daas is a mahaa moorakh but even with my foundationless useless brain

i was able to comprehend the profound message Guruji bestowed on our heads in the dark age of this Kaljug - so i would dearly like to share it with my older brothers and sisters - so that you either correct my misinterpretation or shed some more knowledge from the limitless veechaar that is Sree Guroo Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj!

sorat(h) mehalaa 5 ghar 2 asattapadheeaa

Sorat'h, Fifth Mehla, Second House, Ashtpadeeaa:

ik oa(n)kaar sathigur prasaadh ||

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

paat(h) parriou ar baedh beechaariou nival bhua(n)gam saadhhae ||

They read scriptures, and contemplate the Vedas; they practice the inner cleansing techniques of Yoga, and control of the breath.

pa(n)ch janaa sio sa(n)g n shhuttakiou adhhik aha(n)budhh baadhhae ||1||

But they cannot escape from the company of the five passions; they are increasingly bound to egotism. ||1||

piaarae ein bidhh milan n jaaee mai keeeae karam anaekaa ||

O Beloved, this is not the way to meet the Lord; I have performed these rituals so many times.

haar pariou suaamee kai dhuaarai dheejai budhh bibaekaa || rehaao ||

I have collapsed, exhausted, at the Door of my Lord Master; I pray that He may grant me a discerning intellect. ||Pause||

mon bhaeiou karapaathee rehiou nagan firiou ban maahee ||

One may remain silent and use his hands as begging bowls, and wander naked in the forest.

thatt theerathh sabh dhharathee bhramiou dhubidhhaa shhuttakai naahee ||2||

He may make pilgrimages to river banks and sacred shrines all over the world, but his sense of duality will not leave him. ||2||

man kaamanaa theerathh jaae basiou sir karavath dhharaaeae ||

His mind's desires may lead him to go and dwell at sacred places of pilgrimage, and offer his head to be sawn off;

man kee mail n outharai eih bidhh jae lakh jathan karaaeae ||3||

but this will not cause the filth of his mind to depart, even though he may make thousands of efforts. ||3||

kanik kaaminee haivar gaivar bahu bidhh dhaan dhaathaaraa ||

He may give gifts of all sorts - gold, women, horses and elephants.

a(n)n basathr bhoom bahu arapae neh mileeai har dhuaaraa ||4||

He may make offerings of corn, clothes and land in abundance, but this will not lead him to the Lord's Door. ||4||

poojaa arachaa ba(n)dhan dda(n)ddouth khatt karamaa rath rehathaa ||

He may remain devoted to worship and adoration, bowing his forehead to the floor, practicing the six religious rituals.

ho ho karath ba(n)dhhan mehi pariaa neh mileeai eih jugathaa ||5||

He indulges in egotism and pride, and falls into entanglements, but he does not meet the Lord by these devices. ||5||

jog sidhh aasan chouraaseeh eae bhee kar kar rehiaa ||

He practices the eighty-four postures of Yoga, and acquires the supernatural powers of the Siddhas, but he gets tired of practicing these.

vaddee aarajaa fir fir janamai har sio sa(n)g n gehiaa ||6||

He lives a long life, but is reincarnated again and again; he has not met with the Lord. ||6||

raaj leelaa raajan kee rachanaa kariaa hukam afaaraa ||

He may enjoy princely pleasures, and regal pomp and ceremony, and issue unchallenged commands.

saej sohanee cha(n)dhan choaa narak ghor kaa dhuaaraa ||7||

He may lie on beautiful beds, perfumed with sandalwood oil, but this will led him only to the gates of the most horrible hell. ||7||

har keerath saadhhasa(n)gath hai sir karaman kai karamaa ||

Singing the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, is the highest of all actions.

kahu naanak this bhaeiou paraapath jis purab likhae kaa lehanaa ||8||

Says Nanak, he alone obtains it, who is pre-destined to receive it. ||8||

thaero saevak eih ra(n)g maathaa ||

Your slave is intoxicated with this Love of Yours.

bhaeiou kirapaal dheen dhukh bha(n)jan har har keerathan eihu man raathaa || rehaao dhoojaa ||1||3||

The Destroyer of the pains of the poor has become merciful to me, and this mind is imbued with the Praises of the Lord, Har, Har. ||Second Pause||1||3||

Read the verses that Guruji is singing with us - how many of these things we see within so many levels of the Guru Khalsa Panth!

Reading Gurbani and listening to Gurbani has become a ritual, and a lot of us have lost the pyaar and sharda that brings it into our hearts, that brings it into our souls and gives us that feeling of anand!

It is no wonder that we see people in high places or in positions of representation dishonouring themselves and the panth with their actions! whether thats a local level with the granthi at the gurduaara, or at an international level with some of the corrupt leaders we see in the papers so much!

How much we think doing this or that ritual or secluding ourselves from society will help us fight the five evils - but in reality it is only through the hukam of Akaal Purakh, and through his Khalsa Maryada that we can abstain from those internal problems.

How many people have chhakked the Beautiful Amrit of the Khanda, bestowed by Guroo Gobind Singh Sahib jio, and had those moments of extreme pyaar for our Kalgiawale, but then without the sharda being there saas giraas, each and every moment, have remained plagued with the problems that we should be facing and fighting off in this Kaljug!

How many times in the past have various people, from Maharajas way back when to politicians & professors today, given vast sums of money and land for GuruGhars, even to the level of the sangat just offering food when doing matha taek, for the seva of Guru ka Langar - has it ever helped them by itself gain emancipaton from the baseness that we suffer?

How many times have we practiced all the practices we should, done soo much paath, gained dso much giaan, but then when it came down to it, ended up full of ego and arguing over our pride with our fellow man?

This leaders of the Guru Khalsa Panth who should be keeping Sarbat Da Bhalla, mantaining the Panth in a state of tyaar bar tyaar so we can be forever in nihaal nihaal nihaal! With all fo their beautiful offices and cars, titles and authority, are they doing a seva of Sarbat Da Bhalla?

HOW MUCH of our actions are actually Har Keertan? are we being Saadh Sangat for the rest of humanity?

please understand that i am a nothing - i write this because i feel i am guilty of all of these things

however i feel that Guruji is telling us with his beautiful bani that if we are not ALL of us, including me, truly Gursikh ang sang Sree Vahiguroo, providing the light in this terrible time, showing humanity that we are here to serve them, we will slowly be slipping into ritualism.

i am sure i am not the only person to find it hard -

BUT we can truly change the world if we let go of or dubdha and follow our Guru wholeheartedly to Sachkhand
