but u need to go down to the simple stuff for a bit......dont worry about monkeys have periods.........the panj kakkars are not things to be taken on and off like clothes are.....they are not just symbolic......

plese do a bit of research, talk to some gursikhs, try to find a really spiritually developed gursikh and chat to him more. cuz its worrying when u have todays youth thinking, its ok to take off your kachereh, cuz they are just symbols and u cant see them anyway

btw im not in a position to say anything about this topic.....hahaha.......why dont you go and ask the panj pyare for their advice before u take amrit?

u know it's pretty easy to say talk to your punjh piyaaray, but it's not really that easy. Think about it, a girl, going up to five punjh (who are usually male) and asking THEM what to do when you have your period. I'm not sure if knowing what to do in the week of menustration is a MUST for the punjh piyaaray to know. :)

All the girsl I know, and OLDER GURSIKH WOMEN (i don't like that fact that people believe that younger women are any less educated about these things) wear an underwear to keep everything is place and a kasharah on top. And it IS possible to do this WITHOUT taking off your kasharah. In the same manner you would put on your kasharah after taking a shower (one leg out, one leg in)same thing goes for underwear. You just kinda do it together...

There is also another thing, which is called a tampon...most younger gursikhs do not like using those for several different reasons. Those don't necessarily require you to wear an underwear, but even those girls i know who wear tampons wear underwear as well.

So yeah, it's not a matter of asking your punjh piyaaray (WE NEED MORE SINGHNEE'S IN AMRIT SANCHAR FOR THIS KIND OF THING!!!!) I don't think any woman would feel comfortable talking to five Singhs about it.

But, do not remove your kashara...your kakkars are apart of your body. They must stay with you at all times. If it was a matter of taking off your kashara (taking off a limb)...i'd

rather just remove my bottom half for that week or so. THERE IS NO COMPRIMISE...just gotta work around it, and really it's not uncomfortable or a hassle...it's all in your mind.

one leg in one leg out? come on! u make these things like rituals they dont actually mean much u just force the habit on urself. u dont need the symbols to remind u ur brain can do that. besides once it becomes a part of u it wont really remind u of anything because it'll become hard to notice its even there. instead of making the symbols remind u to be a good person maybe u can just make ur thinking habits change in ur mind

The problem I am facing is that you have to do take bath, kesh inshnaan, wear panj kakaar and clean clothes. Now it happened that my periods were during the time when the samagam took place. I didn't wanted to go there with with this thing in mind.

jassika, didnt you read what i wrote.

unless youve read all the rehatnamas, studied the history of the rehat, talked to brahmgyanis, gurmukhs and mahapurkhs on the issue, you are in absolutely no position to call the rehat maryada that has been and is followed by millions "like rituals".

plz, have a little bit of respect. let your ego give in just for one moment and give your guru the benefit of the doubt over your own mind.

FYI rehatnama bhai desa singh "never be seperated from your kachh or kirpan"

bhai daya singh rehatnama "it is said of a singh that whenever he takes one leg out of his kachh, he must always have the other leg in another kachh".

the kacch is also meant to reach just above the knee.

Well firstly, I am so uneducated and hypocritical - I do not follow maryada properly

I don't know the first thing about ghiaan or dhiaan or karma

But as far as rehit is concerned in any way .. how is anything practical?

I know this is very off topic for this thread

but people above were talking about how thigns are practical

I don't think it's about practicality ever in Sikhi

I think it's about love

I mean what is Sikhi without love and faith?

We need to learn a lot from the Gursikhs in our history...

How can you drink the water after washing the Guru's feet?

How can you clean the GUru's feet with your hair?

How can you sacrifice your mind by cutting it apart and putting it before the Guru?

How can you go into the battle field and not come out even if you are ripped apart ?

How can you work with your hands while doing simran?

How can you do simran 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year?

How can you see God in everybody?

How can you have no revenge, but always justice?

How could you have so much love for your Guru that whenever you call him he appears before you in the flesh?

How could you have so much love for the GUru that you manage the whole langar yourself and even get mentioned in the Guru GRanth Sahib?

How could you say that there are millions of other poor people like you - with the grace of the Sikhs your kingdom is established?

How could you get up

and allow your Guru to chop off your head with his sword?

How could you pray that your skin is used as the shoes of Gursikhs?

How could you have your scalp cut off but not your hair?

How could you have your body cut piece by piece and continue reciting Gurbani?

How could you be cut on a spinning wheel?

How could you be sawed in half?

How could you travel all around the world to preach Sikhi by foot?

If your father gave you money to invest, how could you spend it on setting up a langar for poor people?

If you had been held in a concentration camp and starved for many days, how could you tolerate your children being killed and their dead bodies being strung around your neck?

How could you sit in a boiling pot, then a hot stove, then have sand poured on your wounds?

How could you walk and fight oppressors while your head is cut off and in your palm?

How could you stay underwater for three days meeting with God?

How could you stop a falling rock with your hand?

How could a falling boulder melt into the shape of your body and not hurt you?

How could bitter nuts become sweet by the touch of your hand?

How could an ignorant deaf and mute man become a scholar of the Geeta by your touch?

How could countless sick people get cured by your touch?

How could you start orphanages and treatment camps open to thousands of people regardless of their religion or background?

How could you work endlessly to protect the environment and the rights of animals in your society?

How could you do one akhand paat every week, every year for several years of your life?

How could you defend the Harimandir Sahib against tanks, helicopters and highly trained commandos with just a group of Singhs?

How could you get tens of thousands of people to take amrit in the span of a few months?

How could you strap a bomb to your body and sacrifice your own life to bring justice to the corrupt chief minister of Punjab?

How could you sacrifice your own life to bring justice to the corrupt Prime Minister of India?

How could you spend years and years in Punjab jails being tortured?

How could they do those things for their Guru and still stay in Chardee Kalaa?

I could never. I can't imagine. I could never imagine. I have no courage. No love. No faith.

I take this history for granted every day. I'm over dramatic, unappreciative, irresponsible and fraudulent ... I could never do these things.

These are the Khalsa above - this is what real faith is.

We are the children of a inexplicably magnificent legacy.

This is pyaar, this is Sikhi. May Guru jee bless us with the dust of their feet.

it is not a ritual...

think about it for a moment. The kashara is a reminder to stay away from lust, the second you are away from your kashara..well i know for me, i just dont' feel right.

it's so easy to call things a ritual, but u know what...Guru Sahib Jee came to the earth to STOP the brahministic things...not to create more, and i have faith and i know many otheres have faith that whatever Guru Sahib Jee has said...has a good reason for it.

We can even say that taking amrit is just a ritual, i mean what's a couple of splashes going to do right?? i don't think so. We do not have the giyaan to understand these things, so until we do understand them we need to do them with shardha and prem. Don't doubt what your Guru has said. and please don't say that if you don't know why you are doing something then you shouldn't do it...it's a matter of having faith in your Guru. If you doubt your own Guru, then honestly what do u have??

Did anyone bothered to read kulpreet's post.. read it and then think about it for a moment

And jassika phaenjee.. there are stages where one can understand the true meanings of some stuff in our religion.. All you and me and others got to do is concentrate on naam/simran so that we can reach that stage level where everything from kacchera to Amrit will make sense and that's the only way we can understand em :)
