can anyone here define what should be done at a wedding and what shouldnt

i disagree with the mehndi stuff.. that brides put on..

also disagree with the show off stuff.. jewlry and what not..

you decide u wnna marry someone.. and u do an ardaas

set a date for marriage

engagement?

then keertan and akhand path bhog on the day of marriage

laavan at amrit vela

thats it rite?

no mehndi.. no parties etc no choora (red bangles brides wear for 40 days)

no washing with milk or w/e .. no flower garlands exchanged..

wat else?

another thing I find very disrespectful is when some ppl put on a chaddar for the bride and groom to sit. This shouldn't be done as it was and still is a hindu custom and has no place in Sikhi. It makes u sit higher than the sangat so watch out.

Choora has no place in Sikhi. We wear the choora (karra) when we marry Guru ji... to wear a different choora is disrespect to Guru Sahib and neeshani of gulaami.

I totally agree SoGGSJ. Half the stuff we do is rituals. I mean, the average "Sikh" wedding takes like a week (receptions and stuff), whereas the only statement for marriage in Sikhi is the 1 hour anand karaj ceremony. That's it. Anything above and beyond that is plain stupid. (and stuff like those yellow dots is waaay dumb)
