we have been married five years now and I just cannot get her to stop pulling. I've tried to live according to sikhi teachings the majority of my life now I feel ashamed to even go out with her due to this problem. is there anybody out there that can help? its had a huge impact on her own self confidence etc, I imagine nobody other than her family knew of her condition but obviously now I know so this has had a big impact on her mental health. I just don't know what to do. I have approached some 'sants' about this but they've just shrugged it off as 'don't worry it will get better' but it just hasn't, infact it is getting worse. Ideally I want her to stop before we have any children because this will obviously have an impact on the children when they grow up. I have done ardas after ardas but nothing. hopefully somebody can help.
  3. Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh, I am leaving for the U.S Army in the next month (basic training for 10 weeks at a fort where I will be cut off from the rest of the world). So I wanted some tips on how to keep practicing Sikhi in an environment that is not so conducive to it. I'm having paperwork done to get the religious accommodation to keep my kes, dari and wear a dastaar. So that exception will be made (which is my biggest relief) but I have so many other questions! I would really appreciate the help from anyone but especially those who have been through the military or army basic training specifically. -How do you care for long hair when you have minimal time/products? -How do you wear a kachera when doing athletic activities all day long and wearing thick pants over? Did you wear one? I really want to but I also want to be practical. Are there special types of kachere sold? Like athletic ones? -Does anyone know of someone who has personally been through basic training and done the gas mask test with their beard? Was the mask seal adequate enough or did it leak air? -On Sundays everyone is allowed to attend a religious service, they have many available but have to make special accommodations if they don't have what someone needs. (They don't have Sikh services so they'll have to make one somehow) How does that work for Sikhs? Do have some granthi or parcharak come? Would they let you go off-base to Gurdwara? If they can't accommodate me then I'm thinking of just attending the Contemporary Christian services so I can sing God's praises there because I heard out of all the options, they sign the most. -How is the vegetarian food? I know MREs come in veg option. How was the overall experience? -Kirpan? Did you wear/bring one? Gatra? If they don't allow it then could I just ask them to issue me one of their approved military tac knives? -Dastaar? What kind of cloth, is it the typical kapra? Do they issue you one or expect you to buy one separtely that matches the camo pattern of the uniform? -Gurbani? You can't bring any books or text with you except for a religious or holy book, so I recently bought a Gutka that I want to bring. Will I even have time to read it? I bought a big one with like 10+ Banis, should I just bring a smaller 5 Bani Nitnem instead? This is my first Gutka ever since I normally just use phone apps, but we will get our phones taken away the first day, so a Gutka was necessary to buy for me. How should I treat it? I keep it wrapped in cloth when I'm not reading it, I know it's not exactly our Guru Granth Sahib but I still want to respect it correctly. What are the rules on how we treat Gutkas? How do you do this while traveling or away from home? Any other tips you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh.

    Beard curling

Please have a look at the attached picture. After curling, the guy's beard looks cleaner and less messy without having to cut it. I think this is a better alternative to Sikhs who end up cutting their beards in the pursuit to "look good"/"presentable" or even a better alternative for trying the beard, although it does require you to go the same salon where kes are murdered everyday. Your thoughts?
  6. the first time I took Amrit, I was 5 years old. After plenty of mistakes and growing I had taken it again at the age of 12 from pressure (not all of it was bad but some auntiyan were really urging me to just do it even though my family was warning me of all my responsibilities) and just pure desire to want it. It was at a camp and they really motivate you well. I kept it up for a while and ended up doing many wrongful things afterwards. I’ve plucked my eyebrows because I started getting insecure and ashamed, and just some of my facial hair in general after I got judgemental comments even from my own mother who is Amritdhari, I’ve removed a small amount from legs a couple times where my leg was exposed, once even because I childishly wanted to see what a razor feels like (not sure if this was before or after I took it again). But I’ve had my fair share of mess ups. I kissed a boy and once he took Amrit we never did again and are on a better path now where we don’t even see each other in real life. I feel like I have to confess to that and I’m not sure how. The worst one for me is confession removing pubic hair a few times for comfort purposes especially during period a few times. I just can’t find any way to do that so simply. I know I have to confess everything I can remember because if I don’t then I will be punished after I leave this world so I might as confess now and take the tankha especially because I do very much feel guilty for it all. I don’t know what I was thinking. But I’m terrified of how to say all this. Like wording-wise and just bringing it up in general.

    Upper lip hair removal

Im not sure what to say. I myself am a female. But i get put off when i see a female parcharik that has visibly removed hair on the upper lip. It is hard to understand. I know these bebeyaan have kamai and are doing seva but i just cant accept the beadbi. That is why i had to make.gupt.topic as this has been bothering me. It is popping up everywhere. Facial hair bleaching and removal. Its sad. I wish if the women parchariks are having trouble they should share their journey??? Im not sure. Its one of those things that you are a walking parchar of sikhi. Whoever sees parchariks do this start to think if they do it, it must be acceptable. Very hard to understand please share your views. Because i cant share or out these ppl publicly i wont share photos. But its obvious
  8. Sangat Ji, Does anyone know of the correct maryada for disposing of Kes that falls out during combing? I have heard before that burning it is the correct; if so, is there any specific Bani to be read / other maryada points to be aware of whilst doing so? (any historical sources would be extra helpful!) Thanks in advance for your help
  9. VJKK VJKF Saadhsangat Ji, Maharaj Di Beant Kirpa naal daas has been able to start to grow his hair. Of course, I am only in the primary stages of growing my hair and a dumalla, keski, jourda etc will not fit my head Ji. I was thinking to just wear a durag until my hair grows long enough so I can tie something a bit more formal, come the latter stages of my hair growth. What are the sangat's views Ji? Shall I wear something else instead? This question is not only for me but for those Singhs/Bibis (not so much the Bibis as they generally tend have longer hair anyway) who are starting to keep their kes and need to find a way to keep their hair covered until they can tie some type of dastaar Ji. Vaheguru Ji.
  10. Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh. What’s the sangats opinion on a Singh getting dreadlocks? I have a condition which is causing my kes to deteriorate (don’t want to elaborate), I want to preserve my kes though. I’ve tried Biotin to keep it in good condition to no avail. Called a dreadlock hairdressers, said he’s had a few Singh’s come to him (probably some of the one's who wear a dumala! Look like Rasta's)! Was surprised tbh! Said he's even familiar about most Punjabi’s hair thickness etc. Kamaal di gal ah but right or wrong? I'd still be able to wear a dastaar btw. And become a Saadhu in the process lol.

    I've Cut My Hair..

Hi All, this might be a little bit of a read but here's background. I started growing my hair when i was 16, my family were all against it and asked numerous times that if i took this path i would have to stick with it, 3 months later i took Amrit and it was amazing. I went strong for a very long time, i made some mistakes but i did my pesh and carried on with my life. Over the years i became lazy, slacked with Bani and AmritVelah and eventually stopped doing it altogether by the time i hit uni (18). I then started eating meat, my parents were totally supportive and said it was okay and have been eating it ever since, i kept my dari and kesh and carried on. After a while i questioned why bother being a singh anymore if i've done all of this stuff, and recently those feelings have been getting worse and worse. I should have stopped and gone to the gurdwara, sat with sangat and cleansed my mind but i didn't want to. Not because i'm lazy but because i was just emotionally drained at this point. I've posted in this forum before, severe depression has taken its toll on me and i've contemplated suicide a few times. Anyways, a few days ago i had the feeling of cutting my kes, i thought it would make my life easier. So i took a pair of scissor and cut a few strands, i didn't feel any remorse or bad feelings and carried on cutting it. After it was all gone i sat down and carried on like nothing happened, i felt nothing, i felt like i did no wrong, but i felt like a great weight had been lifted off of me. I don't know how to tell my parents about this, although i know they wouldnt mind me cutting my dara because they've said before they are okay with it, i'm not sure how they will react to my head hair being cut. Any advice on how to approach my parents ?

    Hair Issue

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh I am a kaur, I have been amritari since I was a child. Just a few years ago, I was clinically depressed, and at some point last year, I couldn't bring myself to showerv every day, or anything. I didn't comb my hair for about a year due to depression, and now my hair is matted and impossible to comb. I still wear a dastaar but my hair is so rough and big, It's bundled up I want my old hair back, when it was long, silky, and beautiful. I do NOT want to cut it, obviously. But I am looking for advice. I don't know how to get my old hair back. I wish to never cut it. I know I've made a terrible mistake and I do ardaas, but please help me. What do you think I should do?
  13. I'm looking for advice & tips / anecdotes from parents about kes and toddler Singhs. Any advice about maintaining the kes in good condition without using harsh products, when to start tying the hair up, joora and patka tips. Thanks in advance.
  14. I think there is a need for central topics, on key issues which affect most sikh old and young alike. There are specific cases which can be discussed individually, however most people just look for general advice on the issue and it takes too long to find individual topics, where there are fantastic bits of advice, but its time to put it all together - which will help us all! This may be better in the gupt section? One such topic is off, Keeping Kes – common questions: “importance of keeping kes” “dealing with kes related issues” etc Post any advice/tips, inspirational stories that will help us stay in the form that the Guru wanted us to be in, and remain attached to Maharaj’s charan and not Mayas!
  15. VJKK VJKF I am a 19 year old boy Sikh living in the UK and I have an issue when it comes to the topic of my dhari. It’s not that anybody says anything to me anymore it’s just that I don’t feel comfortable with it. I don’t feel like myself. I feel have to think twice before I do anything becasue I may give Sikhs a bad name. I feel like a hypocrite. I’ve talked to my family about shaving my dhari and everytime it comes up my Mum gets upset and so does my brother so to keep everyone happy I do what they want me to do and not shave. But I feel that this is emotional blackmail and that in the end I have no choice, I’m being treated like a puppet and they are pulling the strings. To make matters worse my relatives think that me and my brother are really religious and are going to end up being Amritdharis, all because my Mum told them that me and my brother are going to take Amrit. I know that this is the case with my brother as he is into Sikhi and wants to take Amrit, but I am nowhere near ready. Saying this sometimes I do feel comfortable with my dhari. I do understand the importance of Kes, or well at least I think I do. But majority of the time I regret to say that I don’t feel comfortable and that I am keeping it because of my mother. I am in a dilemma. Do I keep my dhari despite being uncomfortable with it just to keep everyone happy and so that relatives don’t say anything to my parents, OR do I do what I want and end up upsetting people? I would appreciate some advice as I am really confused. It’s been like this for 3 years now and is beginning to stress me out. Many thanks in advance. VJKK VJKF
  16. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh Guru Roop Sangat Jeo, Just finished digitising this well-researched book by S. Gurcharanjit Singh Lamba. Although written as an open letter to monay and Sikhs who prefer to wear caps, etc instead of turban, it is equally inspiring for dastar/dumalla wearing kesdharis as well. Please do have a read jeo Download this book from SikhSangat: http://www.scribd.co...jit-Singh-Lamba Dhanvaad jeo! :happytyper:
