    Jhoot

I’m an Amritdhari, whose sangat is majority of non Sikhs, mostly white folk. We like to eat out on a lot and we tend to share our food. One my friends dipped some chips he had bitten into in my sauce. I wasn’t fussed to be honest. It didn’t matter as I love these guys like they’re my own family. But some random person who was an Amritdhari was watching this, came up to me and said that this is wrong and that we shouldn’t eat from the same dish as a non Amritdhari. I was quite offended but I wanted everyone else’s take on this. Is it wrong? Personally I don’t think it is as I haven't been affected by any bad thoughts eating their jhoot.

    Jhoot from a non Sikh

I’m an Amritdhari. Some of my best friends are non-Sikh and white. We socialise a lot in bars and restaurants. We share our food and we are more than happy to eat from the same plate. It doesn’t bother me at all and it doesn’t bother them either. One day an Amritdhari guy randomly approached me at a restaurant when I was with my friends and said that he saw that my non Sikh white friend was eating from the same plate as me and this was jhoot. He said I shouldn’t be doing this as it will cause me to have evil thoughts and change the way I act spiritually. I understood partly where he was coming from, buy by me eating from the same plate as my best friends who don’t share the same beliefs as me makes no difference to me whatsoever. It hasn’t changed me or my thoughts in shape or form after eating from the same plate or even drinking from the same glass as them. My friends were quite offended by this after I told them what he said and felt that he has a low opinion on others who don’t “look the part” and made a judgment on their appearance. What are are your thoughts? Personally I don’t see anything wrong with me sharing food or having each other’s jhoot. To me it shows humility and the love we have for one another. They could easily show discrimination against me on the basis of my appearance or colour but they don’t.
