kundalini yoga

Just finished watching a programme on BBC in the UK regarding reaching enlightenment. It was done by Mick Jaggers ex wife (have already forgotten her name). During the show she went to see a sikh convert known as Gurmukh in the US she is aged 60 years and wears a white dastaar. She was teaching kundalini yoga which she has learned from Yogi Harbhajan Singh. She says she teaches madonna, al pachino and cindy crawford.

Although she did not look anything over 40, wore a khanda and dastaar, and said alot of the Sikh mantars she had a picture of baba Balaknath in the room. I know that 3HO is very multi faith but the questions arise;

Who are these people?

Is she really Sikh?

Does Kundalini Yoga work?

What relevance does it have?

Where can we learn this sort of yoga?

How many of you believe in it?

Can anyone out there help.

when i first heard about 3ho...i thought they were messed up cuz that's what everyone told me....and a lot of negative stuff is written about them on the net...

but... i have since met a Sikh who was introduced to sikhi throught 3ho...he's actually the Sikh representative at the university...

and throught conversations with him...i didn't get the impression that they think of Yogi Bhajan as higher the Guru Granth Sahib...

whenever he talks he quotes Guru Granth Sahib and NOT yogi bhajan...

that said...this Singh does have a lot of respect for Yogi Bhajan which is understandable cuz he introduced him to sikhi...

it's the respect you'd pay to any gurmukh who has made your love for sikhi and Guru Granth Sahib grow more...

that said..i'm not a 3ho follower... my opinion has just changed from a negative one to not really having an opinion about them....not positive or negative...they probably do stuff that's different from mainstream sikhi...but there's a lot of stuff in sikhi that isn't a hundred percent agreed on....

so...i guess we should just do our best to follow the Guru's teachings and not bother ourselves with others...

also if you really do want to find out about them...you gotta go talk to people who are part of 3ho...there's a lot of stuff written about everyone out there...

there are people who think Sant Jarnail Singh ji was wrong...but we know that's not true...there are people who have problems with Bhai Randhir singh...but we don't believe that either...you're always gonna run into people who have nothing good to say about someone...

so you gotta do your research thoroughly and get to konw them

before making up your mind....

that's probably why i don't have an opinion on them cuz i dont know them well enough...remember anyone can post anything on the net....doesn't make it authentic information...

and to Khalistani veera...

you say they are messed up and you respect Akal takt at the same time...i was under the impression that Yogi Bhajan was named Singh Sahib for the western hemisphere by Akal takt...

just something to think about....

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
