Divison In Sikhi

I have noticed a Division in UK society within Sikhs AKA

Indian (mostly Punjabi) Sikhs Vs Pakistani, Afghan, Iranian Sikhs and even Sikhs from South India (Hindi speaking). Why?

Punjabi Vs White Sikhs aswell

I ask the non Punjabi lot why and they say they dont feel welcome by Punjabi Sikhs; they argue that Punjabi sikhs feel threatened by the presence to do seva or something and they dont wanna lose the statis Quo (sp?). And when I hang in Punjabi Sikh groups I realise that they do tend to take the mickey outta other Sikhs....even in this group y'all take mickey out of Hindi speaking Sikhs.

I have noticed a new division when it comes to Gurdwarey aswell. Why?

ok i think this works both ways, but punjabi sikhs get more highlighted becos punjabs like the 'main land' wher alots happened.

but i find that with dehli sikhs............or i should really say a few dehli sikhs i met.

i dont see them as dehli sikhs , i just see them as sikhs, but they are always going on about how bad sikhi is in punjab and how good it is in dehli. and how sikhs from dehli are doing more parchar. whether this is true or not that isnt how we should go on. they genuinly dislike sikhs from punjab , i duno if its cos theyv had a bad experience but i think they go into a massssssivvvee defensive mode if you say anything about dehli. i tried saying that theres things going on all over the world but they just went crazy.

but i think people take time to change its just lack of knowledge and bad habits

my parents are from punjab but i get labelled as a punjabi sikh cos we speak punjabi, but wen we see a sikh , we shouldnt jump to label them into a catogary.

There are situations when I think we are a long way away from ekta. If it's not castes then it's jathas. If it's not jathas then it is geographical origin. I have heard derogatory statements from our own UK Singhs like "Afghani Sikh Kutti Kaum Ya!" or "Never trust a tarkaan even if he claims to be amritdhari!". I will never understand how we can ever profess to be a Khalsa brotherhood, if we entertain comments/attitudes like that.

We desperately need a panthic tv channel for right kind of parchar of sikhi which can act as a common platform for sikhs to air thier views across the globe and can be used to strengthen khalsa brotherhood.

This way sikhs from various communities or countries can be united through media or can have common view otherwise majority of the community will be divided, confused and goal-less for many decades to come.

I'm with you Khalsa!

Why is nobody else who claims to be sikh worried about this?? Hundreds of 'sikhs' are in a postion to fund such a scheme, but do they? no saddnes me.

I'd be happy to go around collecting funds but which banadar 'Sikh' would contribute? not the fat aunties and uncles who all eat Langar and burp!

Its not differences in Sikhi but its more to do with cultural differences. But Guru Ji says all should be treated as one. You get good people and bad people in all cultural backgrounds.

True they are cultural differences ....but all differences can be eliminated by a strong relation that we have...the relation of common faith that's why i emphasised on panthic tv channel which would help impart sikhi message and strengthen the bond of brotherhood among sikhs and if not whole world at least sikhs can discover what their religion is all about and how should their dealings should be with the humans (sikhs or non sikhs)

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
