Converting To Sikhism

I am a white man harboring a desire to become a sikh my question is will I have to wear a beard and turban if I become a sikh and will I be accepted by the punjabi community as a sikh?

Dont worry about getting accepted by Punjabis...Sikhi is not dependent on the punjabies..take it other way and try to accept punjabi sikhs once you will be a sikh from mind to start up with! :lol:

Sikhi is more about inside and outside appearace will change in no time if you are sikh from inside

in Sikhi the inside (living a truthful life, meditation etc) is just as important as the outside (appearance) and i don't see why you shouldn't be accepted but if Guru ji accepts you then what more do you need :lol:

Being accepted by the punjabi community is debatable, but you *will* be accepted by other Sikhs.

The punjabi community itself still has old caste systems and traditions in place.

Practicing Sikhs do not acknowledge these distinctions.

Having said that you will meet plenty of people dressed as Sikhs that do acknowledge caste, these are usually people who are "Sikhs" only through birth and see the Gurdwara as a social event rather than a place of bettering oneself.

To be a true Sikh you have to have uncut hair on your body, beard included, and have to wear a turban (dastaar).

singh, ma uncle is a sikh hu used 2 be white, n every1 knows him! hes actually quite wel known, ppl know more bout him than i do.

the panjabi culture is mashed, they dnt accept even their own sons n daughters. so dont worry about them.
