(to the one dearest admin...lollllll........didnt know where else to place this topic/ question)

Smoking....nasha....amritdharis need to remain away from.

A very close friend smokes frequently throughout the day...we'll have lunch ...after which she needs to have a smoke or two...ive seen her go out 6 or 7 times in the day....

Now we have to work together on most things during lectures/tutorials and group work..she sits next to me often too. I say jokingly I don't wanna passive smoke man...its making me dizzy...but she can't exactly go away...we have to work together...shes a best mate.

Not an easy situation..when we're outside the building and waiting with a couple of my nonsmoker friends its okay..but in class and canteen....i worry about my kirpan etc being in such close proximities of the smell of tobacco etc.

I'm not smoking...but can smell. I nearly actually felt weirded out once cause her smoke caught me in the face...and for a person that doesnt smoke its like a wake up alarm!

Any suggestions of keeping distance but still remaining close....Impossible yeps!

I'm suggesting she quits alllll the time...she cuts down sometimes but not altogether. She's a really really nice person at heart and one that can be turned away from that sort of life.......

don't even suggest dont be friends with her...thas not a option...

dont be freinds with her.

it is an option, bcos inhaling smoke is not an option if u have took amrit. its a very big thing even if it is passive.

Its not passive at all...thats only happened once and I kinda put my foot down saying look man thas not on you got to stay away from me when ur doing that..since which she does smoke away....

im talking bout afterwards...should we still interact as friends...sometimes there is no tobacco smell sometimes there is. Funny moment once she smelt really bad and i lifted my chair and went 5 spaces away to sit with another girl...lollllll......luckily she didnt take offence. Sangat is everything i know that...apart from her all the rest are amazing freinds...but to say thas it no longer we're friends..that kills the whole circle of friends and life of classroom of peace.

maybe a sister may wanna share a view!

ill try, but please forgive me for any mistakes i make.

you've spoken to her about not smoking infront of you.

and you also said that when she smelt strongly of cigarettes you moved away but she didn't mind?

so maybe you should just move away from her when the smell really gets to you.

she'll understand why, n hopefully when she realises how much it stinks she might stop?

if the worst comes to the worst, you could just buy her some Febreze! :)

penj, alot of people in my college smoke..and some of them used to be close friends of mine.when i took amrit i started to mind the smell of smoke around me and would purposely not go anywhere where i knew people would be smoking.

one day i was outside talking to quite a close mate of mine...and she started smoking.i said to her bluntly that i dont like smoking and could she not smoke when i'm there, because it rele gets to me.

she didnt mind at all.

penji, if this girl rele is a close friend then she'll have no problem not smoking when ur around.u've jus gotta tell her SERIOUSLY that u rele cant stand it.she'll get the message.

well to disgusie the smell you could maybe offer her gum or something and make sure she washes her hands afterwards and also like get her to spray herself with perfume or deodorant or something? blush.gif hope it helps!

but like also carry on convincing her to stop smoking like not just from a Sikhi p.o.v. but like health wise etc

my dear sis,

Your friend smokes only 6-7 a day that u know of…

It will and I can guarantee you be 10 pack a day then 20 then 30 for ever and ever until it kill her and that’s a fact …

“Smoking kills………”

Things happen for a reason, she is lucky that you care and if you could care just a little bit more, help her to understand that every time she smokes she is filling her lungs up with tar, dark brown/blackish gunge. And it is filing up her air sacks in her lungs every single time…

I smoked 20+ every day for over 20 years every every single day, and it took the doctor to tell me stop or else to finally get me to stop, I have now stopped and it is amazing that people are still smoking..

Look at the packet any packet of cigs it says grin.gif

“smoking kills..”

Pls help her to stop, tell her to check out a site

“why quit.com” and help to educate her into what smoking does.

The worst are x smokers because they know the danger.

You know sri guru gobind’s horse would not go through a tobacco field, seemed that the horse had sense............ d_oh.gif

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
