Who is organizing it in Toronto?

It was discussed with Singh's associated with the Damdami Taksal last Sunday. The United Sikh Federation are also aware of the protest and been asked to get involved. Should learn later today about a meeting called of the Sikh Youth in Toronto. There was talk of a large protest in Toronto and possibly smaller protests in Brampton, Mississauga etc.

With the Canadian elections to take place in late January it was suggested as many politicians as possible from all the main political parties should be asked to get involved wherever protests are being organised.

As you are probably from Canada could I suggest you pass the word around as it would be good to get things happening more quickly. Have also been contacted by somebody from Toronto studying in Detroit who suggested a protest in Windsor (Canada) and Detroit. London (Canada) has also been mentioned.

The Toronto egroups are currently silent on protests.

For your town/city please email exact location of protest, time of protest, local contact name for further information and his/her telephone number so a 'customised' flyer can be produced and posted on the Internet.

Please email details to Harjinder Singh or Ravinder Kaur on harjinder_2004@hotmail.com or rai_rav@hotmail.com.

Please copy me in jagtarkhalsa@yahoo.com.

SLOUGH FLYER is shown below:

The candle light protest in SLOUGH will be taking place outside the main entrance for the Queensmere Shopping Centre between 5-7pm on 17 January 2006. Some of you may have seen the recent BBC 2 programme - Make Slough Happy.  The vigil will be in exactly the same location as the concluding events for Making Slough Happy.

MPs from Slough, Windsor, Maidenhead and surrounding areas should be invited to attend the vigil if possible.  Alternatively, ask the MPs to take part in the vigil outside the Houses of Parliament in London.

All MPs should be urged to join Sikhs outside and light a candle to show their support.

For those in Slough feeling a bit hard done by, without a picture of the location of the protest outside the Queensmere Shopping Centre:

International poster with around 25-30 contact names and numbers will be produced this week and should be available on-line sometime tomorrow.

Please ring the person(s) named for the country you live in to find out the latest and to help organise your local Candle Light Vigil.

The standard postcard for distribution on the Worldwide Day of Protest on 17 January 2006 will be avaliable in the UK from Saturday 24 December.

The postcards will be avaliable after the Bhog of Sri Akhand Paath - Saturday 24th December 2005 to mark the First Barsi of Baba Thakur Singh Ji at

Gurdwara Nanaksar

4 Wellington Street,

Pleck,

Walsall,

West Midlands

See the image below of the front of the postcard

The front of the postcard has been slightly revised - the date 17 January 2006 has been added. This is because the postcards will be made available as planned after the Bhog of Sri Akhand Paath in Walsall - Saturday 24th December 2005 to mark the First Barsi of Baba Thakur Singh Ji.

Although the postcards should be distributed mainly to non-Sikhs on 17 January where candle light vigils are taking place it has been assumed that a small proportion will also be circulated to Sikhs in advance to raise awareness of the event.

Currently, the postcards made available on Saturday will be primarily for those that have already organised candle light vigils for 17 January - London, Slough, Leicester, Derby . . .

So Sikhs in Birmingham, Bradford, Bristol, Cardiff, Coventry, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Gravesend, Huddersfield, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle, Nottingham, Southampton, Walsall, Wolverhampton etc. please pull out all the stops in the next few days so 'customised' flyers can be produced with venues, times and local contact details.
