I was just listening to some Katha and katha vachak raised a very interesting question. He ran outta time and so didin't asnwer the question :sady:

It went something like this.

Just by saying light light light, there can never be light. Just by saying darkness darkness darkness, there can never be darkness. Just by saying sugar sugar sugar our mouth wont taste it. Then howcome Guru Sahib says that by saying Waheguru Waheguru Waheguru Waheguru Waheguru we will realize/attain/get... waheguru

Please do veechar.

This is my take from a katha by bhai pinderpal ji. He was answering question as to why we need to read bani without understanding a single word. He gave two analogies:

1. When a doctor prepares medicine he knows what chemicals will work together to fight disease. The sick person by no means need to know its contents for medicine to work. It will work irrespective someone has in depth knowledge of chemicals or not. similarly bani/gurmantar will work to cleanse our souls of the disease of 5 evils.

2. Similarly we don't have to understand how food is digested in our body so that it can provide us nourishment. We simply have to eat and consume it. Just like food for body, bani is food for our soul and we just need to nourish it.

Just like food and medicine take time to effect out body, similarly reading bani and chanting on HIS name will cleanse our soul and finally our inner eyes can open to see The One.

WOW you have the same logo as Papi. I used to be confused about this aswell...until you actually do sit and say waheguru. It changes your inside...I cannot explain how or why but it works.

That is Papi. He changed his screen name.

Naam is not the same as "name". Saying water water won't get you water but repeating naam will get you Vaahiguru. Mool Mantar is the attributes of Vahiguru. After Ik Oankaar and Sat, we have Naam. Naam is an attribute of Vahiguru. Shabad and naad are linked with naam. When we jap naam we are creating a connection with the shabad and naad and it is this dhun of naam by which we can know Vahiguru and we can have darshan within ourselves. Japping naam is creating a connection with Shabad and Shabad is Guru and Guru is Vahiguru.

Can't really write too clearly about such deep spiritual things but I hope I've helped a little.

In Akaal Ustat Guru Gobind Singh Ji says,

jaap ke keeye te jo pai payut ajaap dev. pudna sadeev tuhi tuhi ucharat hai.

If it were possible to realise through jaap alone, then the Pudna bird that utters 'tuhi tuhi' (would be realised).

Guru Ji says again and again, do jap naam. Vaheguru is gurmantar. What is naam?

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
