Guest Distressed Family!

Hey Peeps! I was wonderin if you could provide any advice in controling my 3 year old nephew who just goes out of control when we go Gurdwara. He justs screams soo much, runs around and ends up wacking Sangaat and stuff and it has forced us to stop going Gurdwara with him, we cant go as a family anymore because someone has to stay at home with him.

If you shout at him he gets worse, A slap just results in him screaming louder and crying at the top of his lungs and softly softly approach doesnt seem to work either.

HELP! no.gif

he probably just hyperactive. Stop feeding him all sources of Sweets. no more Sugar for that little guy.

Is it just the Gurudwara or anywhere?

he might be getting really spoiled at home... or the exact opposite..he might not be getting any attention at all.

iether way, being in a large group of people might make him act up so that he gets attention.

also..the parents have to be strong willed...yeah yeah it's their lil bacha, but if they don't instill solid behaviour in him from the bginning, he's not gonna randomly learn it as he grows up...so they need to lay down the law with the kid... and that doesn't necessarily mean hitting.. but they gotta instill a level of "fear" in the child towards the parents... kinda like a gursikh's relation with God.

i think the ideal situation is to take the child to houses where guru granth sahib ji's suroop is and role play with the child

teach them about guru granth sahib ji and tell the child that guru ji is the king, the master

you might be helping your nephew for his whole lifetime if you have him practice his gurdwara etiquette. when he grows up he will be more focused in the gurdwara. just don't scare him because that could SCAR him mentally. he could develop a negative impression of the gurdwara. it should be with love and with kind words.

however discipline is also necessary. it seems like he doesn't have respect for rules and he's already getting spoiled. so watch a few episodes of Super Nanny and you might learn a few tricks on how to train kids to be calmer

have the kid undergo testing...he might be suffering from ADHD-hyperactivity subtype from what you're describing...treatment than can commence asap (not necessarily putting him on methylphenidate Ritalin..but he can undergo therapy and his parents can undergo training as to how to manage hyperactive kids.) best to get him diagnosed early so the sooner treatment commences, the quicker he "recovers".

and Pheena, sugar isn't a cause of hyperactivity in kids..studies have contradicted that finding. so please dont deny the kid his sweets

He does it at Home aswell but you can shout at him and control him better then at the Gurdwara because you havent got Sangaat to worry about who you might be disturbing at the Gurdwara.

And we follow the methods of Super Nanny he even has a naughty step at the Gurdwara but he just keeps running off again or screaming which everyone can hear. We have tried the option of getting him used to the enviroment and stuff by going to Gurdwara when it is quiet or if someone has Maharaj Ji in thier home...nothing works!

ADD is an reason we have been looking at recently because everyone has tried with him but he still doesnt learn the only time he is sitting is if he is eating Degh and then 5 mins later he is off again
