  1. ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂਜੀਕਾਖਾਲਸਾ॥ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂਜੀਕੀਫਤਿਹ॥ Punjab Shiv Sena leader Harvinder Soni has been shot and seriously injured by someone at Fish park, Gurdaspur on Sunday 12th April 2015. Harvinder Soni, who was on a morning walk at Fish Park along with his security personnel, was allegedly shot at by an assailant, Gurdaspur Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gurpreet Singh said. Shiv Sena leader Harvinder Soni was rushed in a critical condition to a nearby hospital, from where he was referred to a hospital in Amritsar. Soni was fired upon by the assailant from a close range as he was walking. His bodyguard was standing at a distance when the attack took place. Assailant Kashmira Singh was arrested and was being questioned. Hospital sources said the condition of Soni was serious and he had been operated upon to take out the bullet from his body. Police have registered a case in this connection and further investigations were on. The Shiv Sena leader was believed to be a key instigator of the violence in Gurdaspur in March 2012 which led to Police killing Shaheed Bhai Jaspal Singh. It is notable that Sikh sangat were holding a peaceful protest in Gurdaspur on March 29, 2012 demanding police action against Harminder Soni and other Shiv Sena activists for beating up Sikh youth and removing their turbans. But instead of taking action against Shiv Sena leaders the police had opened fire on peaceful assembly of Sikh youth. A young Sikh student Jaspal Singh of village Chaur Sidhwan was killed in police firing while another Sikh youth Ranjit Singh was seriously injured.

  3. Gurdaspur, Punjab (April 10, 2014): It is learnt that mother of Jaspal Singh Gurdaspur, who was killed in Punjab police firing on 29 March 2012, has hit Badal Dal’s local MLA with her slipper. “Punjab Police bullets killed Jaspal Singh in March 2012. Finding no justice but police and political pressure in the case even after a year and 24 hours after a court of inquiry handed over clean chit to two senior police officers, the mother of Jaspal Singh took the matter and chappals in her own hands and proceeded to deliver the justice”, YesPunjab.com has noted, in it’s news report. Sarabjit Kaur, mother of Bhai Jaspal Singh Gurdaspur [File Photo] “Gurdaspur SAD MLA Gurbachann Singh Babbehali got it on his face. The MLA was hit with a chappal when he visited Jaspal Singh’s village Chor Sidhwan” YesPunjab report reads. “Babbehali had to face the wrath of the enraged mother of Jaspal Singh Gurdaspur for his alleged role in the case of killing of her son, who was shot dead during police firing on March 2, 2012 ,the day of Punjab Bandh. The Bandh was observed in support of Balwant Singh Rajoana”. “The family and the village folk have been critical of Babbehali’s role after the death of Jaspal Singh. A source said Babbehali had not visited the village since then”. Sarabjit Kaur, the mother of the young college student Jaspal Singh, got enraged on seeing the MLA, who had come to the village to seek votes for SAD-BJP candidate and Bollywood star turned politician Vinod Khanna. Gurbachan Singh Babbehali [File Photo] As Babbehali alighted from his vehicle to enter the house of village Sarpanch Gurmeet Kaur, where he was to attend a meeting, Jaspal Singh’s mother Sarabjit Kaur, who was in a house nearby got furious and rushed to flung a chappal on the MLA. The first chappal she flung on the MLA hit his vehicle but seething with anger and accusing him of his partisan role after her son’s death, Sarabjit Kaur flung the second one which hit Babbehali squarely in the face. Babbehali was then escorted to Sarpanch’s house as Sarabjit Kaur continued to vent her anger verbally. The MLA remained there for about half an hour and then left the village. The development was confirmed to YesPunjab.com by none other than Gurcharanjit Singh, the husband of Sarabjit Kaur and the father of late Jaspal Singh. The family and Sikh organisations have all along been accusing Babbehali of trying to cajole or pressurize the family to withdraw the case wherein police officers and lower rung cops were allegedly involved. It is pertinent to mention here that the Punjab government has dropped the charges against Punjab Police Service officers Varinder Pal Singh and Manpreet Singh in above case only yesterday. The above information was submitted by state of Punjab to the Punjab and Haryana high court on Wednesday. The court was informed that the inquiry conducted by retired additional district and sessions judge BC Gupta had concluded that the charges levelled against Varinder Pal Singh, then SSP at Gurdaspur, and Manpreet Singh, then deputy superintendent of police, Gurdaspur, were not found correct. According to YesPunjab.Com “When contacted Babbehali over his mobile, his PA picked the phone to tell that Babbehali could not talk as he was busy attending election meetings”. When reportedly told that YesPunjab.com wanted to talk to him regarding the incident that happened at village Chor Sidhwan, yesterday, his PA said that nothing had happened in the village and people were spreading rumours.
