It better be a 5* hotel

whether it be a 5 * hotel or not, it is beadbi to take Guruji were there is meat or alcohol. Please think before making this thread into a comical one.

The Guruji lives in a world full of meat and alcohol what difference does it make if its a street away or a few meters away :@

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh!

Akhoza, would you personally take Mahraj's Saroop on your head into a hotel and do Mahraj's parkash there yourself. Not a Granthi but you yourself! If so then that's your choice, expect resistance from Sikhs who would be offended by your actions.

Can't stop you having your opinion, this topic has been discussed many times over and it's not worth re-starting a debate. You either see this as beadbi or your don't. Good luck to you..

well we don't want to get intothe meat debate again... but he does have a valid point, but at least we can try to make sure we don't bring the guru granth sahib ji in an unclean enviroment on purpose.

Some sikhs went to the hotel to talk to susan the wedding manager. She said its between you and the bride's family she doesn't care what happens during their anand karaj. They cant do anything about it. So if anyone can give me the gurudwara's info where the saroop will be taken from we can talk to them.

Could the respect we have for the Guru Granth Sahib Ji be interpreted by some non-Sikhs as a form of idol worship

Are we more worried about the non-Sikh world or our Guru?

Again it our own choice, we can spend all our life justifying out existance to the non-Sikh world.

Lionchild, why do you think they are having the Anand Karaj ceremony in the Hotel? Don't you think it's because of their convenience so that the party can carry on without any hitches?

There was a time when a Sikh would travel hundreds, maybe thousands of miles, to have darshan of Guruji. Today the "sikh" wants Guru Ji to come to them so that their programme runs to their desired schedule. Even if it means bringing the Saroop of our Guru to a place where alcohol, meat and tabbacco are served, where dancing takes place, in short where manmat activities are promoted.

In the hotel, Guru Ji would be treated as nothing more than an idol. After the ceremony is over they will whisk Guru Ji's Saroop off so that the reception can commence.

There are at least 6 Gurdwaras in Florida (http://www.geocities.com/gurdwaraworld/florida.html). Why can't they accomodate the wedding. The party can still carry on in the hotel.

Simple and easy thing which we can all do - COPY & PASTE the below letter template and PRESS SEND.

Dear Mariott Hotel,

I am emailing you in regards to a wedding which has been booked for 5.30pm on 17th June 2006 at Coral Springs Mariott Hotel, 11775 Heron Bay Blvd., Coral Springs, Florida 33076, USA.

The marriage party is planning to have a Sikh religious wedding ceremony in the Mariott Hotel, which will involve bringing 'Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji', the Sikhs' Sacred Scripture, which the Sikhs regard with utmost reverence and sanctity. The Sikh's Supreme Authority has banned the Sacred Scripture, Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, from being taken to places where there is alcohol, tobacco or meat served. It clearly has been said that Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji is not allowed to be taking to banqueting halls, hotels, pubs or bars. Therefore, this a clear violation of the Sikhs religious sentiments.

There have been previous cases recently where families planning weddings have disregarded the sanctity and sacredness of the Sikh's Scripture and have violated the edict of the Sikh supreme authority. In the UK These incidents have led to large peaceful protests outside venues with Sikhs from across the country coming to support these measures, and also police involvement and support.

The British police have been supportive of the Sikh community. Recently the police issued a statement that a Sikh wedding planned at the Royal Lancaster Hotel London was re-arranged, so that the wedding will take place in a nearby Sikh Gurdwara (place of worship) rather than in the hotel complex. The decision of stopping the Sikh wedding at the Hotel came about as the Hotel was overflown with Sikhs from across the UK phoning, and emailing trying to educate the Hotel about the Sikh sentiments and issue.

We hope you will also realise the seriousness of the issue and prevent any unnecessary large peaceful protests.

Here are some links to news articles regarding previous cases which have cause unnecessary hassle to the Sikh community:

* http://www.panthic.org/news/131/ARTICLE/1450/2005-06-19.html

I hope you take this matter severely, and prevent any unnecessary peaceful protests by the Sikh community from Florida and other states by not allowing the disrespect and violation of the Sikh's sacred scripute, Guru Granth Sahib Ji, from happening on your hotel premises.

I would like a reply as soon as possible, as Sikhs across the country are planning to hold peaceful protests outside the hotel if the Sacred Scriptures, Guru Granth Sahib Ji, is brought to the Hotel complex.

Regards,

[YOUR NAME]

any update on the situation?

from discoversikhi.com forum:

We've exhausted many options. Talking to the hotel didnt work. We personally talked to the family as did many other families but they arent budging. The wedding is this Saturday and there is a huge lack of interest in our sangat. There are only 3-4 people who are seriously concerned about this. We would appreciate any outside help or suggestions on how to deal with this issue. We hope this can be resolved but we need help!

Right now we are attempting to organize a protest but there are only about eight individuals interested.. 4 of which are under the age of 17.

Sangat Ji we still have time to turn this around!!

Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji!!
