Panj Ishnaan OR WUZU COMPRISES OF :

1. first wash hands and then wash mouth and spill the water out.

second put finger in nose and clean it.

third pour water in hands and then let the water go down arms and do the same thing on other arm.

fourth wash the face 3 times and wash behind ears 3 times.

fifth wash feet 3 times.

wuzu is complete.

it is not for sikhs

it was made by ANOTHER PROPHET PROPHET MOHAMMAD SAHIB WHO STARTED MUSLIM RELIGION

AS WE KNOW MUSLIMISM WAS FOUND IN MIDDLE EAST PART OF THE WORLD

WHERE THERE R MOSTLY DESERTS AND WATER IS IN SHORTAGE

SO A FULL BATH OF BODY IS NOT POSSIBLE AS WATER IS IN SHORTAGE EVEN FOR DRINKING.

AS FOR SIKHS WE HAVE A FULL BATH ATLEAST ONCE A DAY AT START OF OUR MORNING

This is not the same as Wuzu (also there is nothing such as MuslimISM!!!)

Punj Ishnaan refers to the washing of hands (2), feet (2) and face (1) = (5)!

It should not replace a full ishnaan, but is something that no doubt came into prominence during our historical past when situations were more dire.

Today, we are recommended (by the Taksal for instance) to have Punj Ishnaan before reciting sohila at night and more generally, before having Darshan of Maharaj in his Darbar.

There are no specified rules for this, no matter what elaborate RITUALS our friends at Tapoban may decide to cook up for this (like they have done for "Ishnaan di Seva")

please do not do chugli of tapoban singhs/singhnia, if u have anything to say to them say it to their face. tapoban gurdwara tries to follow as much gurmat as possible and follow as much rehit as possible. so leave em alone

Just my personal opinion on this::

i would like to do 5nj ishnani of my mind...

ishnaan in the sagar of "gurbani"

and my 5nj's are

be "kaam,krodh,lobh,moh,ahankaa"

5nj ishnani is to take the dirt off from your body parts so, even thou u took shower earlier but because of the "hardwork" your hands feet face gets dirty. Thou it is necessary to wash of the dirt of the outer body and it should be done, but at the same time we should have 5nj ishnaani of our "mann" so jad assi Guru sahib dei darbar vich jayiyei, assi "swach" hoyiyei..

Khima jeo,

daas,

Barik.

Yeah, more "cooked up" maryada from tapoban,

Punj Ishnana (as someone mentioned, 2 hands, 2 feet and face) is not something new. Before going into Guru Sahib's Darbar or holding a pothi, it's something thats done. It is refreshing and also cleansing.

What's the problem with it?

Sure do ishnan of your man but that certainly doesn't mean don't do ishnaan of your body as well.

Oh and what is "ishnaan di seva"? I'm curious.

I also find it really funny that these people like Naranjan who go on about love everyone and the fundamentalists hate too much, just randomly bring up these hateful bitter comments out of nowhere where they have absolutely no relevance.

ya exaclty, well said. i was told panj ishnaan is washing feet (1), down below (2), mouth/teeth(3), face (4), hands (5) end of the day do what you feel hapy with! i prefer doing panj ishnaan before sleeping and reciting Gurbani in the sense that it's cleansing not as a ritual

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
