Gurfatehji,

Did you try and reason it out with that person on duty? Just tell him that a small kirpan can bring no one to harm! They may know all of this but at times pretend ignorant.

Sigh... such is world *doh dhaari talwar*

Bhul chuk maaf karni ji!

i'm sorry to sound cynical but if the kirpans that amritdharis wear can't hurt anyone, then what's the point of it? i thought the kirpan was to protect other's and one's honor. walking around with a mere symbol, isn't that the equivalent of a janeoo, the holy thread brahmins wear?

the kirpan is just like a pistol that policemen have on them, its for protection. i would hate to be in trouble and the police shows up with fake guns and can't help me.

i know i might tick people off with this post, but i'm honestly lost on these explanations given to media, because when non-sikhs ask about the 5 k's, it's seems kind of insulting to describe the kirpan, which guru sahib gave his sikhs, like some butter knife that can't hurt a fly.

these are the same sikhs praised for their skill with the kirpan, how they wielded them in battle, with such grace and glory that even the enemy praised their martial spirit and prowess.

i don't know...i just feel that we are giving people a disrespectful definition of the kirpan. if a sikh can carry the shabad with him, which can pierce the mind, fer oh sipahi kaada, what kind of sipahi is he/she whose kirpan can't pierce the flesh?

if a person is wearing a dull kirpan just for show, then why not take it off and enter a courthouse? having a dull and harmless kirpan is just like not having one at all.

that's why back in the day no one messed with the sikhs, because along with a sharp mind, they had sharp kirpaans.

peace.

at the end of day, kirpan is register as article of faith not an weapon to defend oneself or others in charter of rights...and why is register as article of faith? good question, only explanation i can think is kirpan serves multi purposes for eg- ceremonial dagger (kirpan bheta to bhog and langar for maharaj and sangat).

Amongst the upstanding sheriffs and law enforcement members in North America, there are also many morons who carry deadly weapons with the authority and blessings to use them. There are huge lapses in recruiting, resulting in law enforcement members who have anger problems, are steroid monkeys, or otherwise have unsuitable temperaments to carry weapons or use force.

There are everyday instances where the line is crossed and the media reports. There are also everyday abuses which never get past the investigation, most of which are internal (aka coverups). Ask a few honest friends in these professions as to who their co-workers really are.

THESE PEOPLE ARE FAR MORE LIKELY AND FAR MORE OFTEN DO USE UNWARRANTED AND EXCESSIVE FORCE ON VISIBLE MINORITIES SUCH AS SIKHS.

So where is the ongoing debate about who is recruited for law enforcement and is permitted to carry a loaded gun? Where is the ongoing debate about sheriffs in courthouses and whether they are suitable and safe for their positions? Where is the ongoing debate about increased risk faced by minorities?

Of course safety is an economic consideration and if sheriffs are only paid x$/hour then the pool of candidates who are truly suitable is more limited. The steroid monkey with elevated testosterone is suitable because the taxpayer in Canada or the U.S. would rather contribute to his own next gadget lifestyle than compensate for the increased risk faced by minorities from the very people who should be protecting them.

Did I hear someone say the word "balance"!

Make it mandatory for law enforcement in the country to learn and live the values and practices of the Khalsa, all else will fall in place, including the demented mindset of the ignorant.

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
