Dont worry about getting accepted by Punjabis...Sikhi is not dependent on the punjabies..take it other way and try to accept punjabi sikhs once you will be a sikh from mind to start up with!

Sikhi is more about inside and outside appearace will change in no time if you are sikh from inside

All the best for your journey towards Akal Purak/God!

Being accepted by the punjabi community is debatable, but you *will* be accepted by other Sikhs.

The punjabi community itself still has old caste systems and traditions in place.

Practicing Sikhs do not acknowledge these distinctions.

Having said that you will meet plenty of people dressed as Sikhs that do acknowledge caste, these are usually people who are "Sikhs" only through birth and see the Gurdwara as a social event rather than a place of bettering oneself.
