What Is A "tarran?"

Dear sangat:

My friend has a "pulled" or "moved" "tarran" whatever that is...My friend is straight from Punjab so he couldn't tell me what it means in english..and I know Punjabi pretty well but don't have a clue what this means...supposedly it is below your belly button and jado "tarran" hill jandi ah ta bahut dukh lagda, your supposed to do something to it to stop it from...oh jado hill jandi ah ta rarkan lag paindi ah...could someone tell me what "tarran" is in English...

What area is he from? Duaba, Majha, Malwa, etc.? Language is different in these areas.

doaba..it is spelled in punjabi with a dhadda, not dadda...yeah like naam jaap mentioned you press it down with a kauli or something lying flat and it ges better, does anyone know what the bloody hell this thing is in english? lol

I don't think it is called "nard" naam jaap, or maybe it is different depending on what part of punjab your from..

its not narda, it is dharran, dunno how to explain in english, just one of those words with difficult crossover translation. it is below the belly. supposedly to bring it back in place you massage it back into place or something.

Me don't know what "Dharan/Tarran" is in English ... but my sisters had it a few times and it's real painful. The doc never has a clue what is wrong, but then when we take them to an old punjabi auntie, she rubs the stomach for a bit, and then my sis' are perfectly alright.

It might just be a Punjabi specific thing

I think it's known as your solar plexus. This is the term given by the west who follow alternative therapies.

People who follow Eastern therapies (acupuncture, aurvedya etc) give a lot of focus to the solar plexus.

yeah same here...punjabi aunties smarter than doctors who go to medical school for years..i can just picture it:

Auntie: Putt doctora nu ki pata, oh ta ami teeka la dinde ah, idder ah main teri dharran theek kardi ah..."
