Breaking Up.....

I have been dating a Sikh guy for 9 months, (I am a white american girl) we had a bit of trouble nothing to do with his religion, I admired him for being so strong in his faith and even accepted it for myself) however, his niavete and immaturity got the best of me, possibly I could have overreacted, I thought that we had a chance of a future together, but with much thought I realized that he should be with some one of not only his culture, but religion, age, etc...

I feel horrible in a sense, but a sense of relief in the other, relief that he does not have to deal with an american girlfriend, cause I am sure that is hard in itself and time for him to find himself, what he wants in life...

I am not sure why I am writing, but I have been a lurker here for sometime and have always enjoyed the words of inspiration...

You did what you felt was the right thing and now that the decision is made, try to move on.

If you feel some kind of a connection to the Sikh religion, then I would encourage you to read more about it. Maybe read passages from Sri Guru Granth Sahib (the scripture) at www.sikhitothemax.com or www.srigranth.org.

I don't believe in taking on a religion just because your partner is one, only if you have a genuine conviction.

Also, Sikhi is a faith that is not bound by race/caste/age/culture.

Anyways, good luck to you and hopefully everything will work out for the best (with God in charge, that goes without saying I guess...)

I did not mean I was that I was interested in Sikhism just because of him...I was introduced to it by him, I would probably never been exposed to Sikhism otherwise, and did research and went to the temple myself. Anyhow, I do still love him, we maybe taken our relationship too fast. Breaking up was the last thing on my mind, but I had already said it, and it was done...I feel quite stupid now, because there is no genuine reason other than my overreaction.....

thanks for all the kind words
