Whats the reason behind 2 keski's?

I've been told that everytime you go to the gurdwara you should always wear 2 keskis and not 1. I remember being in a discussion at my local gurdwara where i was told that you should wear 2 keskis or, 1 keski and a dastaar cos to get into the akaal takhat sahib you need to be wearing 2.

I don't know if anyone has watched the new film 'dharam di chaadar' produced by hardeep singh (the amar khalsa dude) - i just watched it at the gurdwara today. This film is set around Guru Teghbahadur jee's shaheedi. In this film there's a scene when a moghul messenger goes to a hindu wedding and orders them to take off their dastara because only moghuls have the right to wear such a crown.

So i was thinking that as Guru Gobind Singh jee always did the opposite to what the moghuls did maybe thats why we have to also wear keski's/dastaara; not 1 but 2.

Correct me if i'm wrong.

I was just reading the rehat on http://www.damdamitaksal.com/lit_rehat.htm and this is what it says

"For the respect of your hair, two turbans are to be tied, tying each layer one at a time. There should be a small turban tied underneath and a larger one tied above this. Women must not plait their hair and should keep their hair tied in a bun. If possible, in order to respect your Kesh then a small turban should be tied. Keski is not a kakkar (one of the five K's)."

does any one know why we need to wear two turbans.

I think the reason of two keske (keski = turban) is cauz every sikh (singh/singhnee) supposed to cover their hair all time, so when they come back home they take their big (outer) keski off and then they relax with small keske underneath of their main turban/keskey B)

Pyare jio, the reason has already been mentioned, that one is your dastaar, and the other is a keski which always covers your hair whether or not you wear a dastaar, . i.e at home, or while sleeping.

Some like myself have a third keski around our kesh, protecting them before a bun is tied. This is all up to the individual.

It is essential to wear a keski, otherwise, when you take your dastaar off, your kesh are not covered at all. This is against many instructions, which clearly state, your kesh should be covered, when eating, sleeping, doing chores.

Most jathebandian insist on having a keski under the dastaar. The quote from taksaal is one example of this, eventhough the actyal maryada of taksaal does not mention the keski not being a kakaar line. This seems to be added later in translation by youth.

This raises the question when so many jathebandies state clearly in their maryadas that a keski should be worn, and hair should not by allowed to be open or plaited. Then why when they give Amrit, do they not implement this, and just go for numbers?

The ones who have keski as a kakaar, at least it is implemented. Why not the others?

I only wear one dastar however I see the complete logic of having another keski under you dastar.

A GurSikh once told me that it is essential for a Sikh to tie their jura above the dasam duar (not forward towards the forehead or towards the back of the head), inorder to get full Ras of GurBani. The lowest form of energy is in your organs and when doing bhakti that sensation rises through your spine into your brain and onto the dasam duar (which I think is at the top of one head ). The Kesh adds more Ras to the sensation as the energy travels through to the tips of the Kesh and is then released into the atomosphere. I suppose the Keski futher protects the Dasam Duar.

I might have missed something out, if so I'm sure the more learned GurSikhs would correct me.

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
