  1. I know some people will think i ask a no-brainer question. Everyone knows what simran is. Or do we know? I wish to start each day of mine now with simran at amritvela. This is the best thing one can do and its merits are eulogized again and again in sggs. But some say simran is reciting waheguru, waheguru. Others will say just parroting isnt enough.you have to listen deeply. Yet others say they focus ob third eye in trikuti when meditating. Yet some others say simran is not physical but more mental, simply remembering waheguru at all times. Whatever simran maybe in true sense, its more powerful than all nuclear bombs. Guru sahib even goes to say that one can't describe the "gati" of one who believes this way. To see the wonders of simran go no further than ashtpadi one of sukhmani sahib. This wonderful baani in its first octet describes the wonders and fruits of naam simran , 8 nidhi, 18 siddhi, etc. I wonder why so many who claim to do naam simran don't get them. ?

  6. So during amritvela last night I started my naam simran and about 30 mins into I could feel a pull in the middle of forehead. Then all of sudden I start spinning like the conscious in my head is spinning. And I'm still repeating vaheguru, it felt very good and very uplifting but my question is.. is this normal and does this mean I'm progressing ?
  7. There are several ways to do Naam Jaap. Saint and Bhagats connect with the almighty by remembering Akal Purakh Wahe Guru. There is no best way to connect with God but useful tips come in handy when a person is just starting out. Bhai Sahib Bhai Vir Singh in his book Gurmukh Sikhiya provides some ways to make it easier to do Naam Jaap. Bhai Vir Singhs helpful advice comes from puratan Singhs whove reached the ultimate stage of Naam Jaap and felt Wahe Guru. 1) Rest is important Bhai Vir Singh recommends getting at least 7-8 hours of sleep everyday. He says if the body is rested only then you can spiritually be healthy enough to connect with Wahe Guru. 2) Healthy Diet Its important to have a simple and healthy diet. He states its important to not eat heavy foods and important to maintain a healthy diet. He recommends preventing constipation with a balanced diet. 3) Kesh Ishnaan twice a week. Bhai Vir Singh states that its very important to wash your hair at least once a week and recommends twice. 4) Satsang One must do Satsang with Sadh Sangat as Guru is always found among the Sangat. 5) Do Naam Jaap with Rasna, positive thoughts Naam simran will automatically start to happen once it gets absorbed in the mind and body. Rhythm and concentration will take it time but continuous sessions of naam jaap will cause it to be consistent and automatic. This is when Naam Maala will become day and night and you will be doing Naam Simran 24/7. 6) Stay away from bad influences Its important to stay away from negative influences and people. 7) Reaching higher stage A person will realize when he/she has reached an out of body stage. Once this stage is reached, its important to be careful when taking a leap into the next stage. To avoid feelings of hunger, its important to eat a good diet. 8) Prevent Imagination from running wild A person must not ponder and stay away from creating unnecessary imagination that can steer person away from Naam Simran. Love of Wahe Guru must always increase and desire to do more Naam has to continue. Once a person has achieved higher levels of Naam Jaap, its important to help others connect and obtain a higher lever of spirituality. Those who do Seva and help others connect with Wahe Guru are the ideal GurSikhs. These are the people who are blessed and bless others. 8. Last year was a tough year. We decided we were having an extension to be done in the house. This resulted in a great deal of disruption to our normal routine. It also meant that we were more busy than ever and had lesser visitors around. It meant we were eating simpler foods. It also meant that the TV was off for a significant amount of time. This is when I had my ipod on for long periods of time. I was listening to a lot of shabad kirtan, We were visiting lesser people so I was spending a significant amount of time on my own. (Listening to shabads, I would have tears rolling down my eyes and would cry a great deal) I had never woken up at Amrit vela to do path. I decided to do this and Amrit vela was truly magical. I had a number of experiences of being woken up by divine forces and the urge to start praying. It is at this time that one day I was listening to the shabad - ik shin dharas dhikhaye ji. Then I started to wonder what it would be to get darshan for just a minute. Deep in my heart I starting longing for darshan of one minute. I woke up at Amrit vela - did all my prayers and went to sleep. When I was sleeping - I had this wonderful blissful experience which is totally difficult to describe. My soul was totally awakened and my heart felt like it filled my whole body. I felt totally different and there was a voice deep deep in me asking me If I wanted Waheguru and there was Waheguru simran going on like I have never heard or felt before. The voice was so clear. There was nothing to see - it was just a feeling. A very clear feeling. My answer was yes - I wanted Waheguru. The voice replied to me - Then keep doing the jap of Waheguru. The voice was not heard by my ears but by my soul. Then the great feeling started to part. My husband was calling me below to do something. (in my dream) I was pleading with him, please give me one second - the feeling is leaving me and I dont want it to end. In my dream my soul was sort of hanging in the air and I could not get down to do the task he was asking me to. I was in full consciousness but sort of paralysed. Something kept tugging me on the side and I thought it was my son. The feeling which I was getting of Waheguru was so sweet that I could not let it go but it kept departing. My soul was yearning for it and an explanation came to me instantly and I understood - not now it said - you still have people who need you. I woke up and opened my eyes. I thought my son was on the side pulling at my blanket - but he was not. The feeling of his hands on my side was so real, that I was just wondering what had been happening to me. Some force had come to my assistance to bring my soul back to my body. I was wondering whether I had died or what was it? I was only full of regret - why did I ask darshaan of only ik shin? I should have asked more. How did I know that this wish would be fulfilled? If I had known then I would definitely have asked for more. So if you are doing simran or bhagti or anything else (meditation, listening to shabads) be hopeful and know that Waheguru is real. YOu need to keep working and try to beat all the obstacles which will come your way. Use your time wisely - choose your friends wisely and keep your thoughts positive and focused all the time. The hope which we rely on and the reward of darshan of one minute is so beautiful that it fills you up with regret when you have to depart. Keep praying that Waheguru can keep us in sach khand right under his care and under his wings such that we do not have to depart from him again and come to this earth to suffer. The real spiritual world which we long to see is seen with closed eyes. What we see when we open our eyes is all false. Yes it was and it is a sad departing when we leave God to come to this world. God wants us to unite with him, but we can only meet him through our actions. So let us start doing the things which will bring us closer to God. Ik▫oaʼnkār saṯgur parsāḏ. 10. In Memory of Shahibzadey Shaheedi, Naam Simran Smagam is happening at Darbar Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, Walsall, West-Midlands. Sangat Ji, We are fast approaching the 'festive season' again this year, but what does this time of the year really mean for Sikhs? This is the time of the year that one of the biggest sacrifices in history was given by our father Dhan Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj. In the month of Poh Maharaj sacrificed his four sons, his mother and countless Sikhs in the name of dharam. This was the fulfilment of a promise Guru Gobind Singh Ji made in 1699 when he, as Guru, knelt down in front of the Panj Pyaare and begged them for the gift of Amrit. The Panj asked Guru Sahib what he will give to receive this Amrit and Maharaj said they will sacrifice their entire family to get this divine gift. In memory of this Baljit Singh will be doing a daily katha over 13 Days telling the full story. This is part of the Naam Simran Smagam being held at the Gurdwara. Full details are below please be sure to attend! 19th December to 31st December. Daily smagam program: morning Simran 5am-6am & evening simran 7am-8pm 13 Larivaar Shaheedi Katha 8pm-8.30pm Darbar Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, Rollingmill Street, Walsall, WS2 9EQ Maharaj has given and today continues to give so much for us, this time of year is a perfect time for us all to reflect on what we have really sacrificed to Maharaj. Please make effort to attend and share with others, it is so important that we all know about this chapter in our history!

    Living My Life

Gurfateh Jio, I have been wanting to get this off my chest for a while - and wondered if sangat could help. I have been trapped in a circle for a long time - I do not know how to escape it. Essentially - I feel the more Simran I do - the more I dedicate my life and thoughts to Vaheguru - I become very submissive. In the sense, whenever someone asks me to do something I will do it. Or if I get shouted at, or sworn at or bullied I will just accept it as Gods will and do not want to upset that person. I will let my spouse and family get away with anything - even if its hurtful. However when my Simran/paat decreases I then gain the "power" to stand up to people - I do not let anyone get away with anything If they try something. I will stand up for my rights and others. How do I achieve an equilibrium? How do I continue to give my head but stay strong and focused. I love Vaheguru more than anything. I Know I may sound weak and pathetic, but this is a real issue for me. Do I give 100 percent to GOD and just nod my head - or do I give 50 percent and stand up for all. Thank you ji for any help. Paapi.

  17. Waheguru Here is a great book on japping nam and different methods. Also has many helpful tips on your journey to waheguru Beginner's Nam Jap Recitational Meditation
  18. Waheguru Have been noticing that alot of people who do there nitnam or who read sukhmani sahib dont do any simran. They feel that only reading Gurbani is enough. Its good that there reading Gurbani but every shabd in Guru Granth Sahib Ji has the Mahima of Naam. I have asked people who read sukhmani sahib everyday, do you do simran and they say no, that reading is good enough. One of the lines from Sukhmani Sahib is 'Prab ka Simran Sab Ti Uchha'. I wanted the Sangats opinion, how do you reason with a person who says doing only Paath is enough. Also is there any Sangat member who reads only Gurbani and doesnt do Simran. Waheguru.
  19. Is it true that from naam simran during amritvela time that gives such a Sikh energy to go through the day even with lack of sleep. I've heard 1 hour of naam simran with full concetration = 7 hrs of sleep. Is this fact true or somewhat true? Of course Naam is source of food and energy but that's another talk.
