There comes a time for words, words only go so far....

as a community in the past we have done so much to try and live peacefully with everyone else in India...

isnt it TARA SINGH who said 'WE WANT TO LIVE HAND IN HAND WITH OUR HINDU BROTHERS' when asked by the BRITISH if the SIKHS want khalistan at the time of indias independance...

WASNT it sant jarnail singh ji bhindrwale who siad

'One who takes amrit, and helps others take it; who reads gurbani, and teaches other to do the same; who gives up intoxications and helps others do likewise; WHO URGES PEOPLE TO GET TOGETHER AND WORK IN COOPERATION; WHO PREACHES HINDU SIKH UNITY AND ASKS FOR PEACEFUL COEXISTANCE who says 'If you are a muslim, be a devout muslim, if you are a sikh be a devout sikh, respect ur ISHT, unite under the safron nashan sahib, stoutly support the panth, and be attached to satguru's throne and gurus darbar, PEOPLE who preach this are now being called EXTREMIST by this government and by the MAHASHA press. In particular i have been given a big title, the 'leader of the extremist'. I AM A EXTREMIST, but of the type which has the CHARACTERISTICS I HAVE DESCRIBED TO YOU'

There are many other examples... but if the oppressors keep takin advantage of our people, what choice does a sikh have ?

When India gained independance were they not promised to be able to run the day to day operations on punjab and have control over their own resources such as water and electricity.... WHY WERE THESE PROMISES BROKEN???? why hasnt negotiations and peaceful protests not worked...

When ever the sikhs peacefully protested these broken promises or the inju

stices against them such as police brutality,, why were innocent and non violent demonstrators gunned down ????

Talk is talk, but NOW how can sikhs be expected to talk and negotiate with the same government and country (HINDIA) that went into the heart and soul of the sikhs HARMANDAR SAHIB and killed tens of thousands of our brothers , sisters, sons, daughters, mothers and fathers.

SANT JARNAIL SINGH JI BHINDRWALE said it best when he said something to the words of

im just paraphrasing so forgive me if its not the exact words...

' Its up to the gov't to give sikhs what was promised to them, we have no problem living united in INDIA, but they day DARBAR sahib is attacked , the day the gov't attacks our heart and soul, the sikhs can't stay with india anymore, they must have their khalistan'

so now in response to some of the posts in this thread, we can't let our youth forget the past, we are lost we are nothing IF WE FORGET OUR RICH HISTORY and what attrocities have happened to innocent sikhs. We must raise our children with the control and compassion our guru's preached and that sewa and simran nurtures... but we must also give them the strength to FIGHT FOR THEIR RIGHTS, to do THE RIGHT THING, TO NOT FEAR DEATH, TO GO AGAINST OPPROSSESORS and FIGHT FOR HUMANITY... doing paath, sewa, adn simran will give the youth the power to control their aggression and only fight for whats right...

SURE THE GOV't has bombs planes, and all the latest weaponry, BUT EXTREME ODDS HAVE BEEN OVERCOME IN THE PAST.... and what would u rather do.. LIVE OPPRESSED , UNDER SOMEONE ELSE??? or go down fighting for whats right?

bhul chuk maaf

Waheguroo Jee Ka Khalsa!

Waheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!!

No doubut we should give sikhi sanskars to our kids but if we talk abt this pic where kids are dressed up in chola and daastar with kirpans during gurpurab nagar kirtan (procession) in Amritsar, India. The youngsters, kids need to be nurtured in a proper and organize way, merely occasional participation like in nagar kirtan will not be sufficient for meeting the objectives.

I know its not the topic but sadh sangat jee pls. give your time on the following :-

- What is logic behind Procession ??

- Ideally it should be for bringing awareness among the community, remember the Guru Sahib and its teachings but we need to check whether it is meeting its goal or not ?

Some of the highlights of the Nagar Kirtans in India:

- There is no unity in taking out these processions and not even date wise. Every area whether it is of 15 streets only wanna to have its own nagar kirtan to represent and show their own area identity. Taking out nagar kirtan is quite expensive affair so millions of Rupees can be saved if we concentrate on one or few nagar kirtans on a Gurupurab instead of taking out 100s of nagar kirtans so that money can be used for better causes like education, vocational training programes, health programmes for our community.

- Generaly in the way where nagar kirtan will proceed almost every street people play loudly different shabad kirtan and some of them play kacchi bani too which results no body can concentrate which shabad is going on in Shabad Kirtan Jathas.

Some of the shabadi jathas use lot of kachi bani so there is no control that way.

- Hu

ndreds of langar stalls of various eatables and some of them are even cooked by non sikh & professional cooks. These eatbles are distributed by males and females with uncoverd heads. I am very sure that if we colect the money from these stalls of every nagar kirtan we can provide food for quite a huge number of poor people daily. Some people also concentrate on hoarding various eatbles for coming days.

- For some people these nagar kirtans are like Fairs where they can come, enjoy various dishes and show off their clothes, gold and mobikes. Some of Sikh youngesters drives their mobike in weird n dangerious fashin to show off how perfect they are in driving.

- Other communities and especially people although they enjoy various eatables but many of those who have to divert their routes due to nagar kirtans also criticize it.

Nagar Kirtans are important and they should be organized but in much more proper and organized way. But no one cares and listen or take care of these issues esp. our Political and Managment Committee members in India.
