    Sikhs marrying Hindus

It is now the new norm & virtually accepted that many western sikh women & men are marrying Hindus, what is the opinion of our sikh diaspora on this issue? Yes I know that many are also marrying blacks, whites & muslims but this focus is on the "more accepted" hindus.
  2. Prominent historian DN Jha, an expert in India's ancient and medieval past, in his new book, "Against the Grain: Notes on Identity, Intolerance and History", in a sharp critique of "Hindutva ideologues", who look at the ancient period of Indian history as "a golden age marked by social harmony, devoid of any religious violence", has said, "Demolition and desecration of rival religious establishments, and the appropriation of their idols, was not uncommon in India before the advent of Islam". The book says, "Central to (Hindutva) perception is the belief that Muslim rulers indiscriminately demolished Hindu temples and broke Hindu idols. They relentlessly propagate the canard that 60,000 Hindu temples were demolished during Muslim rule, though there is hardly any credible evidence for the destruction of more than 80 of them." Presenting what he calls "a limited survey of the desecration, destruction and appropriation of Buddhist stupas, monasteries and other structures by Brahminical forces", Jha says, "Evidence for such destruction dates as far back as the end of the reign of Ashoka, who is credited with making Buddhism a world religion." He adds, "A tradition recorded in a twelfth-century Kashmiri text, the Rajatarangini of Kalhana, mentions one of Ashoka’s sons, Jalauka. Unlike his father, he was a Shaivite, and destroyed Buddhist monasteries. If this is given credence, the attacks on Shramanic religions seem to have begun either in the lifetime of Ashoka or soon after his death." According to Jha, "Other early evidence of the persecution of Shramanas comes from the post-Mauryan period, recorded in the Divyavadana, a Buddhist Sanskrit, which describes the Brahmin ruler Pushyamitra Shunga as a great persecutor of Buddhists. He is said to have marched out with a large army, destroying stupas, burning monasteries and killing monks as far as Sakala, now known as Sialkot, where he announced a prize of one hundred dinars for every head of a Shramana." Bringing up "evidence" from famous grammarian Patanjali, Jha says, he "famously stated in his Mahabhashya that Brahmins and Shramanas are eternal enemies, like the snake and the mongoose. All this taken together means that the stage was set for a Brahminical onslaught on Buddhism during the post-Mauryan period, especially under Pushyamitra Shunga, who may have destroyed the Ashokan Pillared Hall and the Kukutarama monastery at Pataliputra—modern-day Patna." Jha further says, "The possibility of a Shunga assault on Buddhist monuments is supported by the layers of debris and the evidence of desertion found at many centres of Buddhism, notably in Madhya Pradesh. For example, Sanchi, which was an important Buddhist site since the time of Ashoka, has yielded evidence of the vandalisation of several edifices during the Shunga period. Similar evidence comes from nearby places such as Satdhara, in Katni district, and Deurkothar, in Rewa district." "The destruction and appropriation of Buddhist sites continued in Madhya Pradesh even after Shunga rule ended", says Jha. "At Ahmedpur, for instance, a Brahminical temple seems to have been constructed on a stupa base in the fifth century, and icons have been found at several sites around Vidisha, which were transformed into Shaivite or Jain places of worship around the eighth century." Then, "more than 250 kilometres north-east of Vidisha, a Buddhist establishment existed at Khajuraho before it emerged as a major temple town from the tenth century onwards, under the Chandellas. Here, the Ghantai temple appears to have been built on the remains of a Buddhist monument in the ninth or tenth century by the Jains, who also may have had a strong presence in the region." Providing evidence from Mathura, which was a flourishing town in western Uttar Pradesh during the Kushana period, Jha says, "Some present-day Brahminical temples, such as those of Bhuteshwar and Gokarneshwar, were Buddhist sites in the ancient period. Here, the Katra Mound, a Buddhist centre during Kushana times, became a Hindu religious site in the early medieval period." Further, at Kaushambi, near Allahabad, "the destruction and burning of the great Ghositaram monastery has been attributed to the Shungas -- more specifically to Pushyamitra", says Jha, adding, "Sarnath, near Varanasi, where the Buddha delivered his first sermon, became the target of Brahminical assault. This was followed by the construction of Brahminical buildings, such as Court 36 and Structure 136, probably in the Gupta period, by reusing Mauryan materials." Quoting Chinese pilgrim Fa-hsien, who visited India in the early fifth century, during the Gupta period, Jha says, at Sravasti, where the Buddha spent much of his life, "Brahmins seem to have appropriated a Kushana Buddhist site, where a temple with Ramayana panels was constructed during the Gupta period." Jha notes, "In fact, the general scenario of Buddhist establishments in what is today Uttar Pradesh was so bad that in Sultanpur district alone no less than 49 Buddhist sites seem to have been destroyed by fire when, as described in a paper by the archaeologist Alois Anton Führer, 'Brahminism won its final victories over Buddhism'.” In the post-Gupta centuries, says Jha, Chinese Buddhist pilgrim and traveller Hsüan Tsang, who visited India between the years 631 and 645, during the reign of Harshavardhana, "states that the sixth-century Huna ruler Mihirakula, a devotee of Shiva, destroyed 1,600 Buddhist stupas and monasteries and killed thousands of Buddhist monks and laity. He further tells us that 1,000 sangharamas in Gandhara were 'deserted'/and in 'ruins,' and describes 1,400 sangharamas in Uddiyana as 'generally waste and desolate'.” Then, says Jha, "Hsüan Tsang tells us that the king Shashanka of Gauda cut down the Bodhi tree at Bodh Gaya in Bihar -- the place of the Buddha’s enlightenment -- and removed a statue of the Buddha from a local temple, ordering that it be replaced by an image of Maheshvara... Bodh Gaya came under Buddhist control again during the period of the Pala rulers, who were Buddhists, and the place has, in fact, remained a site of religious contestation throughout Indian history." Referring to the internationally reputed Buddhist university at Nalanda, especially the its vast monastic complex where Hsüan Tsang spent more than five years, Jha says, it's library was set on fire by "Hindu fanatics", insisting, "The popular view, however, wrongly attributes this conflagration to the Mamluk commander Bakhtiyar Khilji, who never went there, but, in fact, sacked the nearby Odantapuri Mahavihara at modern-day Bihar Sharif." Suspecting that even the Jagannath temple at Puri, one of the most prominent Brahminical pilgrimage centres in eastern India, built in the twelfth century during the reign of the Eastern Ganga ruler Anantavarman Chodaganga Deva, "is said to have been constructed on a Buddhist site" something which "may be contested", Jha says, "There is hardly any doubt that the temples of Purneshvara, Kedareshvara, Kanteshvara, Someshvara and Angeshvara, all in Puri district, were either built on Buddhist viharas, or made of material derived from them." source : https://www.counterview.net/2018/06/buddhist-shrines-massively-destroyed-by.html
  3. Hi Just a list of ways that Hindus have shown active hatred towards Sikhs in recent history (with proof). The point of this thread is not to promote hatred of Hindus. Hatred is against religious all tenets (God is Nirvair, so sikhs should strive to be too), and also obviously not all Hindus are bad/hate Sikhs. A lot of Hindus have spoke up for Sikhs, both in the past and now, even at risk to themselves and their careers. Also, alot of Hindus have interest in Sikhi and Gurbani and go to Gurdwara, I would not like those Hindus to feel bad or put off at all. In fact they may also find this enlightening. 1. Santa Banta / Sardarji Jokes throughout the 80s, 90s and early 2000 it was common for hindu media and popular culture to promote vicious 'jokes' trying to ridicule Singhs and always frame them as stupid. the whole tenor of these jokes was nasty. i wish some one would compile them to show the world what kind of 'humour' was being promoted. the whole aim was to belittle sikhs and insult them in the public imagination. this compares to how Nazis targeted Jews in their media. 3. Bollywood depiction of Sikhs again, I wish someone would compile the blatant nastiness shown against sikhs in cinema from 80s up until present, and put it on youtube to show the real nature of 'bollywood'. I have been quite disgusted by the amount of times my aunt has been watching some bollywood film and i have randomly sat down and seen some sort of ridicule or put down of sikhs (always with a turbaned character to make it clear). 4. Sunny Leone- Bollywood had to go all the way to Canada to get Sunny Leone. Why? Aren't there Hindu girls in India who work as pornstars? Of course there are, but Hindu audiences don't want to see that... 5. Dharendra and Dara Singh had to convert to Hinduism (Arya Samaj) in order to have film careers. (though not sure why Dara kept 'Singh' in his name?) 6. Hindi Dramas- in Hindi tv dramas Hindu woman are always depicted as ideal wives, doing religious ceremonies and running around after their Hindu husbands. Where as Sikh women are shown as devious, running around with their 'bf' behind their parents backs etc. again, why the double standard? 7. Subramanium Swami- theres footage on Youtube some where of him addressing some Hindus in USA I think, where he says Manmohan Singh "was only good at taking orders" and the audience start laughing exaggeratedly and hysterically (diss at Manmohan SIngh). He also admits working with some other 'Singh' in his speech but lowers the tone when he mentions his name. basically trying to take credit for Singhs work. i can't find this anymore i suspect he had it taken down because it was at a small function in USA (he didn't want anyone to see it). 8. Amrita Pritam vs Kamala Das Indian media loves to hype up Amrita Pritam. Pritam got famous for one (!) poem. After she won a literary prize (which gave her money) she dumped her husband and started running after the most famous male poet at the time (a muslim). he slept with her once then dumped her without telling her and got a hindu girlfriend instead. she spent the rest of her life running after him. now is a man acted like this after a woman people would say he was a loser and a creep, but Pritam is some how praised as some romance figure and great poet (for one poem?) meanwhile, there was Hindu lady poet - Kamala Das, at the same time. Das was very famous for a number of books (not just one poem). After her husband died, she fell in love with a muslimsand converted to Islam. And guess what? She was blacklisted. No one even bothers to mention her name anymore. Again, double standard? 9. Master Madan- child prodigy at music. Natural gift for singing. was murdered by poising at age of 15. funny, no one ever tied to poison any hindu or muslim singers? 10. Ishmeet Singh- winner of Indias first national TV singing competition. Found drowned in a swimming pool with signs of violence of his body (basically murdered) whilst on tour with other Hindu singers and crew. Again, nothing like this has happened to any Hindu winners? Btw, Ishmeet couldn't swim, so would not have gone into the pool by his own accord. 11. Joyce Pettigrew- anthropologist working in India in the 80s. When she suggested the situation with the Sikhs would be suitable for study, she was beaten and raped. 12. Chandigarh- Panjab has to 'share' Chandigarh with Haryana. No other state in India has to do this. guys add more points if you think of any.
  4. In other thread, while the sikhs were busy waiting about the coming back of Kalki (vishnu 10th avatar) to come and save them --perhaps because the kirpan our dasam pita gave us has rusted , hence we rather wait for the dasam vishnu (kalki) , the rss has launched a fresh attack on sikhi by its usual tactic -- distorting history and assimilation of sikhs into hindu fold. In the new hindu textbooks launched by RSS , Guru Arjan dev ji sahib is called a "Gau bhakt" (cow worshipper) and encourages all hindus to "become" like Guru Gobind Singh , as if Guru Gobind Singh ji were an ordinary mortal . Guru Arjan dev shahadat was a sacrifice for 'Sampoorna Hindu Samaj'. There are also objections to some historical facts represented in these books. Then there're books named 'Guruputra Fateh Singh Zorawar Singh', 'Guru Tegh Bahadur' and 'Guru Gobind Singh' in particular, about whose content there is unrest. Guru Gobind Singh ji , which to us is a guru/prophet has been compared to an ordinary mortal , Shivaji , the founder of maratha empire. This is blasphemy to another level. Sikhi and Khalsa has been reduced to "Hindu power house" (against invaders) in these books Now will you still say "hindus and sikhs have close brotherly relationship" ? "nau maas da rishta" my foot ! Even the author , a hindu brother himself is appaled by the kind of evil agenda and craap in these books . WAKE UP SIKHS ! WAKE UP ! they want to slowly hinduize the coming sikh generations by such education source :http://www.catchnews.com/india-news/how-hindutva-groups-are-provoking-sikhs-by-meddling-in-their-community-affairs-112771.html
  5. Funny how these people always keep whining about how indian govt is anti-hindu and what not ! and the GoI is looting hindu temples and giving that money to madrassas and churches who are converting hindus. Seriously despite having india where they have their ultra nationalist power in center, and nepal and mauritius where they're majority and several other countries around the globe where they're a considerable minority , I am surprised they're still whining ! tch tch
  6. Often I hear like "your roots are hindu" , "you're only 500 yrs old, we're 5000 yrs old" , "we're a much older civilization" or something along those lines . They often feel pride on their primordial origins . I am really sick of hearing same arguments
  7. I am not against Hindus but I need to point out to you how just about all of them believe Sikhi is part of Hinduism. Below are the points they always, always raise in a debate. 1.) Hindus wear janeu, Sikhs kirpan. There is no difference. (This is a recent one). 2.) Because a majority of Hindus became Sikhs it must mean Sikhs are Hindus. 3.) Neo-Nazi Sikhs have changed shabds in Gurbani to suit themselves. (This is where Singh Sabha is slagged off). 4.) Guru Sahib used names of Hindu Gods and Godesses in Gurbani. This means Sikhs are Hindu. (They are getting quite creative with this mean. Bhagauti is supposed to be Bhagwati in Hindi now). I know there are many veers on this forum who could answer this stupidness in their sleep, but I am thinking about creating a whole team to smash their arguments to pieces. Off course their mentality will not let them accept the truth of what we say. Maybe a few blogs, facebook pages can be set up. Social media goes a long way nowdays.
  8. Mockery of Sikhi being made on facebook. I am disgusted by this page "Sikh Facts" I have even had a go at the admin myself but he just isn't stopping. He kept on going on about Sikhs believeing in caste when he was given a refutation now hes started on why the panj piares castes are recorded in Sikhi and so on. Hes also made rude pictures of Sant Bhindranwale and the whole page is a hub to abuse Sikhi. Why are we tolerating this? When a page was made to answer the admin facebook deleted that page after a few months but this page just continues no matter how much it is reported. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Sikh-Facts/430360146974630
