Wireless Router

It works really good, and after a chardi kala Gurmukh from this forum told me to reduce the MTU settings to 1400, it reduced the number of times I was getting disconnected from the Internet. My question is how do I, once and for all, end this irritating trouble of going offline. It is very irritating when you are listening to some amazing Katha and it kicks you offline, and comes back on after a few seconds making you miss something. I was using the ethernet cable with my laptop for the past 5 and a half months and never had this problem. But now since I don't live alone and have flatmates, I need to use the router so that they can use it as well.

So, any suggestions?

ps: Not that it matters, my laptop is a Toshiba with Windows Vista Home Premium.

Fateh . . . . .

I used to get this problem. Things I did

1. Checked if the router was clashing with the frequency of other devices in the home. E.g Door chime, cordless phones, or any other devices that you may have at home.

2. The other thing that you need to do is.

Log on to your network router by ensuring that this is plugged in using the cable NOT WIRELESS.

In your router options you will have an option to upgrade the router software. Upgrade your routers

firmware software. That realy worked and fixed the problem for me.

Hope this helps.

^^^ I also have a Netgear router and was having similar problems last week. I got in contact with Netgear and they suggested to upgrade the firmware. The problem is now definitely fixed.

If you select your router under 'Goto Product Support Page:' and then just navigate to the downloads page, you should be given links to firmware updates. They have instructions on what you have to do to upgrade.

The latest firmware for my router was supposedly for North America only, but it has worked despite me being situated in the UK.
