The story revolves around Sikh-Diaspora. It is a depiction of the internal landscape of their psyche, state of mind and attitudes.

‘Kambdi Kalaai’, the film is focused on the state of oscillation of human mind, which makes it difficult to grasp the truth. The title song, ‘Supne vich Tusin Mile Assanu’ is the superb creation of the master metaphysical Punjabi Poet Dr. Bhai Vir Singh. The song is wonderful depiction of his spiritual experience. Metaphorically, the same has been used for the ethical righteousness which we find difficult to attain due to lack of steadfastness.

Set up in the back ground of New York, the film explores how faith and human relationship mingle together to create an everlasting impact on the human psyche.

Yes, I've seen it. It premiered out here on Friday, where they showed it for free at Naaz 8 theaters, but my parents bought it at the Guruduaara Saahib on Sunday.

It's the story of a white lady (Ida) who meets a Sardar (Gurmukh) and they kind of develop a crush sort of thing over time. However, Ida is extremely interested in Sikhi, and Gurmukh's grandfather lends her some books and things.

At the same time, Gurmukh's family has chosen a boy for Bhani, his sister, a man named Roop Singh. Bhani has known him for a year, but when they show up at Gurmukh and Bhani's house, he has shaved off nearly his entire beard. There's an emotional, dramatic scene where Bhani kind of loses it at the shock of Roop committing such bedbi of his kes.

Gurmukh questions his faith as Bhani defends it, and Ida grows to love it more. Bhani manages to change Roop, and he begins to keep his beard again. At the end of the movie, he also defends Bhani and her family against his very materialistic mother (or was she someone's chachi.. kind of forgotten lol).

After affirming their love for one another, Ida tells Gurmukh that she cannot marry him unless he cuts his beard. So he goes and does just that. When he goes to see Ida afterward, he tells her that he is ready now to marry her, but Ida makes an amazing proclamation, saying that 'If you cannot remain true to your faith, then how can you remain true to me?' (not those words, perhaps..)

And that's that
