anyone who has influence at any media - blogs, panthic newspapers, radio, petitoin starters, do something with the title along the lines of "Sikh Community Held To Ransom" and write about the artifJact being stolen. How would Christains like it if someone stole something of Jesus's from Jerusalem then tried to sell it back to them 150 years later?

lets just make sure singhs dont get in a bidding war with each other. we should put our behind whoever can satisfy us that the item will be well preserved in sangata can have darshan of it. not an SGPC job where it will go missing within the year and sold back to us again.

Rape us for 100 years then rub it in - theiving lil *****

Any lawyers, if this issue is raised properly and put into prespective im sure we could get mass support - only factor is the time factor.

Challo may maharaj do kirpa

so is there no legal way we cud stop this from being auctioned or at least delay it until we could get a clearer picture of how it came to be in this sitaution today?

Any lawyers on here?

This is NOT an AUCTION.....Lets call this what it really is.... a RANSOM.....

Most historical artefacts do not belong to the masses and never have been, but are owned by individuals or family estates. The Kartarpuri bir is a great example of this.

When the British took control of Punjab they did not always loot relics and items of importance. Quite often they were bought outright from individuals much in the way that land was bought and sold. Those items which were looted however, are often considered the rewards of war and successful invasion. By the very same notion, Sikhs came to be the holders of the Koh-i-Noor which today also rests with the British Crown.

There is always a deep regret when people sell or part with their heritage, but unfortunately these days it is a matter of everyday occurence. (How many people on this forum have considered selling or sold their ancestral farm land in the Punjab?) I doubt very much that there is a legal case to be argued here, although Germans and Poles were able to reclaim stolen items after the Second World War. Maybe someone who actually studied during their law degree could help us here (I mistakenly did not!)

Will be discussing this and related issues in tonight's 'Aaja fer' - no holds barred talk show - on Naujawani:Radio from 7pm-9pm (UK time) Chat to us live throughout via msn sikhradio@hotmail.com

Wahe Guru Ji Ka Khalsa Wahe Guru Ji ki Fateh

I have updated the earlier story at PHN with another artefact being sold at Southebys.

The link to the relics can also be seen there.

For the official press releases regarding the sale visit www.sridasamgranth.com

As our original story stated many original aretefacts related to Sikh history are within the possession of private collections and families related to various Sikh lineages.

It is on our interest to ensure that various Sikh related relics are available for all the Sikh sangat to view rather than being stuffed in somebodys cupboard or shed. We hope the body armour stays within the Uk so it can be properly available for Darshan.
