its interesting how people saw her as a dictator. how slowly she moved away from democracy. how she crushed her opponents with force. then she lost the election. got a uneducated peoples support again. won again. then turned into a dictator who crushed her opponents again. but the difference was she took it too far this time.

it showed how indira was grim and never showed emotion. she lived in her own world. she was educated (wonder if education is helping her now - in hell).

From the BBC doc, the insurgency did not have the support of the people, they goaded the troops to attack to LATER get the sympathy vote.

LOL The "insurgency" got support on the day of 13 april 1978. when the indian government funded nakli nirankari movement held a procession in amritsar, they shouted blasphemous and downright offensive slogans at the sikh gurus and the sri guru grant sahib, but when sikhs held a peaceful counterprotest, the nakli nirankaris Along the the police decided to attack them. 13 sikhs attained matyrdom. whole crowds of sikhs witnessd the atrocities. non of the nakli nirankaris whr prosecuted (seeing as the police attackd the sikhs as wel no wonder).

As for the "insurgency" goading the facist indian government to attack darbar sahib, hey, do you think the insurgency goaded the army to attack OVER FOURTY OTHER TEMPLES ACROSS PUNJAB? was sant ji at these temples as well as the darbar sahib?

what about the Sikh Reference Library, irreplaceable collection of books, manuscripts, and artifacts bearing on all aspects of Sikh history, burned to ground.

Then The day of the attack itself, on guru arjans day of matyrdom, the day when the golden temple complex would of been at its busyiest.

The media couldnt tell anyone what happend during those few weeks because they wher being rounded up and escorted out of punjab by the military.

Ther was a radio program i think its setill available on the BBC website, bluestar 20yrs on. Its good listening, also would like to add that mark tulli to sant jis speach, and realises that sant ji was not for khalistan.

Atheist, i recomend you read books about the situation, written from non-bias prospectives. Cynthia keppley mahmoods, fighting for faith and nation is a good book.

but it did show how the government did nothing as the riots happened

The goverment did something, they organised it and used the police to carry it out.

If youve listened to Mark tullis 20yrs on from bluestar, a radio program on BBC online he does an interview with some former government minister (i think). he said he had no doubt that members of the government had organised the carnage, and that he witness teams of rioters led by the police looting sikh ownd buisnesses.

on a serious note I was expecting worse....its obvious BBC bias against Sikhs espcially to do with Sikh seperatism was there but on the whole it concentrated on her life and did pick up on her role in corruption/dictorship.

Ironically she gives examples of how pakistani's were treating the west pakistan bengali's in comparison to hitler and jews yet a decade later she does exactly the same thing to the Sikh community and since operation blue star and the anti-sikh pograms she has become to the us what hitler was to the jews.

I'd like to see the BBC make a unbiased program that highlights the conditions that created seperatism like they used to do for other seperatists (Chechyna, Kashmiri, Tamil Tigers, Basque, Kurds, Tibets, Palestianian, Tajiks, Uzbekz, etc). But perhaps thats asking for too much for low quality broadcasting service.

hey jss,

there are non-amritdharis who are focusing on the negative aspects of Indira gandhi rather than the positive ones, care to step in. After all, it should be said, right?

These people are all talk, we should all take amrit before talking negative about Indira Gandhi. She was very well educated like Manmohan Singh is.

Yeh me saw the proggie last night.

I wern't surprised by either tully or kushwants comments on sant ji.

Tully is always trying to make sant ji out to be some kind of evil person who only had hate an the thing with sant ji having an evil look in his eye no.gif

An kushwant. My grandad never liked him an i always used to wonder why he used to be swearing at the tv everytime this geeza came on. Well notice how he said sant ji was just a no body an just a person from a farming family with not much. How can he say such a thing. Sant ji was a somebody and a big part in the sikh future. What happened was in 84 and from that day on and now forever sant ji will be remembered.

Have u noticed how whenever kushwant is on tv he is always wearing the exactly the same clothes. LOL.gifLOL.gifLOL.gif

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
