erm wa styl Dastaar do u tie???

becoz iss understable for it 2 be loose if its folded, but if your tieing a Dhumalla den it shud stay!!!!

its just round, gol dastaar

Also, what kind of kapra are you using? it's harder to start out with softer material if your hand isn't used to tying yet.

dunno it is a soft material, called rubia or something??

also, tie a small cloth or a small keski underneath, cloth tends to slip off from bare hair

yeah i do tie a keski but tht always moves anyway coz my hair is slippery (not from oil lol)

u may be tieing your joora too far back, tie slightly forward, have it exactly on ur dasam duar, also try tieing a boonga underneath.

i always do the joora at the front of my head, havent tried a boonga coz im scared its gonna rip my kesh out n im gonna go bald from the front lol i bin told it hurts like crazyyyy aswell

msot of the time it depends on how well u have tied your keski , because then your dastaar that is going over the keski is going to folow the shape of the keski, so... if your keski is mashed or out of shape most of the time so will be your dastaar over your keski.

yeah my keski is usually really dodgy, its not big enough and i cant get another one

the problem is prob somethng to do with my keski right? i always tie it majorly tight but it goes really loose again after abt 5 mins. and wont stay put, gradually gets higher n higher.

the edge is never even aswell, like how do you get the first larh to be symmetrical, i always look like ive got one eyebrow raised when its higher on one side n goes really low on the other,.

how long did it take everyone here to tie a dastaar properly without help?? (so its accetable n neat enough to wear in public)

fatehjee,

try tying your keskhi so it stays secure on your head, not tight though.

Get the end of the keskhi material and you could maybe tie a knot at the back to keep that bit secure and then carry on tying ur keskhi like a normal keskhi , that will help keep it secure if your hair is too slippery(basically you will have no larr at the back from keskhi), but it can leave a bit of a bump where you tied that knot at the back, shouldn't be too much.....does it make sense?

1. Rubia is nice kapra...slightly thicker than mal mal, it's better to use if you're still practicing.

2. If you tie your bunga in such a way, you won't go bald. Trust me  It's only when you tie it extremely tight that it hurts and pulls out your hair. There's a middleground between loose and unbearably tight - once you find that, a bunga's not so bad :|

Yeah, it's your keski. Your dastar won't stay unless your keski is solid. The easiest thing to do is bring your kes forward, wrap it into your keski, and then tie it. This will keep it on your head for longer hahaha....if you need to get longer kapra...depending on how long your kes is. If you need kapra and can't get any, let me know nnd i'll mail you some  .

The reason your larh isnt symmetrical is because you're using your dominant hand to tie it, so it's always, unless you're very careful, going to be slightly uneven. Because I'm left handed, my bunga always tilts slightly to one side (leaning tower of Tanu! hahahah!!)....when you're doing your first larh just pay attention to it and try to make it straight. But it doesn't really matter - the most important thing is that it stays on!!!

Umm it takes me about 7 minutes, but my dastar is never neat!

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
