Veerjee.. It's very wrong to say listening to other "CLEAN" music is NOT allowed or it's like a BAD thing.. We manmat ppl can't say to others what is wrong or what is right unless we fully cleaned our souls like bhai sahib Randhir singh ji, sant kartar singh ji, sant jarnail singh ji etc.. . Yes, listening to other music is waste of time, so is sleeping, spending time with family, eating etc.. We waste 5 to 8 hours daily in sleep and it's pretty much waste of time and i don't hear any topic on our thread saying sleeping is manmat and it should be avoided and we all know (at least me) sleeps for like at least 8 hrs and i know most of the other members of this forum sleep like me blush.gif

I did went to the DJ clubs/gigs once or twice but i never felt that i belong to those kind of places, so i never went again.. maybe the daily prachar at my gurudwara sahib (which we as kids used to call it boring) already worked on my soul and that might be the reason my soul rejected such places.. Prachar should happen in such places but we should try to catch the attendance in other places, not necessarly in clubs. Prachar should work on Sikh kids before they even know the names of such places. Secondly, keeping in mind of "Hatred" thread, we simply cannot hate anyone who just goes to clubs and love to chill and may do some non-sikhi stuff. If we hate them or if our body language shows that we hate them, its clear that they gonna drift away from sikhi more and more and at some point they will start calling us or most of us "Fanatics". etc..

My simple advice is that we shouldn't keep grudge against tigerstyle or the clubbing ppl just because they have slightly different lifestyles or views from you/us/religious minded youth. We should see everybody with equal eye. See them same as you see a bana wearing nihang at raenshabaey. If you respect other ppl lifestyle or their views, you will get the same in return.

Sorry if i offended anyone.

blush.gif GurSikhs, I have been reading some of the interesting points, just wanted to add a few points of my own, these are probably not for everyone, just what I think:

1) As far as I know, and read, and heard on interviews, Tigerstyle donot play the shaheedi tracks in clubs (it also says so on the album)

2) Someone said do we want Quantity or quality - WHY NOT BOTH? why Do you have to choose? Say, you have Mr X who is not well known doing gurmat parchar to youngsters, and now you have Mr Y (who every youngster looks up to or identifies with or thinks they're cool). If Mr Y starts to do Gurmat Parchar it will reach a lot more youth and engage alot more youth CONVERTING QUANTITY to QUALITY ultimately. I like the point of the lotus, the way I see this is as refining uncut jewels :T:

3) Whether, as a whole, we agree or not, I think especially in the UK some "non-orthodox" methods are badly needed for the youth - cos in short most are "lost" and if this form of "music (loosely used)" helps even 1 GurSikh identitfy it's worth it

4) As far as Club Dj'ing, wrong or right, we can't judge at the end of the day. If they are making an honest living and living their own lives in a GurSikh fashion perhaps in time they may want to stop all this ....we can't speak for people who aren't here!

Agree or disagree, just my 2 pence worth

Personally seeing Tigerstyle in a club inspired me to find out about Sikhi more and they sort of kept me in check in a club once... I remember early on in my life someone offered me a drink and I was tempted but I remember one of them shock their head at me which kind of made me think about what I was doing. Its good to see someone with a Distaar in a club. Before then I was under the assumption that all Religous Sikhs never knew how to have fun and thought that all types of Bhangra Music was the Devils creation.

Why cant an AmritDhari go into a club? The way Sikhi is going Amritdhari's who work with people who drink and smoke will be frowned upon!!! Where has this new found attitude of segregation come from? We are not Hermits who cant even socialise with people wether it be in a bar or club? Yes, we gain nothing spritually from going into a club but we gain strength to not be tempted by intoxicants etc, If you think you are too weak to go into a club situation and avoid these things then dont go; but I personally am confident in my identity and faith and do not fear going into that kind of setting.

If current trends continue, Amritdharis will only be mingling with other Amritdharis. Isnt that being elitist? Sometimes you guys use the word Manmukhs in the same context Muslims use Kaffir. Some places where non- Amritdharis hang out isnt that bad.

Sorry If I offended.

Well veerji, i do understand what ur saying when u talk about segregation and us getting too comfortable in our small boxes. But i think the reason why most Gursikhs would never step foot inside a club is because of the environment, everything inside the club scene is anti-gurmat and is pretty disgusting for someone who wakes up for Amritvela everyday and listen to Gurbani that tells us to avoid these sort of situations.

We all are on a different level of understanding true spirituality and some of us who are still at the early stages want to avoid situations that might take us away from our desired path.

If u find it hard to understand, listen to kirtan, listen to the gurus message (humility, control of ones desires, purity) then switch over and listen to punjabi music (gabroo punjabi, drooling over a woman, drinking), its the difference between heaven and hell.

But if one can into that environment, hold their own by not indulging in anti-gurmat activities and inspire others to get on the right path, then i'd say more power to them!
