  1. Why does it seem as if no one is worried about the christian missionaries wrecking havoc in panjab? So many peole are getting targetted and converted yet no sikh group, included akal thakht, have made a stance on this situation. What do you guys think?
  2. This is a thread to post ur favourite kirpana and other shastars (like their was this fav kirtan thread) mine personally is the sarabloh store 12 inch curved pesh kabz
  3. can we suffer the sins of our ancestors? and can we save our descendants/ future generations how much is our karma tied to our families?
  4. What would you say are strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOT) facing the sikh community in present times? You can base your analysis globally or locally/nationally.
  5. Not to offend anyone, but I want pray for my wife even if in her past life she done wrong, but it Sikhi seems so obsessed with me , not condoning what the warriors did, just us can you help me understand
  6. Sikh Sangat from Punjab (India) living abroad should make regular visits to Punjab. This way they stay in touch with Sikh culture. Visit the Gurdware and see Sikh heritage. There’s 5 Takhats to see. Also a chance to speak in Punjabi with everybody. I have been 7 times myself and love it.
  7. I thought if we have love for our guru like a child would with a father then having to shower again wouldn’t have to be a requirement especially if you’ve cleaned yourself and changed clothes and everything? Isn’t just one ishnaan necessary to sit and do paath next to your guru?
  8. SSA to all. Recently ive been wanting to do paath and include it in my daily routine but im not sure where to start? I am a university student and im very depressed, i also cant read or write in the punjabi language which is making it even more difficult for me to do paath. As of right now, i just play the live kirtan from youtube to help relax myself during the day and before bed. I understand that it is important not only to recite paath but to fully understand it too. Can you please help me, where should i start? how often should i do paath? what should i listen to, try reciting and remembering?

    Somebody help me with this

So I’m going out on a date with this white girl i met through mutual friends and have only met each other once. She gave me her number and we decided to meet up. She’s only seen me once, and not at my best (I was at work). She’s pretty decent from what I can tell. However, I heard from one of my mutual friends that she has eitraaz over my beard as I’m a kesadhari khuli dhari wala sikh. She hasn’t seen me in a pagg, she saw in my patka under my hardhat. How do I approach this situation, cutting/trimming is off the table, not happening. So do I call the whole thing off? Or do I give it a shot and just go even though she could be put off by it and then it would be a complete waste of time for me. ? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you waheguru ji ka Khalsa, waheguru ji ki fateh!?
  10. How much did George Lucas take from our religion, look at the rebellion iis symbol stolen from us
  11. interesting vichar about reversing the downturn of sikhi and the state of play in India
  12. I have come across a few newly embraced Sikhs from Russia. It got me thinking. Eastern Europe could be the next frontier for Sikhs. Places like Poland, Russia, holland, germany ect. Eastern Europeans/Scandanavia are generally alot more open to Faith and spirituality and have a fascination with Indian faith and culture. Alot more then typical british goreh that are very far from faith and more into boozing and and clubbing. Basics of Sikhi could possible do some events in those countries to raise awareness about Sikhism. Ive met a few Europeans also in the uk and they really into learning about Indian faiths ect. Yet Sikhs would rather not fund these projects as they believe that all faiths lead to God. So why talk about our faith.
  13. Please could someone clarify if we are allowed to wear red/green in sikhi? could you also provide examples to support your answer? I have been told that red represents lust and green is symbolic for islam Thanks
  14. I think Sikhi is much stronger in the west rather than India. In India they follow Sikhi because of their ancestors whilst in the west they actually choose to become Sikhs.

    self esteem

hi i think a lot of the issues that periodically come up on this site have to do with low self esteem. what is self esteem? how you think of yourself, how you value yourself, how much love and respect you have for yourself. what is low self esteem? when you look down on yourself, you base on your opinion of yourself on how others view you, you look for validation and approval from others. what causes low self esteem? depending on external influences to understand and feel good about yourself. what is the cure to low esteem? to love, respect and value yourself. this is not the same as arrogance or pride. it's a sense of self security. don't base how you feel about yourself on the opinions, feelings or reactions of others. in Sikhi, no one is high or low ("uttam neech nah koi"). Only God is above. Therefore, you don't have to look up or down on anyone.
  16. So just a question, on how we think these days, do you think 'Sikhi' is Devine coming straight from Waheguru or just made up from 'Guru Nanak Ji' for me and my learnings they are one and the same. Would be interested in your thoughts.

    greeting Guru ji

Hi Redoptics posted this link on another thread: https://www.sikhiwiki.org/index.php/Bhai_Nand_Lal_Rahitnama What I found particularly interesting was this bit: The Sikh desirous of Guru’s Darshan,Should go and have the Darshan of Granth Jee,(14)After ablution early in the morning,he should judiciously undertake its three circumambulation,(15)DohiraWith folded hands he should be seated, seeking my audience,And after paying obeisance to Guru Granth Jee, listen to the celestial exposition.(16) I just thought it was an interesting (somewhat lost?) tradition to make three circumambulations of SGGS. Is this still done anywhere?

  21. Personally I rate it at zero, non-existent. Islam's marketing strategy is probably no.1 right now 2nd is chrisitanity because they are aggressive convert seeking abrahamic faiths. And our situation with sikhi its much worse than other dharmic faiths buddhists and hindu's who do less than us in terms or charity and have less media exposure in the west, hardly don't do anything to attract new converts but still have large appeal amoung westerners because of yoga and meditation and these two faiths have powerful state power behind them (buddhists having burma. cambodia, thailand, sri lanka, etc hindus having nepal, bali and india). Where are missionary Sikhs at? Wheres Sikhi at? Wheres SGPC at? Disgraceful
  22. From a young age I was always active within my Gurdwara commuity, and with Maharaj's kirpa and my Mahapurakh's help, I have been able to retain that and also become Amritdhari. After I became amritdhari, I developed immense love for Maharaj, which my parents were unfamiliar with, and it seems as if whenever I want do to something Sikhi-related, they become reluctant and say 'focus on your exams'. Due to me having GCSE's coming up, I wanted to do a formal ardaas to Maharaj with a granthi and I asked my mom,(after doing around 2 hours of revision), if I could go, She went "whats an ardaas going to do for you, stop with all this nonsense and do revision". Sangat Ji, I need some advice on what I should do to resolve this ongoing conflict.

    Why am i here?

Someone asked why a christian should be on this forum. A good question indeed. Many reasons. It is in order to understand your underlying contemplative experiences and thus enrich my own worship. To explore information about your faith, to ask questions about your religious intuitions and truths. I think we have a huge amount in common despite important surface differences. Eastern wisdom interests me. For many years Buddhism was my interest and i found a lot was useful but ultimately unsatisfying. I have been seeking peace and strength from many sources for many years. None gave me the treasure i have in Christianity. Only when i faced insurmountable difficulties in my life did i realise it is God i sought all along and Christ who i need. I think Sikhs know God very deeply and i feel christians can learn a lot from you. Also vice versa. Talking to Sikhs i have found astounding similarities in our journey of knowing our Creator. I am a committed Christian, this will never change. But i see no reason to close my mind to the riches of other faiths such as yours. Yes we have huge vital differences but so much common ground. I firmly believe if people truly communicate, between cultures and religions, this would become a heaven on earth instead of the horrors people do to each other in the name of religion. Our God is the same essentially. To hurt or kill anyone for their different outlook is against God's will. It is the greatest tragedy and foolishness of humankind.
