waheguru jee ka khalsa! waheguru jee kee fateh!!

may of 2003, i started to wear bana all the time...to school, work, shopping EVERYWHERE...and then after about a month i started to realise that i was getting a lot of hunkaar out of it. I was wearing bana for WEARING bana, because it was such a huge thing to do for anyone. I would walk into class and i would think to myself "wow i'm wearing bana, way to go sandeep kaur!"

so after a while i just stopped wearing bana because i wasn't getting anything out of it but hunkaar. But, not too long ago i started wearing bana again. And this time i didn't start wearing it for WEARING bana, i wore it because i didn't feel like putting on jeans and shirts, not even sweatpants...i just wanted to be comfortable and wearing bana was the most comfortable thing to me. Wearing bana isn't only comfortable but simple...it keeps me humbled.

Me and a Singh were talking not too long ago, and he was explaining how he thinks that he could never wear bana because he's not worth it. Is wearing bana really something you need to be worth wearing?? I have never seen it like that and it seems like ppl make wearing bana such a huge thing. If wearing bana was about being worth it because you are representing your Guru...then what does wearing a dastaar do or wearing your kakkars do...that too is your bana. And does wearing pants somehow make you feel like u are less of a sikh?? I've always seen it as you trying to fit into society always trying to look your best.

so what's the big deal with wearing bana?? aren't we already representing the Guru when we wear our kakkars...isn't bana just a

bout being comfortable...being thar bar thiyaar...being simple??

just something that has been on my mind, thought i would share it with the sangath (hope it's not controversial ;) )

bhul chuck maaf karnaa

one good reason for bana ( chola) is that pants dont restrict u, aka, a fight. Another reason it is also a part of an identity, even though our main identity, and most important, is panj kakkars. ANother is , for some people, in bana there state of mind is different, they might think twice before doing paap. Another reason is that its one of the most simple clothes their is. Just some of my ideas why bana is important. Oh and i forgot, to prserve the bana that singhs and guru je used to wear. So we never change with the times, but the time changes with us. Just some ideas of a moorkh.

good topic ^_^ .. personally i think there's not much difference between wearing bana and western clothes .. it's all on personality.. if one is comfortable in bana, then go for bana.. if other style, then go for other style.. But all type should be decent civilized manner.. not like rap style baggy pants showing full boxers .. Yuck..

I thinks it is best to wear Bana as much as possible. We are Guru Gobind Singh Ji's sons and daughters, and Guru Ji is so great, and just like how people see their 'role models' on TV and try to be like them, and dress like them...well Guru Ji is more than a role model...he is our Father, our life. We should have a desire to be like HIM.

I was talking with a very spiritual Sikh recently and was told that Guru Ji gets really happy when we wear Bana, and the more we get 'decked out' with Shastars, Chakars, Khandas, nice Dastar etc..etc..the more Guru Ji gets happy. Don't think of it as dressing up for people to see you and say 'whoa, look at him/her"...but rather think of it as getting dressed up for Guru Gobind Singh Ji, and you want to look your best for Him.

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
