On reading Guru Nanak Dev Ji's jeevan I learned He enjoyed spending time in nature in His youth (cattle, fields and greenery) and His Bro in law's name was Ram Chand. The priest at his birth and Jeneoo ceremony, was Hardyaal. What new things have u learned about Sikhi? Can be ANYTHING related to Sikhi; Saakhi, book, katha, Saroop, article etc.

Wjkk wkfj! Sangat ji I have been getting thoughts of late regarding the academic culture in Punjab. There does not seem to be a thriving one currently. I might not have good knowledge in depth regarding the same, and do correct me if I'm wrong which I hope I am, but isn't it so much rare these days to come across a Punjabi scientist who is the best in his field? Or maybe an economist? A researcher of some kind who has contributed to his field of work. Why don't we see enough people at top management positions in the corporate world who have acquired their degrees in Punjab? This is another isse, we don't really have many quality education institutions or central government companies that are headquartered in Punjab. I read somewhere that there used to be many bungay in Amritsar that were centres for learning in a specific subject each. Why have we been unable to cultivate a learning culture within our native land? Why do we have to go out of Punjab, to other states or even abroad, if we need to gain quality higher education in a subject? I feel like it's high time we start focussing some energy on improving Punjab's academic climate. What do you think about these issues? Please let us all know. Wjkk Wjkf!

How does one, who's taken Amrit of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, become open minded? NOT going against the rehat! So not "I feel ill. I'll take some beer..." THAT's stupidity, not open minded! Or "I'll cut my hair cause of so and so" again, foolishness not open minded. "Eh mann chanchala, Chaturai kinaeh na paiaa." Without rehat infringement one can learn so much from others. Sadhguru is a perfect example. Am sure many have rolled their eyes or maybe are intrigued, why is he a perfect example? Look into his practice of yoga then you may understand. Agreeing with Sikhi, he claims to take control of your mind and body, to make it into one. So when we read Gurbani we are physically there (body) but the mind is out the door. In fact it's MILES away. So by meditating and tuning to Naam one must first tune the mind and body together. Methods can be found "Inner engineering" by Sadhguru. Like Sikhi, method is same, sit cross legged and breath (more technique in book). By simple Sadhna one can tune into the world, know the Earth's functions, know what the weather will be like! Understand animal language. So how will this help with Naam? Isn't it a time waste when I can sit and tune in with Naam straight? True but this is just one aspect of applying a method and benefitting the fruits. Be honest! Who would not like to know the weather or speak animal? YES! Brahmgiaani's have this knowledge no doubt. But for a person on the path, just started or maybe "Many years have gone by I still fail to concentrate!" Try all sort of methods besides imbuding in the Lord's name directly WITHOUT going astray from Sikhi (be open minded in your methods). The more out the box we think he more we'll realise we can always learn things/ techniques from other faiths whilst keeping our mind and Heart on Waheguru, the ultimate destination. However, Sadhguru's technique also involves always being happy, poses of meditation for the mind and body. The thing is nowhere he mentions "You will obtain so and so God..." He merely mentions how to be happy if your body's chakras go right. So chakra's going right, living in the moment (don't Brahmgiaanis live in a moment)? can all aid in achieving where we want to be. AGAIN! To clarify, this is another believer's methods of practice that could be useful into helping us concentrate better and reap other benefits. Like just focus on breathing/ emptiness for 10 minutes then recite the Lord's name for another 20 minutes.

Wahegurujikakhalsawahegurujikifateh, Children's Sikhi Class Syllabus If you were to design a syllabus for children (8-14) attending a weekly, 30 minute sikhi class what sort of syllabus would you have? When you were a child what did you want from your weekly Sikhi Class? What did you feel was missing? What were the main problems/failings? To address these: Where would you start? What are the key themes you would cover? How would you hope to cover sikh theology, philosophy, history, maryada, and relevance? How would you go about assessing their understanding? Are there any key resources that you would recommend? What methods could you use to further engage the children? I hope by the end of this thread we can have developed a basic syllabus - I have a group of children at the Gurudwara Sahib who would be willing volunteers for a Sikhsangat.com experiment. I just wanted to know about the local kirtan classes around the southall area, basic information like when are they on, how many in a class. Also if anyone has been to these classes, what are they like and do you learn. Because I've attended one before and didn't really learn much. Thanks for any replies in advance.
