What does Taksali Mean

Guru Gobind Singh Ji asked Baba Deep Singh Ji and Bhai Mani Singh Ji to teach and educate Sikhs on Gurbaani.

At Sri "Damdama Sahib" (Bathinda, Panjab), Baba Deep Singh was made the head of this educational institute which was to train Sikhs into how to read, pronounce and understand Gurbaani.

"Taksaal" = comes in Sri Japji Sahib.

"Ghareeai Shabad Sachee Taksal"

Mint the True Coin of the Shabad, the Word of God.

Using the analogy of a blacksmith minting coins... Guru Ji says in Japji Sahib to "Mint" the true coin of the shabad... "Damdami Taksaal" was started to help do this task.

Damdami = from place name (Damdama Sahib)

Taksal = literally "Mint/Minting" -- name of the education institution Guru ji started for Sikhs to have oppurtunity to learn Gurbaani.

Taksalis = those who have studied and been trained at Damdami Taksal (which moved from Damdama Sahib to Mehta Chownk, dist. Amritsar)

"Taksali" is not an official label.

It is wot people say as a reference.

There is one Guru (Guru Granth Sahib ji)

There is one Rehat (Hukam of Guru Gobind Singh ji and Khalsa Panth)

There is one Panth (the Khalsa Panth)

Getting attached to labels like Taksali, AKJ or Akali etc are not good and show insecurity of people to have a sense of belonging and be associated to a group... however, little have we realised that the person and label we should be associating ourselves to is "Guru ji" and "Khalsa"

Also naamsar veerji i think ur last comment is stated using western conception of "school" or "college". Perhaps my mistake for stating "school", a better description perhaps would be "Gurmat education centres"
