You’re not a bad person or a failure in life. Most people start off like this including I.

Here are a few points to help you get up:

  • Keep your alarm clock far away from you
  • Keep several alarm clocks set at different times
  • Before you go to sleep jap naam
  • Before you go to sleep do ardaas
  • You can still do your paath if you don’t get up for amritvela
  • During the day you can jap naam or/and read bani
  • Don’t waste your time during the day e.g. watch tv, play games etc
  • Keep away from maya; things that take your mind away from God
  • Don’t sleep too much before amritvela. Maximum 4 hours.
  • Don’t go to sleep later than 10.
  • Even while sleeping Jap naam.

If you take these steps you will defiantly get up for amritvela. Never Give up.

6 hours sleep is fine but before someone gets up for amritvela they should not sleep too much. If someone needs 6 hours sleep it is usually to do with the amount of worldly activities taken part during the day which makes someone feel tired. So it depends on everyone’s individual lifestyle of how much sleep they need but 8-10 hours sleep is too much. This is because when someone sleeps long they instead always feel tired, drowsy, and low on energy and thus try to compensate by sleeping even longer. This reduces someone’s quality of sleep. So it’s not the quantity of sleep but the quality of their sleep.

I don't feel it's right for you, Gupt Singhi, to say that if someone sleeps for more than 6 hours, then they are doing "worldy activities". Besides, sometimes you just can't help doing "worldly activities" if you want to survive on this earth, i.e. like working long hours at a job to support yourself.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but who are you to say it should not be done and also say that 8 hours of sleep is too much without knowing an individual's condition? Thanks!

I never said I was against worldly activities because I know it involves work. I think you should read my previous reply again as I said it depends on your daily routine of how much sleep you need. Ask any sleep expert, they will all say 8-10 hours is too much. Many famous people such as Margaret Thatcher only needed four hours sleep and I think she did a lot more work than you do. If you want to drain out your naam, then keep up your 8 hours sleep. :TH: If someone gets up for amritvela then I don't think they will be able to have 8 hours sleep then. nonono.gif

I beg to differ! LOL.gif :TH:

This message wasn't for YOU it was for someone WHO WANTED TO GET UP FOR AMRITVELA. Gurbani says to sleep little as it is only Maya.

Sorry for using a manmukh for an example.

Baba Nand Singh Ji said that a Sant only needs 2 hours of sleep and an average person only needs 4 hours of sleep.
