Windows System Error

My other computer has an error. On Boot up a blue screen comes up that reads -

Windows Protection Error. Please restart you computer. System halted_

So basically, i cant even get to my desktop and it just goes on the screen on sstartup.

can any1 help please?

Sounds like the famous bluescreen of death. Think when was the last time your computer booted into Windows and what you did after that. Undo whatever that was (Safe Mode boot). Most cases its installing an incompatible driver that causes this.

Last option I would boot in Safe Mode, back up all my important data and format/install Windows.

thanks, but it doesnt let me go into Safe Mode either, it just restarts once I select it. Infact, none of the modes are working at all. Either the blue screen appears or it just restarts again.

any help?

is there any way that MS-DOS can be accessed on bootup, rather than from the desktop?

You will need to have ms-dos diskette or a windows backup diskette and then you will be able to boot in dos. Another thing is you can blow away everything and load win2000 or higher as the cd will read and load new operating system. What operating system are u using?.

remove all the external hardware from your computer, just leave the mouse and keyboard connected.

Also it could be a bad memory module problem, they tend to bring up windows protection errors. Try taking out the memory modules and removing any dust and then put them back in.

I finally got it working. I put in a startup disk and entered a command in, and it finally recovered!
