u know wid all this bird flu stuff.... it is said that lyk if one bird in an area has been diagnosed with bird flu all the birds in that area are killed.

do u fink god has given us the right to do that? how do we know we have superioty ova all other creatures and beings on this creation? does it say newher in the Guru Granth Sahib Ji dat humans can kill anything or use everything in means to an end? shud we not give Gods gifts (other beings) intrinsic value (value within themselves) rather than Instrumental value (valueing what they do for us)?

jst wanted to know where sikhi stands on tht

I'll simplyfy Its either them or us. As much as you are to have compassion for other life, at the same time you have the right to defend your own. Given the current situation, we are not talking about a minor flu, this thing could wipe out 100s of millions of people world wide. Is it the birds fault that this virus is here, not really. Given that the Influenza virus itself mutate every year and in some cases to a more deadlier version of the previous it is only 'natural' (probably due to our own actions) that we are seeing this version of it.

As for bringing Religioin into this from a moral standpoint. I would certainly take a sidestep so the human life which is more precious and valuable is protected. There is the obvious thought that what did those birds do to deserve this...well it again comes down to either you take a moral issue and let them live where the virus has time to develop further and kill off a good percentage of the world population or you can kill hundered thousand birds to save your next child. It certainly is a difficult decision to make, but at the end of the day humal life is more precious then a birds simply due to the potential it posseses. The fault is most likely ours. The karma is also applicable on a grander scale. The Karma in the actions of world as a whole also produces results...the hatred, the selfishness as a whole do not go unchecked. That is why it is said to light yourself first and by lighting yourself you will have brightened the world. it is only then that you are able to light others. If only we as individuals understand this and begin to reform our own thoughts and action. The world is what we all make of it.

i think killin birds for tht purpose is rite.. because their givin the flu shot for a purpose.. so it wont spread and take an effect on the human race... so thts why their killin them.. and NO i dont think it has anythign to do with god, because we kill bugs/insects/animals practically everyday..

Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa!

Waheguroo jee kee Fateh!

This is a difficult subject. While I agree that some culling is important and required to help prevent its spread, I sometimes see a little bit of going overboard... like when they literally slaughter an entire country worth of birds because their was one "unconfirmed" case.

Waheguroo jee ka Khalsa!

Waheguroo jee kee Fateh!

The more important question is what is the will of God?

Why would we sit idle when we have the ability to protect life, what makes us so certain that it is Gods 'will' to let all these people die when we could save them? Perhaps it is Gods 'will' for us to save all these people?

To distinguish what is and what isn't God's will one needs a Vivek Budhi, utter awareness of the divine in every moment of ones life. To see what the physical eye cannot see, the sense what the 5 senses cannot.

There are two ways Guru Ji describes it.

a) Whatever we done is our karam,so this is what will happen

b) All is under God's Will

IMHO, Guru ji seems to refer to the different avasthas of beings. Right now, as moorakhs, we are stuck in the cycle of Good doings lead to good and bad deeds lead to bad..

But once you realise, and reach a higher spiritual level, you will 1st let go off bad thoughts, then good thoughts too. At this stage, the wavelength at which you think is at the same wavelength as Akal Purakh Waheguru Ji Themself.

Then, you shall become One with Them and you will escape the cycle of good and bad.. Leading onto a life where you live accoridng to Guru Ji. This is how your "sell your soul", as Gurbani says. You don't think, you let Guru Ji think for you.

Anyways, back to our normal moorakh selves, well our good past deeds and bad past deeds lead us to have a good/bad life. So, MAYBE the animals were already destined to be slaughtered.

But this arises the question "what about incidents like murder/rape? Are they works of God?"

Hope I helped.
