O rainbird, do not cry out. Do not let this mind of yours be so thirsty for a drop of water. Obey the Hukam, the Command of your Lord and Master,

You are the Merciful Cherisher of those who seek Your Sanctuary. I beg of You: please grant me Your gift, Lord.

ਜਾਚੜੀ ਸਾ ਸਾਰੁ ਜੋ ਜਾਚੰਦੀ ਹੇਕੜੋ ॥

Jācẖṛī sā sār jo jācẖanḏī hėkṛo.

The most excellent begging is begging for the One Lord.

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਪਿਆਸ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਕੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਤੁਸਿ ਮਿਲਾਵੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

Anṯar pi­ās har nām kī gur ṯus milāvai so­ė. ||1|| rahā­o.

Within me is the thirst for the Lord's Name; may the Guru, in His Pleasure, grant it to me. ||1||

ਹਰਿ ਦਰਸਨ ਕੰਉ ਮਨੁ ਲੋਚਦਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਿਆਸ ਮਨਾ ॥

Har ḏarsan kaʼn­u man locẖḏā Nānak pi­ās manā.

My mind yearns for the Blessed Vision of the Lord's Darshan. O Nanak, my mind is so thirsty!

Having obtained this human body, so very difficult to obtain, it is now being uselessly wasted.

Emotional attachment to Maya is such a treacherous wilderness, and yet, people are in love with it. ||1||

Inwardly and outwardly, God is always with them, and yet, they do not enshrine Love for Him.
